Daniel stole from Brody bc Sean stole 3 or more things so it gave Daniel the idea that stealing=good. He (Daniel) stole a figurine from Brody while they were in the car. It doesn’t show him doing it but at the motel you can see a little figurine that was not there before.

And I think that’s why Daniel has been just doing what he wants. EVEN THOUGH if they were to turn themselves in, OR get caught Daniel would LOSE it, and maybe finally realize that his brother was trying to do best. Because I’m pretty sure the police are thinking Sean (which he did even by accident) killed that kid, and then killed the cop. So as soon as they find them Sean is going to the pen and they’ll probably stick Daniel with the next of kin. BUT Daniel can’t control himself, even for a what? Like 12 year old. So he won’t last long without Sean either. Sadly
