Gnocchi is made with potatoes 😁 you guys should check out the so-called Spätzle shaker, its a very convenient device to make home made spätzle. Recipe is included
I fear to reveal a German attitude trying to be very exact :-) “Wiener Schnitzel” (Viennese Schnitzel) is calf, while “Schnitzel Wiener Art” (Schnitzel made in the Viennese way) usually is pork (as well as “Wiener Schnitzel vom Schwein”). You may also get a ”Hühnerschnitzel“ or a “Hähnchenschnitzel“ (chicken) or a ”Putenschnitzel“ (turkey).
Schnitzel made out of chicken is most of the time called "Putenschnitzel" though. So it is a type of Schnitzel. Also Schnitzel made with pork is called "Schnitzel Wiener Art" to differentiate it from the real "Wiener Schnitzel" which is normally made from calf as you correctly stated.
Nice Video. As far as I know the Döner we know in germany evolved in germany from a turkish dish. The "legend" is that an immigrant from turkey that moved to Berlin found it difficult to sell this trditional dish to german customers since they didn't want to take the time to sit down and eat their meat and salad with turkish bread on the side. So he created a bread that he filled with the meat, salad and sauces to eat on the go.
Germany tries really hard to make having a family easy/ welcoming because the country is gradually getting older meaning there are more and more old people and less young people to work and pay taxes. It's a very interesting topic actually
Americans need to fight for proper health insurance as well as maternity leave, too! It's totally unacceptable for any western country to not grant these to its citizens.
Fines for missing tickets are actually 60€ for some years now. And I'd transfer earth floor rather to ground floor ☺️ But let's have a word about Döner 😉 it's an 100% Turkish dish, but was sort of reinvented in Germany (the original is served in a different way instead of stuffing it into a bun). You should look it up, it's an interesting story.
Wow 🤩 I am from Cologne and this was super interested how you described my hometown 🤗 also you are very attractive 😄 there were so many interesting parts I could comment on 😁 thank you for sharing your experience!! 🙏
Thank you chap for that outside view on us! And we have a lot of very different dialects in our country. Before 1871 we where a patchwork of small kingdoms and dukedoms.
Köln/Cologne/Keulen is a city of border culture. Joppie sauce is Dutch. The cone for fries is Belgian. The language Kölsch has a Dutch slang, it's 'dutchified' German or 'belgian' German, for the Belgians speak Wallonish which is Belgian French, and they also speak Flemish which is Belgian Dutch.
Very sympatisch, positive and lustig. You're very fortunate to have had the chance to step out of your day to day in the States...more people should follow your example of learning by doing with humor, curiosity and an open door policy, if not an open mind. Thanks for the video and gute Reise
If you are caught without a ticket at public transport, in some cities you have to pay not only 40 Euros, but 60 Euros as a fine. As for staying at home after giving birth, it's 3 years you get payed as a mom or dad when you stay at home with your kid. If you want to work, on the other hand, the state will pay part or whole of the costs for a day care/nursery.
Wow, that was great. Simply adding observations, little to no bias, Wow again and kudos to you. I liked especially the last ones about the different sounds of "real" German an "american" German, good explanation. And your German was great (Y)
Thanks for the very good (and positive) description. Your German pronounciation is excellent! Wiener Schnitzel is made from Veal, which is breaded. You have versions, which are made from pork (Wiener Art - Vienna Style) and Geflügleschnitzel. The latter is essentially a large Chicken nugget :-). In Cologne Carnival is called „Karneval“ or in local idiom „Fasteloovend“. In Southern Germany (Bavaria and Baden Würtenberg) it is called Fasching. It is more like Mardi gras than Halloween. I came back from the US via Frankfurt on carnival Thursday and knew what was expecting us. When the doors of the ICE opened to a crowded platform in Cologne Central Station with everybody in a crazy mood and heavily costumed the faces of the other business travelers were a show, indeed. Also knowing that there ties were all to be cut of by women in the cause of the next 200m :-) also great Carnival music, look up Querbeat, Kasalla, Brings, ...
Pretty well done with the accent description. It really sounded A LOT more like an German would pronounce it when you changed your mouth ;). Pretty interesting to hear that :).
Egal woher man kommt. Liebe Grüße from Germany, is a good channel to learn... About other countries in the world. Like this..
Went to the Pommesplace he speaks of. And thats the frst time I ate Yuppie-Sauce too! It comes from the netherlands and is the best thing to pair fries with.
Unser gute Mensch, one thing I might add, if you didn't, is that Köln is in a part of Germany that is traditionally Catholic. That's why they celebrate Fasching, which corresponds to the beginning of Lent, a primarily Catholic observance. The Rheinland is known to be Catholic. Except for Bavaria, the rest of Germany is Protestant, generally speaking.
You can buy Rotkohl in almost any American Supermarket. Just remember it's Red Cabbage. Aunt Nellies is a good brand. If not Greenwoods is sold mos everywhere. Just look in you canned vegetable section!
Et hätt noch immer jot jejange. :) Well i am not from Cologne, but only 2 hours away and yes this is really typical for cologne but only really close to there.
The real Wiener schnitzel is made of calf. If you order a schnitzel that says „wiener art“ you either get pork or chicken. Also it’s not german its Austrian.
Wienerschnitzel is calf-meat. When they sell pork or chicken (never seen chicken sold as Wienerschnitzel) then you have to name it "Schnitzer wiener Art". Which means "Schnitzel inspired by Wienerschnitzel" .. of course a lot of restaurants try to trick you. Some might doesn't know it better.
Wiener Schnitzel is pounded down, is made of young beef (calf) and not served with mushroom sauce. The Pork or chicken Schnitzel are Schnitzel of „Wiener kind“, just a cheap bad copy. „Jut jemacht“ will be said in Berlin too. XD
the fries that way are actually a dutch idea and hasnt been offered that way forever. its more common to have fries with either Schnitzel, curry sausage or curry meatloaf for a German. Typical dutch is to have the big cone of fries with mayonaise and diced onions in it. hm Döner is.. in its essence not German. A Turkish person in Germany chose to put it into the bun though. So its like putting a sausage into a bun to eat it more easy xD That's the deal
The döner was invented by a turkish immigrant in Berlin. The fries is probably an influence from belgium (next to köln) where fries are from (not france!)
Your german is quite good compared to the german i heard from the other Ytubers that go about germany. You also managed kölsch dialect, which is kinda hard for germans even. Regarding this, you have to consider that this part of germany was occupied by the french (napoleonic era), so many western dialects have a french pronounciation of sorts. You'll find that all along the rhine, generally speaking.
It´s mostly not 40, its 60€ for not having a ticket and this only for the first two times. After the third time you usually have to face a criminal investigation for public transporation fraud. You can finaly end up in prison for this, but usually u have to pay a larger fine were the amont is calculated by your income.
Spätzle is not made of potatos. It is flour with eggs and salt
Gnocchi is made with potatoes 😁 you guys should check out the so-called Spätzle shaker, its a very convenient device to make home made spätzle. Recipe is included
Finally an “About Germany” video that is not only based on Bavarian experience 👍
In Cologne there is a rule that no building can be higher as the dom
Wiener Schnitzel is neither pork nor chicken. It's calf. German schnitzel is pork. Chicken is not schnitzel.
Exactly!
Other "Schnitzel" are called "Wiener Art" because "Wiener Schnitzel" is a registered expression.
I fear to reveal a German attitude trying to be very exact :-)
“Wiener Schnitzel” (Viennese Schnitzel) is calf, while “Schnitzel Wiener Art” (Schnitzel made in the Viennese way) usually is pork (as well as “Wiener Schnitzel vom Schwein”). You may also get a ”Hühnerschnitzel“ or a “Hähnchenschnitzel“ (chicken) or a ”Putenschnitzel“ (turkey).
In Germany is a Wiener Schnitzel Calf and a Schnitzel „Wiener Style“ Pork etc.
I think he didn't mean chicken, but turkey, which is rather common
BTW - 😂 we believe in air conditioning- but energy here in Germany is easily 10-13- times more expensive than in most US states
What an intelligent and sympathic person.
Great job describing Germany - positive, humorous, contrasty, etc.
I am German and except small things this is 100% true about Germany. Fantastic research
i lost it when he said “ “jut” instead of “gut” which means “good” “ 😂😂
Great video. The Döner Kebab is originally Turkish, but the version putting it inside a flatbread was the idea of a Turkish immigrant in Berlin.
That isn't true. The first döners was sold in Baden-Württemberg 😉
I have to correct you, in most parts of Germany (except most of Bavaria) we actually don't "roll" the R
You have a good german teacher.😀
you’re a good man! Great video, glad you enjoyed visiting Germany! :-)
Nice one. Unlike many of the Other vids you made some good points. Esp. the pronounciation.
Allways funny to see when Germany is in the title all german "The comment section is ours " 😂
Germany tries really hard to make having a family easy/ welcoming because the country is gradually getting older meaning there are more and more old people and less young people to work and pay taxes. It's a very interesting topic actually
Very accurate description of German culture, language and life.
Glad you enjoyed your time here. You seem like a cool dude, thanks for sharing your experiences.
Thanks for liking my country and thanks for your video !!

Americans don’t have maternity leave ?😳😳
Yes and all the shops are closed on public holidays as well as Sundays.
Wow 🤩 I am from Cologne and this was super interested how you described my hometown 🤗 also you are very attractive 😄 there were so many interesting parts I could comment on 😁 thank you for sharing your experience!! 🙏
Döner is from Turkey. As we have a lot of German-Turkish people in our country they brought the Döner fast food shops in.
Thank you chap for that outside view on us! And we have a lot of very different dialects in our country. Before 1871 we where a patchwork of small kingdoms and dukedoms.

On the trains it says that if you dont have a ticket or rmv card then you have to pay €60

Germans are very hard working people. Me, a german: lies in bed, skipping class
Cool video. Thanks for sharing your views!

Oh by the way. I would like to see that young American gentleman as a future president of his country. Not joking.

The 'Döner' originally is from Turkey

Lovely video. Hope you've had a great stay!
German food is one of the best foods in the world... oh god.
Love your attitude. Subscribed. Most of my experiences are from Berlin, but I can relate so well to your Cologne experience.
Went to the Pommesplace he speaks of. And thats the frst time I ate Yuppie-Sauce too! It comes from the netherlands and is the best thing to pair fries with.
Wiener Schnitzel is always from calf. If it's not it's a scam. Schnitzel Wiener Art or just Schnitzel is usually from pork and sometimes chicken.
This is actually a great video. Seems like you start loving Germany 😉you can have an ac but it's not healthy and it's pretty bad for the environment.
Unser gute Mensch, one thing I might add, if you didn't, is that Köln is in a part of Germany that is traditionally Catholic. I loooove that he quotes Kölsch words 😂😍
,, E " in elevator means ,,Erdgeschoss " ... Basic level,or entrance!
Ooh Köln! I was there like 100 times
As an american you should know why there's no tall buildings in Köln
That was actually much more the British than
the Americans.
Joppiesauce comes from netherland we germans love it 😂
11:59 very good... Respect c:
Joppie-Soße and eating your fries in a paper cone isn't German. It's from the Netherlands.
I m 62 now and I know the paper cones and the sauces since my early childhood in Oberhausen (Ruhrgebiet)
I always thought the cone thing was belgian🤷🏻♀️
5:20 Agree about no AC. It’s HORRIBLE in the summer!
The real Wiener schnitzel is made of calf. If you order a schnitzel that says „wiener art“ you either get pork or chicken. Also it’s not german its Austrian.
I think, that you've understand the German Culture👍Btw...I am German...You are welcome!!!☺️

I love like you say "Knödel" xDD
Your german is really good. 👍
Very interesting perspective.
And now I'm I'm hungry!
The döner was invented by a turkish immigrant in Berlin. The fries is probably an influence from belgium (next to köln) where fries are from (not france!)
If you get caught without a ticket it's 60€

"german food is probably the best if not close second" i think this should be the other way around, no?
I live in Cologne and we actually only have about 1Mio people that live here
wiener schnitzel is veal and it isn´t german, but austrian. if you say german food is the best in the world, you might wanna visit austria :-)
Kölsch is inspired by dutch, thats why it sounds so funny :)
GREAT!! First american who tries to speak KÖLSCH!!!Well deine ;)
et hätt noch immer jot jejange / it alwayse gone well
Wiener schnitzel is veal. Spaetzle is not a potato noodle.

wiener schnitzel does not consist of pork or poultry, but always beef. otherwise it is not a wiener schnitzel but only schnitzel viennese style.
Hipety Hopety
This comment section soon gonna be German property!
Nice
Gratulation, deine deutsche Aussprache ist großartig.
There are only 1 million habitants in Cologne.
A Schnitzel is usually made of pork and a Wiener Schnitzel of veal. Therefore are Wiener Schnitzel usually more expensive than "normal" Schnitzel.
Schnitzel is austrian
Cologne has 1 million people living there, not 2 million. But great video!
Köln(Colonge) or North Rhine Westphalia is nor kinda in the center of Germany, it is on the Western border. Otherwise, nice video!
Der Kommentar Bereich ist nun Eigentum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland!
Kölnisch Wasser is German for eau de Cologne
I think that’s better to translate to😂
ahhh goddammit a germany video where we ze germans do not rule over the comment section
Schnitzel originated in Austria! 🇦🇹
Chicken- Schnitzel 😂😂😂
If you get caught without a ticket it’s actually 60 euros
Köln has only 1 Million people.
KOMMENTARE EINNEHMEN!
