and when new built houses are built, they are so badly built and so effing expensive that no one actually wants them. There is a new housing estate near where I live, for the price of one of their very small two bedroom house is £190,000 and it's so badly constructed it would be surprising it lasting 10 years without major and expensive repairs.
"This supply and demand problem has evolved into the housing crisis the UK grapples with today." With an average fertility rate of only 1.6 per woman, other things being equal, the UK population would be decreasing and demand for housing would be decreasing, too. If demand were decreasing, while supply increases, albeit slowly, property prices and rents would be falling in real terms. But in fact the population has grown by about 8 million since the start of this century. The population of London has grown by about 2 million during that time, that's an increase of more than 25%. Demand is outstripping supply, that is why there is a housing crisis.
The problem is worse. We need more children as we are facing demographic decline without a lot of immigration. This compounds the issue and makes housing even more important as something for the country to sort out. The problem is also cultural. We have become reliant on government and so self centered that we aren't having enough children anymore.
Why should anyone be entitled to financial help from the government? I work hard, pay my taxes and pay my rent on time. Why should my tax money subsidise people who won't work?

its much deeper than this
MASS IMMIGRATION.
it is not rocket science to know why there. Is a housing crisis in this island there is 😂 to many humans which is also world wide problem
why are people who have no money to live, having kids?

They are increasingly not, birth rate is below replacement now
Housing is an asset in the UK and a housing shortage keeps prices high.

You are showing an American lady talking about mold in her UK home? 😂😂😂
Rampant immigration thanks to our government might have something to do with!
Do you think two million illegal immigrants might have anything to do with the housing crisis????
Boomers
