Gastropexy Surgery for GDV

The Gastropexy!
This surgical procedure can prevent a GDV, or bloat (check out my video on GDV for more info!). As an ECC veterinarian, I absolutely HATE GDV cases. Even amongst emergencies they are terrible. And I encourage every single person that owns a large breed dog, or a dog with a very deep chest, to speak with their primary care veterinarian about having this surgery performed prophylactically at a young age to prevent GDV/bloat from happening.
Trust me, you do NOT want to be sitting at one of the only few emergency vet hospital open at 11pm having to deal with a GDV emergency. It’s not fun for you, your pet, or us as emergency vet workers.

While nothing beats a vet visit, I now know what symptoms to look out for and what questions to ask.

thanks for the vid doc, just took our german shepherd in for emergency surgery for gdv today...caught it early so no stomach was removed however still anxiously awaiting good recovery news tomorrow. lots of faith in our doc, he has seen our baby girl since she came home with us.

I like your explanation of something I have never heard of, but I do have (probably a dumb) question. Is this surgery somewhat connected or similar to gastric bypass or sleeve surgery in humans? Sorry for the dumb question, but thanks for your help.

I think it just shares that "gastric" part in the name and that they're not related (I'm not 100% sure tho)

Gastric bypass goes from the esophagus to a pouch created from only a small upper portion of the stomach, then small intestine, therefore bypassing the rest of the stomach and the duodenum
