  • In Loving Memory of Charles “Rick” Richard Dyer
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles “Rick” Richard Dyer, who left us peacefully on the evening of December 5th at the age of 76.
Rick was deeply loved and supported by his family: his wife, Cheryl; his three sons, Michael Butler, Ricky (Erin) Dyer, and Neil (Ashleigh) Dyer; his two stepdaughters, Jenni (Mitch) Drouillard and Kelli Clark; as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Rick’s life revolved around his love for cars. Whether they were fast or slow, shiny or worn, cars always brought him joy. His career began at a young age when he owned a gas station. He later founded Dyer’s Machine Service, an automotive machinery business that he eventually passed down to his son Michael. However, Rick’s favorite and most memorable career was working for C.A.R.S. Inc., where he developed a motorsports program that allowed him to travel the country racing with close friends and family.
One of Rick’s proudest achievements was contributing to the creation of Hot Rod Magazine's Fastest Street Car Shootout series in the late ’80s to mid-’90s. Along the way, he formed lifelong friendships with many remarkable people.
After retiring, Rick continued to pursue his passion for cars by building, buying, and selling them for himself, his wife, and those he cared about. He also loved attending car cruises, whether local or out of state, always finding joy in the experience. And yes, he was known for his iconic “Rick Dyer Burnouts!”
Rick was truly one of a kind. His humor, warmth, and larger-than-life storytelling (often 75% embellished!) made him a joy to be around. He will be profoundly missed, but he left an incredible legacy during his 76 years with us.
