    This is Incredible. I been binge watching all your videos the past two days. I'm 29yr w a fiance and 12yr old daughter. I can't wait till she's 18 and I can travel. Philippines is definitely the place to be. Thanks to you. I think my family and yours would get along like family. Much blessing my friend.

      Don't wait. My husband and I took our 12 year old on a 13 months around the world trip a few years ago. We home schooled 6th grade. We backpacked and travelled cheaply. Spent about the same money as any other year but had no income of course. We are now poorer (in money) but so much richer in everything else.

    It is soo cool just to set back at my desk, grab a beer and watch your videos it is so interesting seeing all the things you do and places you go. It gives us a chance if nothing else just to get out of our own environment and escape for a while! I teach at a college and am technically retired but just helping out in the transition of them filling my position at the college, i so want to come their and live and travel, was unsure where i wanted to move but your making it less of a hard decision the more i watch your videos. I originally grew up in the country and then later Orange County LA and even was a pro fighter after ii got out of the service for a while, now just live in small town in Iowa and teach. I am very use to diverse places with high crime rate living in orange country it has been a real treat even living in Chicago for a 4 year period while going to college and living in south Chicago which is the worse part. From what i have read and seen in videos for the most part it is pretty safe their of course being aware and picking and choosing your places to visit is wise of course lol! So i will continue to watch your videos until i am done here then vacation and then hopefully move their, like i said in another post the wife is scared to fly so it will be a drunkin flight for her lol!!

    How do you find these cool places to stay? I was in and out of Subic for around 8 years while in the Navy, but not many of us traveled the country. The little journey you are on is really cool... Do you have this entire trip planned out or are you just moving around sort of, when you get there, you get there... Very Cool...

    • @OverstayRoad
      @OverstayRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I do very little planning. If I plan too much, it takes the adventure out of it. Plus, I noticed that if I have a well-scripted plan, I'm in a hurry. It's as if I'm suddenly on a timeline or a mission back at a regular job. When you get in a hurry traveling, that's when you get ripped off, scammed, hustled, etc. When you're on a slow roll, you're in charge. If someone tries to charge me too much for a tricycle ride, I walk away and go drink a beer. At some point, the price will come down to something reasonable.
      Many of the places I've been started as a conversation with someone in a bar. The next day I'm on a bus or a plane to go see the place for myself. I pretty much go with the wind.
      I'm a bargain hunter, so I usually never stay at the expensive resorts. They bore me, anyway. I get on agoda.com and within 10 minutes I've got a room. Or, I just roll to the destination, find the nearest bar stool, and ask the waitress where's a cool place to stay.
      The real key to my adventure travel that I travel LIGHT. When I'm in adventure mode, I've got an Arc'teryx Brize 32 Backpack and my Indiana Gear Bag satchel. With that setup, I'm totally mobile and able to change plans at a moment's notice. That's near impossible to do if you're rolling with two big suitcases. The system owns you if you have to have assistance with luggage. In Southeast Asia, as long as you can get on a motorbike with all of your gear on your person, you're golden.
      Most of the guys who travel here do the same thing. They go to Manila, Angeles City, Subic Bay, or Boracay and then leave. Most only have a couple of weeks vacation so I understand why they do it. I have the luxury of time and can get off the beaten path.
      Thanks for the comments, my friend.

    Have you ever asked any of the local fishermen if they would take you out for a day?

    • @OverstayRoad
      @OverstayRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, I've been fishing several times down in Cebu. My friend has a small fishing boat that usually just he and his younger brother go out on. There's room for one more in the middle so that's where I sit. If you go out with them, you will understand the hardships of most of the fishermen here. After buying fuel, prepping the nets, fishing, and recovery, we had about 5 hours invested in the trip. Our net profit for the day was less than 50 pesos ($1 U.S. dollar). Once we got back, the younger brother had to get to school. The kid does that routine every day. Fish from 2:00 a.m. to around 7:00 a.m. and then rush off to class.
      I only wish I could take them to Miami and fish for Mahi Mahi / Dolphin. I'd love to see the look on their faces when we hit a school and all the lines start zinging.

I told her the ATM ate my card how am I supposed to call the 800 number. She said, oh, that's right. There's idiots everywhere my friend. The resolution to this cluster foxtrot is a 100K word essay.

    I had a very different experience of Bamboo House when I stayed there a few years ago. Too far from Sabang, most of the advertised amenities were closed or unavailable, food was crap and Dennis was a Smartass Little Jerk. Definitely could NOT recommend from my experience there. Booked & Paid 4 days, left after 1.

    It seemed that you were the only customer at the Bamboo House for most of your stay. The place is very nice but the route going there is kind of scary...looks like it's too far from civilization.

    • @OverstayRoad
      @OverstayRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The route there (up the hill) is kind of scary at night until you get used to it. So, I'll have to agree with you on that point. It is a bit far from Sabang Beach, but it's close to White Beach.
      Personally, I intentionally search for places off the beaten path and far from civilization. That's where the adventure lies. Sure, it's not exactly convenient having to hike or ride up that hill at night, but that's what makes the place unique. Once you get to the Bamboo House, the journey was definitely worth it. Nicest folks you'll every meet and a beautiful property.
      Locations off the beaten path are not for everyone, and I'm certainly glad for that. Gives me more room to stretch out and relax and I don't have to wait in line for a hammock. Ha!

    You have to think of the larger audience you want. You will peak at 10,000 with King Marcos or you can be like the guy from 20 Seconds in Thailand channel and have 45,000. Which will make more money? My Self Reliance has over 500,000 subscribers, check out his style. Do you want to feed your ego or your bank?

    • @OverstayRoad
      @OverstayRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I’m not motivated by money, my friend. Sure, I have to eat and pay rent like anyone else. But the money, the million dollars per month is a game to me. If I wanted to make money I would have never left the USA and the big paychecks from the defense industry. I’m doing my own thing. I don’t give a shit about anyone else’s channel and I don’t have the time to watch their content anyway. I wish them luck but don’t care about their style or anyone else’s. Peak at 10K? Ha. I think not. I’m just getting started, my friend. I’m going Platinum and I’ll do it my way....As long as I got cold beer, two bitches, and a pot to piss in, that’s rich enough for me.
