I wore mine for the first time on Sunday. I fell in some deep sand and my foot was pinned under the exhaust pipe. The boot kept the pipe from digging into my foot. It took a minute for my buddy to get the bike off of me and I could smell the leather burning. My foot was fine and the heat never reached my skin. Even after being burned a little they are in great shape.
Great review tim, glad to see you back! I Have the low boot and wear them many days while I’m working, not riding. During the snow and ice they gave me great traction, waterproof, and support. Twisted a ankle and couldn’t walk in hiking boots. That’s when I first realized these were great for everyday work and hiking boots. I ride 85% pavement and the low boots are fine for me. Off road I stick to dirt gravel roads and they perform well. Two years of content wear and they are still holding together. Velcro material for closure on top was pulling away from the leather and I glued it back into place with Elmers glue.
You know you're an adventure rider when someone mentions "hangin' out at a gas station" and you know exactly what they're talking about. Glad you're back, Tim!
1:52 pretty much speaks for itself. These have zero protection from an ankle break and I’ve heard from a seasoned ADV off-road instructor that every ankle break he’d seen was from riders wearing these boots. People love these because of comfort and relative price comparison. Just make sure you’re willing to accept the risk. I personally opt for the Sidi Adventure boots. They’re the most expensive pair of footwear I’ve ever bought, but you truly get what you pay for. They’re also very comfortable for the incredible level of protection they offer. Again, it’s your risk; they’re your ankles.
I've been super impressed with my Forma Adventure low boots from the very first day I bought them (about 6 months ago now) Not only do they provide a high level of safety, but they are super comfortable for everyday use. My job involves walking around on a concreate floor, (averaging about 11 KMs per day / 7 Miles per day) I find them marvelously comfortable! I have also ridden through numerous creek crossing on back country roads, with plenty of water, and the boots 100% kept my feet dry!
Tim I’ve been looking at them for over Two years after your Long term review I’m pulling the trigger. Thanks again for all your advice I use it on every ride.
Hey Tim I love my forma boots .. they are fantastic boots for the price point .. I do run the short version with my Africa twin..and my dirt bikes .. they are so comfortable I can walk around all day with them .. hike.. ride.. waterproofing is great . Hands down best boots I have ever had.. I have gotten top level boots that I paid 500.00 to 600.00 and fail .. broken buckles..soles coming off.. leaking.. most are made in China now ... and are junk.. forma boots aren’t made in China junk.. that I love.. I have 2 yrs on mine and are still in great shape after many hrs of use in mud ..water.. dirt ..and snow. I love them and I have recommended them also ..I will hands down purchase them again! Great review honest opinion of a quality product.. thanks for all your work you do with your channel ..your such and inspiration for many people including myself.. I have purchased a lot of the products you tried out and I don’t regret a single purchase... your hands down my favorite channel thank you again and ride on my friend !
I bought these boots about 2 years ago, we live on the east coast of Canada. I have been using them for snowshoe's and walking trails. They are very comfortable 👍. Love them. Also Tim we have been following your channel about 1 1/2 years. We really enjoy it, if ever you need someone to talk to. Please reach out, we are very good listener's. We were supposed to be traveling but covid-19 slowed us down.
The review is spot on! I have had these boots for over a year.I started with dual sport riding , but switched mainly to enduro style riding, roots, rocks, mud ,and sand trails, in New England. They have taken a beating (thanks to me). And have held up very well and have given satisfactory protection from falls and object strikes. Not a full motocross boot, but they are comfortable and break in quickly. I hiked Mt. Monadnock NH. in them. A steep trail(white dot), and was surprised at how well they did, although a bit heavy for that task. I would recommend these.
There's a little more rigid choice with forma the Evo Terra, maybe take a look at those for your future purchase... Thanks for the awesome reviews Tim Cheers from Morocco
I have these boots in both the tall and low versions and agree with all your points. The only issue I had with them was on very hot humid days where I was doing a lot of work picking up the bike and sweating hard...the boots literally became water filled buckets from my sweat...waterproof, and not very breathable. I literally poured out a quarter pint or more of liquid sweat out of each boot when I took them off and they squelched all day and the next as a result.
@robertg2397 yes...as in the sucking "squelching" sound they made when you walked on them due to the linings being still soaked with moisture....very unpleasant feeling and sound
I just bought a pair of these off Facebook marketplace. Guy took maybe a dozen rides with them on his Harley and decided they were no good with his forwards. $80!!! Can’t wait to get out on them. They feel amazing
Great review! I purchased a pair of Forma touring ADV boots based on your previous review as I don't do much off road. I agree that they are very comfortable and durable. Keep riding!
Thank you for your review. It was honest & well presented. I bought a pair of these boots a year ago and I do agree width you. They are well worth it considering all five parameters you mentioned.
One of the best boot reviews I have ever seen. Great format and you hit most of the information I wanted to hear. The only thing missing is maybe what get shapes they fit. For example, I have really wide feet so I am always interested in how boots fit wide feet.
They fit wide feet really well. I wear Euro 49, UK 13. fit like a glove. Managed to hit a warthog at 120 kph and broke my big toe properly on day 3 of 43. Slipped the boots on everyday and carried on in comfort through rain, dirt or shine. This is the benchmark boot for doing African terrain.
I run these riding my 300 two stroke every weekend and just got back from a 2160 mile adventure trip, 1000 plus off it road. They are great so far. I do s itch guard them every couple months. They are 2.5 years old. A yes vote from me!
Excellent review mate - tried them on today and a great fit..... that along with your review has me committed to purchase - Many thanks - Tony (Australia)
Oh my goodness:-) So great to see you back in the saddle. I got the Forma boot that is the step down from those... getting the adventure next. I’m planning a trip around the northern hemisphere & it appears these will do the job :-)
Tim, gotta agree with you, I've got the same boots, same height, and even nearly new, I keep wanting to wear them around even when not planning to be riding! They're just comfortable! Bought them after I dropped my bike on a trip and broke my ankle. Decided I needed the protection.
I own these boots and I concur with all of your conclusions. I looked at the Sidi boots, but they are so narrow that I think that they only fit people with 4 toes, and I have 5... I once hiked 5k in them. That hurt, but most boots that protect you well would have had me in tears after 1k. Good review!
Finally a good review!!!! I just want some protection and not have to lift my whole leg to shift I’m just not used to that . These seem like good flex and fine protection
I own these boots for 6 years and still in great shape. Caught in a hurricane on the motorbike and was drenched for hours, boots stayed dry, the only part of me that stayed dry. You can get new soles for the boots from Forma, but I would just get new boots, however, as I said mine are still in great shape.
Fantastic review. I really liked that you were fair with durability, understanding you were a lot harder on them than most people would be. Gonna check out your other videos.
Ordered my Forma Adv boot "tall" last week. Should arrive Monday. Just in time for the spring season to come in here in Southern Indiana. Great review !!
I’ve had a pair of these for four years and have just bought another pair. The waterproofing went as well about four months ago but saying that they’ve had a hard time. I was going to go for terra evos but was told by the rep that the adventure is far more comfortable if you’re going to wear them all day every day. The heal protection isn’t good ( those who ride off road with hard panniers take note) but it’s been a really great boot hence buying another pair.
I bought these, the TCX Drifter and the Gaerne G All Terrain boots. Both the Forma and the TCX had a toe box that was too tall to shift my Street Scrambler. I know the bike you're on has more room in that area then my Triumph... The G boots have a shorter toe box and are more flexible... Over the last 3 days, I went about 800 miles with them and they were amazing.
Ive had theses boots for 4.5yrs, ridden through some big storms and feet have stayed perfectly dry. I use Leather Dressing on my boots. Its a thick heavy leather conditioner. Keeps all the stitching sealed, along with the leather in great condition. Apply when boots are warm, it will soak in, then wipe off excess..
The low version of this boot is fine for adventure riding, when combined with knee guards. That way you still get shin protection from the knee guard, with the extra benefit of knee protection as well. Then after removing the knee guard, it's better for walking around or hiking, in a more comfortable low cut pair of boots during an adventure. Thanks for your excellent review.
I was thinking the same thing right before I saw your comment. I am in the market and since I do ride almost all pavement, I figured the low version would suit me just fine and if I ever need the extra protection of the high version of these boots, I could just put on shin/knee guards. Keeping them separate would allow easy on/off alas something I'd not be able to do with the high-cut version.
Hi Tim, I agree 100% as a Forma user. I've got the black version. I'm not riding off-road as much as you but yes, definitely buy with confidence! Thanks Tim!
Hey Tim, great review. I actually have these boots as well. They were great for my xr650l but for anything heavier like my t7 It's dangerous. I admit I loved these boots for the past 9months however I was riding down a fire road on my t7 and seen something jump in the bushes out of the corner of my eye and in that split second I had my eye off the road I hit the only rock in the road lol. It knocked me into a soft patch of dirt and I washed out And broke my leg pretty bad. I was on a solo overnighter. I had to learn my lesson with these boots the hard way. I guess what I'm trying to get at Is you can have an accident anywhere whether it be An object or gravel on the Pavement, a car or animal jumping out in front of you or a simple wash out on a fire road. Although these boots look nice and are comfortable to walk around in and hang out in. When it comes down to it They are dangerous because they don't have the ankle protection and shin protection you need. I will continue to use these boots for my lighter weight bikesAs I feel they have enough protection for my 250R, And maybe my XR650L. But I am back in the market for a better protected boot. I'm looking into the Gaerne SG-10 or the Gaerne Dakar as they are another like the forma but with more anke support and protection. One I make it out of bed I'm going boot shopping lol. Bed sores hurt more than broken leg. Thanks for the good reviews you do. Cheers
I had to return mine & get the shorter ones because my calfs are too big for the tall version. The shorter version is still great. I also recommend them.
I have the low adventure boots. I love them. I have worn them walking in the snow and my feet remained completely dry. The worst thing is how warm they can get in the Texas summer.
I just bought a pair of Sidi Adventure 2 boots. They offer far greater protection than the Forma boots you show, to the extent that I would class the Forma's to be a more general purpose riding boot than a good adventure boot. My old leather boots game me no protection from cold or wet, no impact protection or support for ankles, and minimal padding for the shin compared to my new boots that offer superb protection all round, and provide rigid protection over the instep and ankles along with toe and heel protection. The Sidi's are possibly the best adventure boots available today. It would be great if you could test and review a pair in comparison with your old Forma boots.
These sound like great boots. They look good, too. Maybe I'd go for the lower versions. 40,000 miles = one hell of a test! Glad to see you looking so well.
I’m on my second pair of Forma ADV boots 👢 first pair on 100,000kms - 60,000 miles . Used for Enduro, ADV , and Road riding. My stitching came out in one ☝️ place eventually and basically wore the sole out . Fantastic boots on my second pair .
Great review!! I've loved mine for 4 years and 35,000 miles on and offroad, water crossings, below freezing and above 100f. I will buy the same if these ever wear out. Strangely, I don't think my feet have ever been too hot or cold or even uncomfortable. I did give them a coat of Sno Seal about 2 years in and they remain waterproof (It only made them look better). I agree with your assessment and couldn't recommend more highly based on my experiences in them.
I have had the Terra version of thee boots for 4+ years, about 40,000 miles. For the waterproofing, you will find that the boots have an internal waterproof liner - funny thing is that for those, the most common point of failure is long toenails :) if you have anything like twigs, trocks, etc (Or long toenails ) you can wear away at the waterproof liner and compromise the waterproofness of the boots. Just calling that out, if your boots do not have the internal liner, then you can disregard, but I think all the forma boots are the same in that respect. Good video, thanks for it. Mike
I wish I could post a pi ture of the xrays of my right foot after getting it caught, pinned under my Vstrom 650 last summer, wearing my Forma boots. I fell down riding off road in softball size rocks. The sole of the boot completely folded, with my foot inside. Result: every tarsal bone was crushed, including the large bone of the big toe. It took 2 hours of surgery to put it back together, with 12 screws, titanium plate, bone graft, and three K-wires. 2 months immobilized and over a year of recovery. I’m now in the market for a boot with a much, much stiffer sole. I’m looking at the Sidi Goretex Adventure boot.
Yes, excellent boot. I’ve had mine for over 5 years and they’re almost good as new. I’m a long touring bike rider, so haven’t exposed the same level of abuse you have. The only thing I’ve done is treat the leather with Lexol after a good soaking from riding all day in the rain. Thank you the excellent review. Be safe and well...
I have Forma Evo Terra, they are more stiff but I have ride just 2000 miles so there are not broken yet, but the quatllity is very good. Thanks for your good video.
I like mine. I switched to motocross boots for the harder stiff because there wasn’t enough support in the ankle area. I just use them for street/forest service roads now. I had an issue where my foot peg would catch the inner panel of leather. Caused me to fall a couple times as the boot got caught as I was putting my foot down. I contacted Forma about it suggesting a possible issue and maybe changing the design for future versions. They offered to 50% off a new set. I told then I wasn’t looking for new boots but just suggesting a way to make them better. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for this informative review, I bought these boots partially because of it. So far I completely agree with your assessment, particularly how comfortable they were out of the box. I have big (13) wide feet and even normal shoes can be a challenge, but these feel great. I realize they don’t have the level of protection that motocross boots have, but they are a big step up from the cruiser boots I was wearing. Thanks again for taking the time to do this update.
Thanks Tim, great review. I've had the low version for 2+ years (on road use only). Can't fault them - comfortable to walk in, grippy soles, waterproof, easy to use buckles and don't make you look like a stormtrooper when you're off the bike. They have a large toe box so I had to adjust my gear shift a bit to accommodate.
I have owned these boots for a year and have had to repair them already. The sole started to come apart (glued together rather than stitched). Just be aware you may want to bring some shoe glue in case you have a blow out like I did!
Tim great review as always. I was really considering these particular boots but ultimately, I decided on that the increased protection offered by an MX boot is worth it. I went with the O'neil Element and while they are not meant for walking around camp, they provide great protection against twisting and crushing which was my priority. I am so glad to see you making videos again. I hope all is well. Thank you Nathan
Tim, great review, thanks. I've had my Formas for 2 years and love 'em, but obviously have not done anything like the miles you have. So they should last another couple of years then 👍😊
No, I'm on my third pair of Italian-made pull-on Cofra Thermic protective boots. Standard wear in Eastern Europe motorcycling and heavy industry. $125 a pair shipped out of NY State. Multiple colors. Warm in cold weather. I ride dual sport. .
Great timing...I about to buy some boots as an alternative to my motocross boots.. I’ve used Forma boots for racing and the brand is very good...great value👍
I've had mine for 4 years now and still love them. I have wide feet and they fit great. After I threw away the 99 cent insoles and replaced them with some $29 sport gel ones they feel like good sneakers. Super comfortable, look great, good protection for typical ADV riding, still waterproof and I bought mine for $200 shipped free from Italy. I'm one of those obsessed with getting the most for the least and these boots won me over.
Thanks, I bought these boots based on your previous recommendation. They’ve been great for riding my GS, but a little clunky for a sport bike (like my Interceptor).
I have worn my forma low boots for the last 3 years . Never leaked and really comfortable and we get plenty of rain in uk .
+1 for the low option
I have mine for 10000 miles happy riding. They are great but not for off-road.
@@r13gbs Im torn between the low and tall, not for off road. but thinking about shin protection
@@misterchuck6866 So, how did it turn out?

Lol.
Every ankle break was in these boots?
So essentially nobody has broken an ankle until these boots were made?
Nice to see you more regularly Tim. Typical great review.
I bought them last year after I’ve seen your review. Great boots, thanks for advice, Sir!
I’m from South Africa and have the half boot version. I agree with your comments. Excellent boot and comfortable from day 1
Awesome boots! I have the both the tall and the short and you description of their use, value, etc is spot on! Ride safe!

Use Shoe Goo on the stitching part, it will fix that separation for sure, then scotch Guard and you are set

Cheers
The Gaerne Dakar are amazing but slightly narrower than these Forma. If you have wide feet, the Dakar are not for you. Otherwise they're excellent
Hi Tim, I have used them as snow boots, too! Great traction for our Colorado snow. ;)
Get your self some motorcycle summer socks.
100% agree. I really like mine. Will purchase again.
Glorified tennis shoes and the support of them also. I use Gearne Fastbacks for the best of support and comfort along with being able to resole them.
Yes agreed, very comfy, wear all day boots. Will try sidi next for a liitle more protection of ankles.Good accurate review!
This is a nice video.
I agree brown is better even for black pants.
Mike
Totally agree. I love mine , they comfy like slippers
Glad to hear they made it so far!!
Just bought a pair but had to go low as the standard wouldn’t strap up around my calf. Looking forward to riding in them.
Good to see you back.
Thanks Tim, I'm shopping for my next set of boots. Your video was very informative.
Eric
I have owned these boots for a year and have had to repair them already. The sole started to come apart (glued together rather than stitched). Just be aware you may want to bring some shoe glue in case you have a blow out like I did!
Tim great review as always. I was really considering these particular boots but ultimately, I decided on that the increased protection offered by an MX boot is worth it. I went with the O'neil Element and while they are not meant for walking around camp, they provide great protection against twisting and crushing which was my priority. I am so glad to see you making videos again. I hope all is well.
Thank you
Nathan
Have the Evo Terra Mid & love them
Tim, great review, thanks.
$125 a pair
shipped out of NY State.
