your tips were super helpful. have you ever had issues with buzzing on your snare drum? i've tried a bunch of fixes but nothing seems to work.

I have yes. Sometimes you get a sympathetic buzz when you hit a tom tuned at a certain pitch. If the snare buzzing as you play it, try different tensions on the snare strainer, or use some dampening like gaffer tape or material. Some ppl put their wallet on the snare!

Try silent mesh heads, or a practice pad. Electronic kit etc, all good options.
