On Dashiel Hammet, he also wrote The Maltese Falcon, which of course was one of the famous films noir. The Big Sleep is by Raymond Chandler. Humphrey Bogart happened to appear in both films, which could lead to your confusion:) The Thin Man was made into several movies, after the success of the first movie with William Powell and Myrna Loy playing Nick and Nora Charles. They had great chemistry together and a similar sense of humor. People began to believe that they were married in real life.
I've read all of Josephine Tey's books but my favorites were the standalones Brat Farrar and Miss Pym Disposes and one of the Grant series, The Franchise Affair. I think that one is a classic. The author Nicola Upson has written a series of mysteries with Josephine Tey as the main character. I've just picked up one that deals with Alfred Hitchcock and Josephine meeting to hammer out a deal for making one of her books into a film; and of course, a murder occurs. I couldn't resist this one, as Hitchcock is one of my favorite directors.

@@KatJack-vl8xj I realised after I hadn't read Hammet before, but I love The Maltese Falcon film, and The Big Sleep, I definitely get all those authors mixed up. I've not seen any films of The Thin Man so that sounds interesting. Glad people seem to love Brat Farrar!

Hi Aaron! What a fantastic book haul! I remember reading Rosamunde Pilcher long ago. I might like to revisit her. I do love the Library of America editions. I just picked up a two-volume set of Ursula K. LeGuin in the Library of America series, and I got them for a great price. Real treasures! I love that you have Katie's book, which looks wonderful. I've read Brat Farrar and The Sparrow and thought they were both excellent. I didn't expect to like Brat Farrar much as it's horsey and that's not my thing, but it was very good. The Sparrow is not your traditional sci-fi, very thought-provoking. There's a sequel too, Children of God, which I didn't think was quite as good. They're not overtly religious by the way. The one Rosamund Pilcher I've read was Winter Solstice and I really liked it. I must get to The Shell Seekers. Nice haul, Aaron!

The Sparrow is amazing! (And simultaneously so hard to read!). The year I read it I recommended it to everyone! I was initially attracted to it because of the Jesuit protagonist. (I'm a long time Jesuit fan😆). And it made sense to me that yes, if there was a first contact event in real life and a religious order got involved, it would for sure be the Jesuits. After I read it I discovered there's another book about Jesuits in space, which I haven't read but want to.
Werehunter sounds so fun! I added it to my want to read list. (Mercedes Lackey is an author I'd like to read, but I'd only heard about her fantasy series).
