This is exactly the video I was looking for. I am planning to make mine larger, hopefully my end result will be 16 x 16, so I am going to start with an increase of 30% just in case. I just got a super needle felting tool with like 20 needles so I'm going to use that baby to see what happens when I needle felt the roll with it before wet felting. Great video, I'm so glad you shared this, thank you.

Finally got around to doing this for myself! I had a large piece of calligraphy felt from a different "thing", and used it as my flat mat. Time will tell if it works. Currently in the washer. I had bought some super cheap batting...why, I don't know. I had just learned about needle felting and thought it was a good idea. Well, it became my stuffing! At least it is getting used! Love your humor, hands, and creativity!

A little bit of baking soda with the soap makes a good difference and yes with clothes or old towels and tennis balls in the dryer. I wonder also about a few layers of Home Depot moving blkts. They are felt. Used to be wool felt but possibly acrylic these days. I may try to knit with 2 strands fisherman's wool and felt it for layers. Thank you so much for all your videos. I haven't yet begun to needle felt have supplies arriving soon to start. Love your videos and thoughtful explanations

Thank you for this felt session. I was wondering if I could "felt" myself a pillow, much like you said how this wool felting surface could be used as a neck pillow (for long car drives or air travel)

Up to now I've made my surfaces out of burlap jute and filled it with rice - it has been useable for 3 to 5 month.
Now I am going to try this kind of surfaces and I'm looking forward on how long I can use this alternative
    It surely will look nicer!!!!
Thank you for sharing your ideas with us!

Why do you not like to use a foam block for felting surface.
Also wondering if you could get a wool horse pad, and use it to make a Mcstab?
They use the wool horse pad for quilting, a lot.
    Just a idea.

Did you run it through all cycles of the washer or just rinse/spin? At what temperature? Dry with clothes or no and for approximately how long? Great idea. Definitely going to try this.

Did you wash and dry it on the gentle cycle? Also did you use regular clothes detergent in the washer?

Thank you so much for this - it's exactly what I was looking for. Mine started out 16" square and came out of the dryer at 12 by 14 which is great. Mine is still shedding a little bit; does that mean I didn't use the soap enough or rub it enough, or is that to be expected?

Voile. Like a silky fine (very fine) netting. If you ask a fabric store for silk voile, you would only need like one or two yards, I would think.

Thank you Sara, this eco-friendly idea has been in my mind recently and it's great you've done all the hard work and, as usual, presented so well! I have sheep, so shall try incorporating carded 'core' wool within the package, and see how that goes. When you say 'regular' cycle wash, is that 40 degrees? Any thoughts on 60 degrees, or is 40 ample? And do you dry on hot or warm? Thank you so much again.

I am a bobbin lace maker in Australia and wanted to make a wool felted pricking pad. After watching this video l now have some ideas. Just hoping to be able to get these items here. Price of postage would make it very expensive to buy from you.

Sara Renzulli I understand. I only started needle felting last year and you taught me how to do it and reasonably well for a beginner. I Just thought I’d ask ( you should always ask :)) but I do admire your teaching techniques and obviously your work is outstanding. Thank you anyway
