That took me back to the early 70s although a lot has changed. Getting the bus from Droylsden, going through Ancoats then into Stevenson Square. Affleck's Palace, Tib Street, the old wholesale fruit, veg and fish markets, Shudehill looking for bargains. Going past the Express building on the way home and seeing the presses going, printing out the newspapers. Those were the days! Thanks for reviving the memories, Martin.
I'm from Manchester and about the same age as you (54, as of posting). North-east Manchester and the banks of the river irk were my adventure-playground as a kid. (whatever happened to adventure-playgrounds?) I also have personal memories of all the places in this video... tib st; the pet shop, the joke shop; band on the wall and all the other places. It's weird when I hear you talking about memories of growing up in manchester. You could almost be talking about my life.
of all your fab videos this one nearly made me cry, haven't lived in the north west for 10 years when I saw this I was instantly taken back to my youthful self, not called the orthern quarter then though, also took my daughter there when she was growing up, was great to see Tib street, we loved it there - Tib Street Chippy, the best place. I just might have to come back from North Yorkshire to spend a bit of time in Manchester again, but it might just be too sad. Thanks for all your wonderful videos, many, many great memories for me.
I forgot to mention i`m not one for this street art at times, but people like Tony Kelzo who portrait a reminder of past as a tribute of how it made us, and the journey to where we are now deserves praise. nice one Tony.
As a kid seeing the Manchester bright orange buses was well different on trips too Belle Vue Zoo, compared to Leeds Metro green/cream and red West Ridng buses lol
Another great look at Manchester. Tib st for me in the late 60's was full od pet shops, but I went there for the Army surplus stores. Lots of great junk, i can't remember how many combat jackets I bought there.
Hi, great video, I love Manchester - have lived here all my life!!! Spent most of my Saturdays as a kid in town - going to drama classes at the ragged school, then into town with my mum. My mum used to work at the top of Sunly tower - when she used to take me into her work I used to sit in the window looking at Piccadilly gardens, people watching!!! I found your video re the northern quarter and its art very interesting. I was surprised that you omitted two of the most important Manchester Art - pieces of mosaic that are areound
The express building is from the 30s!! Honestly I thought it was from the mid 1980s. Awesome video again Martin (loved like live stream on Sunday). Wow I just can’t get over how old it is. That’s some amazing design work that was way ahead of its time, it really looks like it’s from the 80s not 50 years earlier.
Only really seen Afflecks and Tib St when we park up on our way to Fred Aldous. Got to have a good mooch one day. Read about a lot of what you showed, remember the pet shops as a kid
I was a record peddler apostle. Remember the Bowie posters on the ceiling? I got some amazing imports from those lads circa 1983, and the greasy spoon on tib st was where I’d pore over my spoils over egg and chips. Martin, do you remember the barrow boys on church st, and church st records, too? Dug McLeod
Aah jeez Martin, it's the Manchester I remember & love. Band on the Wall, Tib St, Express Building. GMPTE orange & white buses, absolutely love it. Thanks so much!!
Brilliant! Brought back memories when I worked in Brownsfield mill from 1980 to 87 for a bedding company called Sleepdown textiles formerly Colanie stitchers, good times.
Thank you for this. I used to stay at the Brittania Hotel and had many happy nights at vt various bars in Tib Streeet and a few happy days buying stufff in Afflecks Palace
another great video martin, i used to meet my friend for lunch on tib street in the 50's when i worked on poland street at tootals, also my dad worked at avro;s in chadderton so it was nice to see where it all started in the 1900's..thanks so much.. beryl
Wow Martin,I have so many memories of this area.Tib Street,Shudehill, the record stalls on the corner of High Street and Cannon Street. Some of the artwork is amazing. My eldest brother Joe had a lighting shop on Great Ancoats Street for a long time,Ancoats Electric on the same block as Volmax.A great look into the past ,Thank you for posting
Thanks Martin the band on the wall I took my girl friend on our first date there in 1982 to see a friend of mine’s band playing who worked with me at Ferranti Oldham. We will be celebrating next year our 40 years together since the band on the wall thanks for the history love you videos they’re amazing. Cheers Carl & Julie from Middleton now living in Pembrokeshire 👍
Fantastic Martin all about Manchester salford like this av roe home in patricroft and nasmyth,s hammer 250 yards then in the middle the queen arm's with had a visit from Queens Victoria so must history
I've always loved the Express Building, it's hard to believe it'll be 100 years old in not too long. The seats on those orange GM busses were so comfortable. High backed and thickly cushioned, so much better than the awful hard seats and no legroom you get now on public transport.
Remember Tib Street with all the pet shops, remember the Band on the Wall in the seventies, remember going to Black Sedan on Oxford road for bootleg album some of which I still have, they opened a branch in Rochdale that didn't last to long.Came back to Manchester two years ago after twenty five years, sorry the heart has gone,I know cities have to develope but sadly the city that taught me my engineering skills that allowed me to work round the world is a place I will never return to.
I worked at the Express/Daily Star in that building.I was a messenger for the Star in 1983/4.Brings back good memories.Made my connections to all over Manchester by working there, with lots of other young lads from around our city.Warren Dermody from the group,"Northside" worked with me.Lovely lad.All the messengers were.
Steve Morris of the Band on the wall was my mam’s uncle. I used to go to the band on the wall fairly regularly in the mid to late eighties and one night Steve Morris was there so I went over to him and introduced myself. I explained who I was to him. He basically said “ oh right “ and walked off. No free pints for me and my mates that night. And I loved the joke shop on Tib street. It also sold and hired fancy dress costumes. My mates and me would go their first on a Saturday afternoon and buy blood capsules and stink bombs. Always saving a few stink bombs to let off on the bus on the way home. Happy happy times. I really really enjoyed this video. I still love hanging out around the Northern Quarter when I get chance. Still a great area to go and have a coffee or a bite to eat or a few drinks. And of course Aflecks palace. Cheers.
Hi Martin, I used to work with Gerard Tyson on the Highways Dept, his Dad ran The Band on the Wall on Swan St, I met Ged in Ashton U Lyne town Centre a few years ago, I also rekerbed & re paved Tib St with Relaying The Iron Kerb which was a first for any of our lads.
Even though this video is ancient in TH-cam terms - just stumbled upon it lovely Martin and it was a fab video. You have wonderful memories of your youth! Thank you for letting us in on them. Cheers.
Another amazing post. I'm a big fan, would love to catch you in action one day. Keep them coming. I'm loving learning more about Manchester, it's emotional!
Great vlogs about Manchester where I have only been on a few occasions. Shows, as you say, the quirky places which are so much better and easy to remember. Keep them coming Martin and thank you.
Another class video Martin, I try to take in the Northern Quarter / Ancoats / Castlefield / Pomona as much as I can on my cycle commute each week so I've gotten to know all these areas but it's good to know a little history of them. It's a pity you didn't film the reflection from the footbridge over the canal at New Islington basin, it reads, Cast No Shadow although I guess the light has to be just right to fully view it. Great history regarding Anita street and Band on the Wall. Such a shame about Lindas cafe, been in there a couple of times since my wife has worked at Piccadilly station so we must try and get down there one last time soon!!! Finally, I love all the Kelzo artwork, it's so distinctive and his "nod" to the old orange n brown GM buses is fantastic, I remember them well. Kelzo has recently completed a big commission in Salford on the site of the new Littleton road flood defence, you should check it out (I'm sure it'll be on his website) ....it's on the site of the old Manchester (errr Salford!) racecourse at Kersal I've got a few shots of it myself which I should really post up on Instagram, it really is an impressive collection of streetart depicting the local history....Great work Mr Kelzo. Thanks for the video Martin...keep 'em coming mate. Dave.
Hi Dave hope your well. I never knew about that reflection, I will have to take a look. Spent the weekend though trapsing all round those bloody streets 😀 Yeah Kelzo I love his stuff too. He told me about that Salford Project I must get over that way. When you say Race course was that Castle Irwell student village ? Anyway thanks Dave
Brilliant videos Martin, I'm a mancunian like yourself and the older I get the more fascinated iam about the history of Manchester and man don't we have some fantastic history, the more I learn the more I'm impressed, and watching your videos have taught me more about our fantastic city we love. Keep the videos coming Martin.
Hi Martin great video..... I used to spend a lot of my time in the record shop on swan street in the early 80s great times. The northern quarter still holds the heart and soul of Manchester.
Another great production Martin. I still love wandering around the Northern Quarter on a Saturday afternoon. The place has a fantastic vibe about it. We normally have a 'rice n three' at This n That, a small cafe tucked away on Soap Street that has been there for over 30 years and serves up the most delicious curries in Manchester! I remember the joke shop on Tib Street very well and used to buy my blood capsules from there! It was nice to see the old Smithfield Market facade included too...my Grandad worked there all his life. Keep up the good work :)
Oh wow I didn’t know that about Band on the Wall - I spent a lot of my youth in there - band on the wall is being expanded - another excellent video - fully watched as always - a like from me 👍👍
my dad was a bus driver in Manchester. I remember the horror when Leyland Atlatean buses came in. Forward steering, doors and no guard ! Then CELNEC , Orange, not red ! Great video as ever.
Great video. My Grandad worked for Avro and the one at Chadderton/Miles Platting. Can’t remember now. But he used to work in the Lancaster Bomber there.
Another brilliantly put together video Martin,my first school was on George Leigh st which runs parallel with anita st.fond memories of the joke shop and pet shop on tib st and to round it all off with asleep by the smiths👍keep em coming mate.
Glad I subscribed to this channel it makes me even more priud to be a Manc. Gutted to find out about Linda's pantry I had a top brekkie in there a couple of years ago. Great bids keep em coming 🐝
Thanks great video love seeing my hometown, a manc born and bread but now living in London I do come back home every now and then but it is really nice to watch a video of home I know all of those streets like the back of my hand thanks so much
Very good Martin. Music was evocative and absolutely fitted the subject. I learn so much from your videos - please keep them coming. I’d love to watch a detailed series on “underground Manchester”
Hi John thanks so much for watching. Yep I did agonise over the music, glad it worked. I love Underground Manchester John, believe me if I get access to anything or learn anything you will be the first to see it in a video. Underground stuff is hard to gain access though. See what I can do 👍
Martin Zero the secrecy surround guardian and various other UG locations across our amazing city is intriguing to say the least. But your right and for obvious reasons the various owners don’t want just any body running round down there. If you get access to any locations I’ll offer myself up to hold the torch! ...looking forward to the next video...
Absolutely fantastic. I remember the joke shop Tib st. Used to go on Saturdays with my best mate Dennis. Be in there for ages. But fake blood, plastic " fang " teeth, & stink bombs. My mums Uncle Steve was a co owner of Band on The wall. He played Saxophone . My Uncle David worked at the daily express building . I have such fond vivid memories of that part of Town. Thank you so much for this wonderful video.
Great film Martin this is my favourite part of Manchester there is a great market one a month in Stevenson sq once a month and a lot of the art is changing at the moment
Ha.... brilliant! had to stop half way, ... I remember it as the pet n joke shop street, I remember it stunk a bit. You could buy anything from a goldfish to.a python !!!! And usually went home with a box of stink bombs !!! 😂 Second half : wow.... some great artwork, so, so many memories and emotions when I watch your stuff Martin, I'm sure I'm nor alone. Fabulous ! Roj
Great informative vid as usual.....as a postie, I used to do the 'Pomona round' in the 80's. Lots of little businesses hanging on for dear life as well as Stanton Stavely(manholes) and English Abrasives(sandpaper). On the second delivery there were lots of friendly pubs at the start of the round and by the time I got to The Star I would be very 'tired'. Dont know how many are left these days....have you done a vid of that?🍻🍻
Ah yes, the Saturday afternoon record hunt. We seem to have lived parallel lives across the ocean. We had Dr.Disc to find our 80's vinyl. Great times! Feeling so edgy and cool. Thanks for reminding me, now I can drive my wife and kids nuts with old stories! Ta!
Thanks Martin, brought back some memories of my childhood, being local ( Miles Platting ) until 77 then up to Openshaw, we were taken to Tib St every week, the pet shops and joke shop like you said, but not forgetting New Cross Army Surplus in the 80s. There was also a Martial Arts Shop on Swan St in the 80s, we could buy anything back then, nunchucks, throwing stars etc, age and I.d. wasn’t an issue. The canal next to Brownsfield Mill was our playground. I was in Tib St and other parts of the NQ last week photographing the Art Work, there’s a lot around Spear Street. Look out for Qubek, he does plenty of murals and amazing graffiti. Love Tony Kelzo’s work too
Martin Zero yes I noticed, I need to get the train to Victoria from Bolton next time and get off a stop early. There’s a pice by Tony on the platform at Salford Central
Another top video i love the old buildings my dads boss had a small lock up on port st where i used to wash and mind cars in the holidays happy days sadly it been demolished now
So interesting and informative as always but love this video in particular because of the art. It is sad that little independent places like Linda's Pantry have to close. During the last thirty or more years, all of the independent coffee houses I used to go to and show my art have closed here in Arizona, USA. Such as The Bean Tree, Mighty Cup and Spoon and so many others.
Another item attracted my attention. It was the part about A.V.Roe building Lancasters for assembly out at Woodford. In 1952 I was in the Air Training Corps and from May to August in 1952 I went to Woodford every weekend learning how to fly gliders. At that time the Lancaster programme had finished and AVRO was building Shackletons which were parked around the airfield. The other plane they were building at Woodford was the Vulcan and we saw it in a hangar before it was public knowledge and we were told not to repeat what we had seen. We were at Woodford on a few occasions when gliding had to be postponed while the Vulcan was taken up for a test flight.
Oh yes the 256 bus from Manchester to Stretford to Flixton many times travelled on that and also the 192 to Stockport in the 80s and 90s. And i got my Dog Lassie from Tib street pet shop in 1977. Gee im old. I wonder if the A and N store is still there too. I must take a walk down amnesia lane this spring time. Great Vid Martin. 😊
Another great video Martin, the wife and myself used to visit the pubs in that area most weekends, happy days. The building next to the Express referred to by Brian Smith is the Derros building.Built in 1899 it was the Methodist Women's Night Shelter.Apart from providing accommodation there was a coffee tavern on the ground floor. It has now been converted into flats.
No, it's the building with the black and white top storey on the corner of George Leigh street. Keep up the good work, that video brought back a lot of happy memories. Thanks
I just discovered your videos. Martin Zero, but I´ve seen a couple before now but this is the best yet. Really professional and of course to me a bit sentimental being in Manchester in the 80s and realising it´s another city now, but yet it´s still there. Getting a little nostalgic but happy to follow your videos. Would have to go see Manchester again. 25 years ago since latest I visited from Sweden now. //Hans
Great video, nice personal history there. I lived in the NQ last year and loved it loads, miss it so much. Had no idea Avro started in that old mill! Passed it all the time in the way to Aldi!
Ahh yes Aldi on the retail park 😃To be honest Lee I never knew either, I think I stumbled across the info and then the blue plaque confirmed it. Bet it was great living in NQ 👍
Great vid! I was in Afflecks on Monday having a needle poked through my ears! My kids like visiting the Anime shops. It's a great part of the city & long may it remain quirky.
Just stumbled upon your channel by accident. Great content, I love local history. I like to visit Manchester especially Afflecks and the NQ. I must get some photos of the amazing graffiti.
Great video! Been watching your videos about Manchester and it's making me so excited to move there in a couple months! Such a beautiful city plus the amazing people who attracted me. Love the Asleep cover at the end.
Great video as always Martin tib street when I was a kid was all petshops plus the joke shop and an army and navy shop very different from what it is now but still great to see it
Great video Martin, lots of interesting historical facts also. Well done for making the video look so glossy too. Didn’t see one bit of the negative side of that area. It makes me so sad, and angry sometimes visiting Manchester in those areas...
Another great video. Seems there is so much history hidden right under our noses. Guess the same could be said for many places. All about digging about and doing the research :-)
You should pop in the Ancoats lad. Pub on Oldham street , a lot of old Ancoats people in there on a Sunday afternoon, the stories you will hear are brilliant
My late dad showed me the Express Building and told me about the massive newspaper presses with the enormous rolls of paper they used. The presses would start at about 10pm and you could see them through the windows. I remember he took me to see them once when I was a kid.
orange buses for me too, the leyland atlantean era (the bus on right). great video with excellent audio and visual mixing. i really need to visit the city its been a few years since i last did, the artwork is amazing, i will try and go this year and probably get the train in. regards.
Thank you for using my music Martin! lovely video, I liked the part about the record peddler :D
Thanks very much. Yes Record Peddler a record shop close to my heart. Your music made the video special. Thank you 👌
@@MartinZero
at the end it sounds like sing me to sleep. nice.
Wow I love your music in this video, where are these tracks? dont seem to be on your channel.
Your music is wonderful
You need a spot on ITV prime time “Manchester with Martin” really cool video mate!
Hi Gary thanks so much. ITV prime time I'd be too nervous, I'd be shit 😆😂👍
Thanks Clair, great memories
I'm from Manchester and about the same age as you (54, as of posting). North-east Manchester and the banks of the river irk were my adventure-playground as a kid. (whatever happened to adventure-playgrounds?) I also have personal memories of all the places in this video... tib st; the pet shop, the joke shop; band on the wall and all the other places. It's weird when I hear you talking about memories of growing up in manchester. You could almost be talking about my life.
Single handed effort bringing Manchester to global attention - keep up the blinding work mate!!

Hi Martin, I enjoy this video so much that I have just watched it twice.
Really interesting history, I love the street art and the music.
Tib street at night were packed with ladys of the night back in the day. As a manchester lad I am loving these videos, great vid.
Thank you very much
Another belter Martin, the Northern Quarter is one of my favourite places to wander around on my days off, so much history around there.
Cheers Tony. Yep lots of streets to get lost in
Aah jeez Martin, it's the Manchester I remember & love. Band on the Wall, Tib St, Express Building. GMPTE orange & white buses, absolutely love it. Thanks so much!!

The seats on those orange GM busses were so comfortable. High backed and thickly cushioned, so much better than the awful hard seats and no legroom you get now on public transport.
I used to get the 256 bus from Davyhulme to Stretford precinct and go to John Menzies to buy records and Sinclair Spectrum games on tape.

Brilliant Terry. Ernie Tyson's son ? Yeah I love that Iron kerb 😀

Thank you Martin ! I love to spend time in the Northern Quarter my self .
It is full of character the Northern Quarter.
Stepped into Martin's Manchester Time Tunnel and found myself at this offering. Super job...you should be on TV :)
Thank you, glad you enjoyed
Another amazing post.
I'm a big fan, would love to catch you in action one day.

Hi Martin great video..... I used to spend a lot of my time in the record shop on swan street in the early 80s great times. The northern quarter still holds the heart and soul of Manchester.
Paul you went in Record Peddlar !!!? Yep NQ is a great place
Yes used to buy all my rare jam singles/imports from there.
Great little shop wasnt it 👍
love your videos mate especially as I am now wheelchair bound and can't get around there myself :)
Thanks very much 👍🏼
Another brilliant vid Martin, btw, the Lancaster bomber, That was one of AVROES!?
The Avro blue plaque was very interesting. Amazing to find a triplane on the top floor.

Oh wow I didn’t know that about Band on the Wall - I spent a lot of my youth in there - band on the wall is being expanded - another excellent video - fully watched as always - a like from me 👍👍
Cheers Nathan, yeah has it got another grant ?
Awesome video Martin, NQ is my favourite area of Manchester. Thanks bud.
Hi Matt, yeah me to, its still quite original, I do love angel meadow as well.
Wonderful Video Martin! You always amaze me
Bri!paint art thank you Martin. Another great Manchester advert
What a beautiful video. Watching it I feel very nostalgic of my own time living in wonderful Manchester. Thank you :-)
im so sorry martin that i have missed youre great vids, but catching up, great stuff mate every video, keep it up.
my dad was a bus driver in Manchester. I remember the horror when Leyland Atlatean buses came in. Forward steering, doors and no guard ! Then CELNEC , Orange, not red ! Great video as ever.
Thanks Alan
Alan BG - not contradicting you just asking a question - wasn't it SELNEC (South East Lancashire North East Cheshire)?
Clair Bliss Ha ! My typo type o’thing. I wondered how long it would take for someone to notice! You are correct of course.
Oh yeah George Leigh st that was where that old couple statue was in the video. Thank you very much Brian
Glad I subscribed to this channel it makes me even more priud to be a Manc. Gutted to find out about Linda's pantry I had a top brekkie in there a couple of years ago. Great bids keep em coming 🐝
Thanks very much Mark 👍
Omg what a fabulous video I loved it loved it makes me want too visit the northern quarter looks so cool.
Hi Kevster thanks very much. Yep great place
Love your stuff Martin and Tony's.
Really enjoyed another piece of history. Thanks x
Wonderfully informative , as always ...Thank you Martin..xx
Thanks Anne
A1 music was my Saturday day out
Used to love dreaming about all the possibilities that all the equipment & instruments could do! And then on to Johnny Roadhouse.
Thanks Christopher glad it brought back the memories 👍
Great film Martin this is my favourite part of Manchester there is a great market one a month in Stevenson sq once a month and a lot of the art is changing at the moment
Hi Brian, i've never been to that Market I need to go
Thanks Martin,
Great video, enjoyed Kelzo's input, great artist.
Ha.... brilliant! had to stop half way, ... I remember it as the pet n joke shop street, I remember it stunk a bit. You could buy anything from a goldfish to.a python !!!! And usually went home with a box of stink bombs !!! 😂
Second half : wow.... some great artwork, so, so many memories and emotions when I watch your stuff Martin, I'm sure I'm nor alone. Fabulous !
Ta!
Thanks John, Long Live Dr Disc 👌😄
Love Tony Kelzo’s work too
Hi Brian thanks very much. Yep Tonys work features on the thumbnail for this video
Martin Zero yes I noticed, I need to get the train to Victoria from Bolton next time and get off a stop early. There’s a pice by Tony on the platform at Salford Central
Brilliant Video. Thanks.
Thanks very much Paul 👍
It all keeps moving on and changing doesn't it
Another top video i love the old buildings my dads boss had a small lock up on port st where i used to wash and mind cars in the holidays happy days sadly it been demolished now
Thanks very much Ben
Very lovely video and fazit, i totally agree with you.
I remember Tib st well, It was always pet shops in my youth.
I went as a child and only have vague memories, then was there all the time in the 80's but most of the pet shops had gone
Wow Arnold, thats brilliant and of course the Vulcan went on to be legendary
That was absolutely brilliant!
Yeah the Army and Navy Store is still there 👍
Another banging video Martin my wife and me love spending time around there and you've added a bit more colour to it with this vid
cheers.
Thanks Malcolm much appreciated
Fantastic video- reminds me of my mis-spent youth trying to track down rare albums.
Keep up the good work mate 👍🏻
Hello, you and me both 😆😀👌 Thanks
Another great video Martin, the wife and myself used to visit the pubs in that area most weekends, happy days. The building next to the Express referred to by Brian Smith is the Derros building.Built in 1899 it was the Methodist Women's Night Shelter.Apart from providing accommodation there was a coffee tavern on the ground floor. It has now been converted into flats.
Hi Mike thank you. Is that the building between the crown pub ? and the Express building ?
No, it's the building with the black and white top storey on the corner of George Leigh street. Keep up the good work, that video brought back a lot of happy memories. Thanks
I just discovered your videos. Martin Zero, but I´ve seen a couple before now but this is the best yet. Really professional and of course to me a bit sentimental being in Manchester in the 80s and realising it´s another city now, but yet it´s still there. Getting a little nostalgic but happy to follow your videos. Would have to go see Manchester again. 25 years ago since latest I visited from Sweden now. //Hans
Thanks very much Hans. Glad you enjoyed. yes quite a few changes
Great memories thanks Martin !
Yes long may it remain the Quirk it is. You got your ears pierced ? I got my eyebrow pierced in 2000 👍😆
Just stumbled upon your channel by accident. Great content, I love local history. I like to visit Manchester especially Afflecks and the NQ. I must get some photos of the amazing graffiti.
Hello Steph. Thank you for stumbling upon me 😀 Yeah the Graffiti is good. You and me both love the history 👍
Legend. I'm spreading your videos. I work on Angel Square and I had to learn from my mum three years into it what the history was of the area.
Hello, thanks for spreading the word. Angel square is that the big Co op ?
One of your best yet Martin, fascinating.
Thanks very Much Lee. Much appreciated 👌
visited some of those record stores in May 2018 - love your channel Martin
Great video! Been watching your videos about Manchester and it's making me so excited to move there in a couple months! Such a beautiful city plus the amazing people who attracted me. Love the Asleep cover at the end.
Hello, thank you very much. Where are you moving from ? are you going to be living here permanent ?
No problem :) I'm moving from Exeter. I'm moving for Uni but I have plans to stay after because i've fallen in love with the city
Brilliant, well I hope you enjoy living here 😀
hi Martin
love the video
keep them coming
mark from Bolton
Hi Mark. Thanks a lot. More to come 😃
Great video as always Martin tib street when I was a kid was all petshops plus the joke shop and an army and navy shop very different from what it is now but still great to see it
Hi Steveo, yep loved the pet shops and joke shop, The Army and Navy store is still there
The joke shop became the first skateboard shop in Manc,Kryptonite wheels and Pegasus trucks circa 1977...drool....
Did I see a glimpse of Afflecks Palace or was it my imagination? Another wonderful vision of a not-so-distant past. Thanks. :)
Yeah I was in Afflecks Paul 👍
Really enjoyed this video. Hope to visit Manchester in search of industrial heritage when restrictions are lifted.
Cheers Jakko 👍
Great video Martin, lots of interesting historical facts also.
Well done for making the video look so glossy too. Didn’t see one bit of the negative side of that area.
It makes me so sad, and angry sometimes visiting Manchester in those areas...
Thanks Clay, there is plenty of run down stuff but wanted to keep it upbeat 😀
Great video Martin. Used to take the 256 bus.
Another great video. Seems there is so much history hidden right under our noses. Guess the same could be said for many places. All about digging about and doing the research :-)
Yeah history everywhere and the annoying thing is I bet I miss loads of stuff all the time
You catch way more that the typical person these days walking about with their face stuck in their phone :-) lol
You should pop in the Ancoats lad. Pub on Oldham street , a lot of old Ancoats people in there on a Sunday afternoon, the stories you will hear are brilliant
Just watched this video, brilliant, well done and thank you.
Thomas, thank you very much for watching. Really pleased you liked it 👌
My late dad showed me the Express Building and told me about the massive newspaper presses with the enormous rolls of paper they used. The presses would start at about 10pm and you could see them through the windows. I remember he took me to see them once when I was a kid.
Its a great building
orange buses for me too, the leyland atlantean era (the bus on right). great video with excellent audio and visual mixing. i really need to visit the city its been a few years since i last did, the artwork is amazing, i will try and go this year and probably get the train in. regards.
Hi Nik, remember the Old Mancunians to. Middle exit doors 😀Yeah come over give us a shout
