I have a carrot garden with 20 carrots in it, its been three months and just one has flowered, its three times taller than every other carrot I have and I planted then all at the same time.
Fantastic video. Thanks! I've never saved carrot seeds before but feel totally ready now. I just got my first crop of container carrots this year and will let some go to seed! :-)
I have quit a few heirloom variety of carrot seeds. i want to harvest some seeds next year because they are quit pricey for the seeds and don't get many seeds per pack. Do I have to plant the different varieties in different spots so they don't cross pollinate or is it ok to plant them all together?
how long will seeds last? also what happens if u don't clean off burrs at all? I ask b cause I noticed that some fell into garden...i only noticed since they were already little carrots growing.
I planted a bunch of carrots in 2014 and they never flowered. I learned that carrots get sweeter as we approach winter. I planted a bunch of carrots this year and let them stay in the ground longer and it is true, they are sweeter but they never went to seed. Are they biannual? I actually left a bunch of carrots that are currently covered in snow and the ground is frozen. So what do i need to do to actually get them to flower? I live in SLC UT zone 7.
+nathan carter I was wondering at what point do carrots go to seed? My carrots were in the ground for a long time and never went to seed. Do they flower like lettuce, radish etc...?
I am trying this for the first time this year bur from what I have been told they should spend one season or summer in the ground, after that they go dormant in cold weather. Next year they should come back but will be large and woody. At the end of this season they should go to seed. But I do not know if all carrots are the same.
I have never seen "carrots" have these "flowers" on the above ground portion of the carrot plant while it is still in the ground. Where are these "flowers" coming from? What are they called, REALLY?
+Stacey Fearnley I you see the top part of you carrots flower I think they are trying to go to seed, you might not have the type of pollinator you need to pollinate carrot plants. This seems unlikely butt it could be the problem.
Finally somebody who actually knows what they're talking about harvesting carrot seed! Detailed information thank you!
Thank you !! I learned so much! Please keep making educational gardening videos
The flowers also have a amazing floral scent! I like to let them flower by my back door. :)
Can you put them in water to finish? I'd love to get something else into that pot.
Thank you! I'm looking at my first carrot seed harvest this video was very detailed and exactly what I was looking for !

After saving the seeds can we eat the carrots , that were in the grown for two years?
Great video

What would happen if you just stored the seeds with the burrs? Would they spoil before they could be replanted?
If I want to plant a carrot for seeds so I don't have to buy seeds each year would I just need to plant a few store bought organic carrots.
Thank you for the instruction.
Do you just plant carrots early in your house and then they develop flowers? I plant carrots yearly but have never seen a carrot flower in my life.
I believe the second year is when they start to flower and go to seed, I have some still growing and only one has a crown coming up so far.
Simply loved it! Thanks fo this video!
Do Carrots have perfect flowers? Do I need more then one carrot go to seed to cross pollinate?
