Love the bit at 2.10 when they reform to take up the full width of the Mall. Very, very impressive when they march up towards the palace. I went to the Beating of the Retreat at Horseguards many years ago and have always wanted to go again. They are the best in the world, nobody can march and play like the Royal Marines, so smart.
But in this, they are getting their own back, for the Royal Navy's performance of the Flank Reduction Movement during the Coronation. Marines don't like sailors getting one up on them.......

Was brought up in Southsea...my mum used to walk me and my brother past Eastney Barracks in a pram ...often saw the massed bands of the Royal Marines in full uniform playing and parading along the promenade...this was in the early 1950's...still remember it to this day and I'm now 72!
as an ex para a lot of years ago , drinking from 8pm till 4am 1 hours sleep then at 5am somebody used to put on the marching band music , now if this dont motivate you nothing will . top class musicians this band is top notch highly impressive .

Quite simply these marches give me to goosebumps, and leave me feeling grateful beyond words to live in Great Britain. A peaceful display through music from the British military is a reflection of the centuries old traditions. Long may they continue.
Piers this is the first time I saw this footage. How you did it I don't know, to get the sound right and a steady picture. You enhanced the Royal Marines performance. Thanks for posting.

Because its verboten now for Brits and English to be Proud of their heritage, culture and have patriotism in case times of war, it slowly being indoctrinated, Bred and washed out, generation by generation.... Thats probably why, its a criminal shame...

Well, nobody wants to be in the army, let alone die for it. So unless you have few hundred thousand 6 footers you can send their way, they are going to get any man they can
Love your military terminology. Makes you look more idiotic than you possibly are. As you’re not a military bandsmen I am not surprised at your supreme ignorance.
Most of those bands men and women are multi instrumentalists. I have seen them pull out the violins and violas and deliver string quartet music or give it the full rock and roll at wedding receptions!
i understand the drum section in synch. what amazes me is the guys with the twirling batons or whatever in perfect synch. seems to me one would be twirling one way at some time or another. but, they are masters at their trade.
Wear that uniform and you are wearing 350 years of history and tradition. And bare in mind that all these band members are fully serving soldiers as well.
Wonderful. Please can someone explain (1) why the drummers continue moving sticks up and down even when silent (other instruments don’t pretend to blow etc when silent); (2) the guy in the leopard skin doing the fancy stuff with the sticks - is this some tradition? Is he playing as well as twiddling? Thanks.
This comes from when drums where used to signalling orders on the battle field … the stick up was a break in words or orders . And the RM Bands have carried on the custom … on trooping the colour, there’s a part where the drummers call is performed … he ends with the sticks under the nose. And that’s the guards massed band
Answering question No 2 of yours: they are percussionists (not buglers) and play tenor drums. The twirling of the mallets is called flourishing and the drums are actually played, however, since the bass and side drums are way louder, the tenors can’t really be heard, which is why the flourishing is mainly for visuals. Depending on the programme, the tenor drummers may have proper drum sticks on the side of the drum.
It’s a matter of timing. The drumsticks are held there also to keep their hands ready rather than just just rest them on the drum. This would probably lead to mistiming in the start of the start up of them.😊
@@keithrudd8003 Rubbish! The silent drumming was an amalgamation of our stick work , from giving drum orders and flamboyance. There is no proof we ever gave signals other than the sound of the drum!
