Controlling the Capital of the Syrian Revolution: Ghosts of Aleppo (Part 1)

  • Aleppo is Syria's largest metropolitan area and a millennia-old commercial capital. Today, however, it is a relative ghost town, threatened by regime bombing from the air and a militant offensive on the ground.
    For two weeks this summer, VICE News embedded with the Islamic Front, a coalition of Islamist rebels fighting the forces of President Bashar al-Assad on one hand and Islamic State militants on the other. From their secret tunnels beneath the ancient city to their threatened frontline outposts in Aleppo's ruined medieval center, we followed the Islamic Front as it battled against overwhelming odds to retain control of the capital of the Syrian revolution.

      I guess they would just quote some different random line and say the same thing about other Muslims...that's just the way "holy books" work. Open to every fucking interpretation. Look at what the Catholic Church managed to read into the Bible over the centuries.

    • @TheAdjundantReflex
      @TheAdjundantReflex 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      SaaSfalas No, that's not how holy books work. The Qur'an is very specific. Doesn't matter what the Catholics do, the Bible is different.

    • @TheBIOSStar
      @TheBIOSStar 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      TheAdjundantReflex Oh then please remind me why there are so many groups interpreting these very specific parts in completely different ways.
      This is exactly how "holy" books and their assorted religious leaders function. You're not trying to sweep the whole religious conflict in the middle east under a rug and call it "political differences", are you?

    • @amanr777
      @amanr777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SaaSfalas I responded to youre first comment, now Im going to respond to your second, but its more or less going to be what I said before.
      You're not trying to sweep the whole religious conflict in the middle east under a rug and call it "political differences", are you?
      Im not sweeping anything under the rug. What does Muslim mean? One who finds peace through Gods mercy and according the verse I stated in my first comment, Allah is only merciful to those show mercy. What does Allah say at the beginning of every chapter of the Quran. In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful. Mercy is obviously a large part of our religion.
      The principles established by the early Caliphs were also honoured during the Crusades, as exemplified by Sultans such as Saladin and Al-Kamil. For example, after Al-Kamil defeated the Franks during the Crusades, Oliverus Scholasticus praised the Islamic laws of war, commenting on how Al-Kamil supplied the defeated Frankish army with food:[14]
      “ Who could doubt that such goodness, friendship and charity come from God? Men whose parents, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, had died in agony at our hands, whose lands we took, whom we drove naked from their homes, revived us with their own food when we were dying of hunger and showered us with kindness even when we were in their power.[15] ”
      The early Islamic treatises on international law from the 9th century onwards covered the application of Islamic ethics, Islamic economic jurisprudence and Islamic military jurisprudence to international law,[16] and were concerned with a number of modern international law topics, including the law of treaties; the treatment of diplomats, hostages, refugees and prisoners of war; the right of asylum; conduct on the battlefield; protection of women, children and non-combatant civilians; contracts across the lines of battle; the use of poisonous weapons; and devastation of enemy territory.[14]
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_military_jurisprudence#Ethics_of_warfare
      After reading this passage, does ISIS do any of these things? No! these people are crazy and rightfully so. Any one would be in their situation. Before America, Sadam Hussein was killing Sunnis by the thousands if not millions and then what happens? America bombs them for over a decade. They see their homes destroyed. Friends and family killed? Is it wrong that their crazy? Is it wrong that they want to hurt the ones that did this? Dont get misunderstand me, what their doing is evil, but it is understandable. I think you would do what their doing if you were in their situation, regardless of religion. My answer to your question, these people are crazy, as they should be and their using Islam as an excuse because Islam is all they have left.

    It's kinda funny that the rebels dont actually shoot at anything, or throw nades into effective places. They just fire blind, and throw nades at snipers in distant unreachable buildings.

    • @samidawud6405
      @samidawud6405 9 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Well because Assad forces use high building to shoot at us.
      And we can't do anything about it.

    • @cyanit42
      @cyanit42 9 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      This isn't a "battle" it's a siege. Both factions control certain parts of the City and the rebels are probably outmanned and outgunned. If they look for actual targets they can also be targeted. And the other side has air support and snipers in high buildings.

      zaza za 635-638, Christian Damascus, Antioch, Jerusalem and Alexandria fell to invading muslims.
      650, Muslim armies reach Cilicia and Caesarea and also raid Cyprus, Rhodes, Crete and Siciliy carrying off thousands of christian slaves
      711-715, Muslim armies invaded and conquered most of Spain
      732, Invasion of France, repulsed.
      792, Muslim ruler of Spain calls for a new invasion of France, an international Islamic crusade, repulsed again.
      827, Invasion of Italy and Sicily which was held by muslims until 1091
      846, Muslim armies reach Rome and forces the pope to pay tribute
      848, Another invasion of France and again repulsed.
      Nevermind Byzantium begging Europe for help against the constant incursions, also nevermind that the muslims impoverished Europe by destroying naval trade and travel routes.
      1095, Pope Urban II calls for the FIRST crusade.
      Damn those evil crusaders to hell, damn them all i tell you.
