Graces definitely gets way too much undeserved hate. One of my favorites too I recommend Zestiria then. Another favorite with graces. Both are very similar. I personally think Zestiria is a sort of upgrade from graces. Everything i loved about graces Zestiria just improves on it better. In almost every way
I own it for ps3, but still preordered it. Graces F is one of my favorites in the entire series. I'd love to go through it on ps5 just for the second set of trophies. Be a joy to play again.
glad to see they did a MUCH better job with this than the Symphonia remaster… I don’t remember the story super well but I do remember enjoying this game quite a bit on PS3, so looking forward to playing it on PS5!
@@medicalpotion I mean...they did? At least Symphonia 1's content anyway...if you mean why we didn't get a remaster with both Symphonia and Dawn of a New World I've no clue but Symphonia Remastered is more or less an even further upscaled port of Symphonia PS3 which was based off Symphonia PS2 in regards to all new content...the only new 'content' the PS3 added were the Tales cameo costumes for pre-ordering the game or having save data of Graces F/the Xillias (forget if it was dlc or a bonus unlocked via save data of other Tales games) and that's it. The frames are the same as PS3/PS2 (30 fps as the PS2 couldn't handle 60 when it was ported there so they apparently re-animated the game and tied said animations to 30 fps which was why many 60 fps mods ended up causing the character models to twist their limbs around/heads around/etc when modded), the translation is the same (both PS3 and remastered ports have parts cut off that shouldn't be in some parts of the game such as when first meeting Remiel there's a few lines that got cut out from GC on PS3/later consoles and PC (maybe modders fixed that), removal of the black outline on characters, etc all exist on PS3 to modern console versions of Symphonia as they all use the PS2 as a base instead of GC so all technical sides are tied to what the PS2 could do, not the GC version which on a technical side was superior to the PS2 version (which is why people still say GC is the best way to play Symphonia...outside ot the translation issue however either way is fined for me...30 fps and 60 fps are barely discernable unlike what most people claim (those that do probbly have a frame counter on the side of their screen and pay too much attention to it over the games they play as long as the game doesn't chug/have obvious slowdown (1 to 3 second delays) it's fine). As for why they went with PS2 over GC it's likely due to them knowing if they didn't port the PS2 exclusive content over (a few quests, costumes, mystic artes for all characters, expanded floors to EX dungeon, and a few other things) they'd have gotten backlash for that too and as for not going for 60 fps on it it's likely due to the fact they found it impossible/not likely worth the cost of possibly needing to re-animate everything to make it work. Honestly the biggest issue with Symphonia Remastered for me was the Switch's specific performance issues (PS4/5/etc didn't have said issues) and the price of the game as Steam had already released the game day 1 at $20 so it should've released no higher than that and preferably a bit lower ($15 for instance)...at $40 Dawn of the New World should've been in the package tbh but why they refused to do that is anyone's guess.
@@ifrit1937they ported the PC version which while based on the PS3 had a lot of bugs introduced that weren’t on that version. It’s a sonic adventure situation where every re-release got progressively worse.
I remember being disappointed that the Wii version never came outside of Japan, had to wait until 2012 until they finally release it on PS3. A theory I have is because around the early 2010's, the western rpgs were dominating at the time and Jrpgs were decreasing in popularity in the states. Tales of Xillia had no plans to release in the states at first, we had to beg Namco to releases these games which, fortunately they did and proved them that we still play these games too.
Great review. I played it on the PS3 and really enjoyed it. I sold it after finishing it and was sorry a few years later. I'm glad it's accessible again, and I look forward to giving it another go. Tales of Berseria is still my all-time favorite, but this one is absolutely worth the time.
It's funny you say that. I played Burseria first, after hearing some not great things about Zesteria. After finishing Burseria, and finding out Zesteria was later in the timeline, I tried it. I've played both twice, and enjoyed them. Could do without the huge open areas in Zesteria, but otherwise I had very few issues with what I care most about in gaming: the narrative. Edna's still one of my favorite Tales characters. Arise IS good though. Played that one twice as well. I don't often play RPGS twice, so that says something.
Still very much "Group of teens beat God with the power of friendship," but I felt like Tales of Graces F had a pretty solid cast and if you want to see all the skits there are a TON of extra side things to do.
@@StudioFocus-hh7dxI don’t think you know how fps work…. Just a heads up for anyone coming into this with the preconceived notion from hearing how good the combat system is: it IS. But the first hour or two will feel slow, plodding, and repetitive. Thats kind of by design, youre literally children swinging sticks 😂 it takes a bit of time but it becomes highly skill expressive and you can NOT button mash this game. Youll get absolutely blasted. Another thing. Dualizing will make you want to rip your hair out going for some of the best gears. Especially at higher refinementa/upgrade levels. But its as addictive as atelier synthesizing for that very reason. The game has a ton of depth, so just stick with it.

Tip for people: unless you plan to GRIND it out hard-core, don't bother dualizing gear till you get the end game weapons or if you wanna take their certain weapons to the end game. Reason being gear can go to level 99 which takes MANY hours, and the gear you obtain as the story goes will suit you well enough, but also if you like the look of a single gear piece like Asbel's initial sword, you can keep leveling it up to use it from start to finish. My favorite is symphonia. Hence the username. Vesperia is my second favorite. I'm willing to give this one a chance. The voice acting is making me disinterested. I'm hoping the plot is worth it.
ok first of all ........ Royal Crabletts. Ok so I played this originally on the PS3. Loved it back then. Love the characters. I personally think combat is better With tales of Beseria. Now an issue I'm Running into that i never dealt with on the ps3 is dealing with combat. That slime boss where he was barely doing any damage to it. I wiped it out in 3 seconds on Moderate. That confuses me a bit cause What I'm having an issue with is that basic baddies that run away from me will hit me while I'm blocking with 2 to 3 times my max HP with one hit. So at one point I decided to drop it to normal. same issue just not as sever but still they will hit with more damage then I have max HP but I can one shot most of these guys also. I haven't touched hard mode cause I'm afraid they will wipe my party out before the fight starts with how ridicules this is. It was not like this on the ps3 version. I could fight on the hardest difficulty which was a challenge but everything wasn't one shotting. Seams like the balancing may be way off. What makes moderate really any different from normal if in both they can just one shot you. have top gear have been actively working on my titles. This is the PS5 version. I don't know if this issue is being seen on other systems. Edit: I figured out the mistake I made. Yes while I complained up there It was all my fault not the games. This is why you don't set up your settings in the Grade shop while your half asleep High or drunk. I had Double Damage and Double Crit active. This doesn't just double your damage and crits but the enemy's also. I'm leaving my first part so people can see how stupid I was but it may also may help someone who didn't realize they made the same mistake as I.
If you want combat to be enjoyable, you'll need CC. The plus combo chain options in the grade shop should be the first thing bought. They should've touched up on the system since you won't be able to consistently use last arte chains until around end game or new game plus. It's too much of a chore.
I recommend Zestiria if not yet. Imo it does almost everything I enjoyed about graces even better. The only thing that comes to mind off the top of my head is the dualizing missing. Which just gets replaced in another unique way
@omarmks6670 yea I've played it, it didn't do it for me. The only other tales game that I thought was almost as good as graces was Berseria. But even that I was like "ehh tales got really edgy" lol
Was a good game, granted only beat it 1x back on PS3 due to getting ticked whenever I played it as after i beat it and was in the middle of a 2nd run my sister and cousin wound up playing the game while I was asleep and wound up saving over my only save file (at the time I only used 1 save file...after that incident I had always made at least 3 save files in case that happened again or a save file got corrupted). Gonna pick it up again on Switch so I can play in handheld mode this time (hoping it works well there and doesn't have similar issues to Symphonia Switch which had multiple issues or even Vesperia Switch which had crashing issues on its release month for a while until a later patch (need to go back and finish that run too)). Only other issue I'll need to deal with is the BS stick drift as always (I really hope Switch 2 fixes that issue or at least makes it something that will take a much longer time to pop up and not occur in just a year of using the controller like the current Switch 1 joycons). It's not my favorite in the series (still Symphonia after 20 years) but it's around 6th or so...biggest issue Graces has for me is I'm not that much of a fan of arte trees due to needing to go through the previous artes/other actions in Zestiria/Berseria before getting to a specific arte you want in the arte tree. Granted Graces (and Zestiria) has the old classic inputs too via O on PS3 controller/likely the right face button with default controls when it gets ported though depending on the character it'll be for heavier/slower but more powerful attacks or spells in the case of spellcasters or Hubert's ranged attacks if I remember right (last time I played was back around 2012/2013 so could be wrong of course with that last bit). With that said the combat still blows a lot of other action combat systems from other non Tales action rpgs out of the water (easily all of Square Enix developed action rpgs for one) so it's not a bad system, I just prefer the older direction stick plus arte button inputs more as it feels like I have more control over the character at all times...Arise kinda allows this as it removes the arte trees but limits the amount of artes you can quickslot in to 12 max when you get the artes ball (6 without it). Also not 100% sure if I'm happy with the price either...for 12.5 or so years old of a game it probably should be around $25 to $30 even with all the dlc attached...granted it's still a fairer price than Symphonia Remaster's $40 on release as that game was already on Steam for $20 since day 1 on PC and didn't have Dawn of the New World included like the PS3 Chronicles version (which sold for $60 on release (though I went with the $100 Collector's edition) so Symphonia Remastered should've only been $20 max if not less (especially given all the issues it had on launch on Switch...even with it being my favorite game I couldn't buy it on launch due to that).
I have the PS3 Graces f from back when and I Just wanna know how well the Switch version handles. I have it pre ordered and shipping as we speak. I may swap it for a PS5 version
This remaster being shocked me. What shocks me even more is that they tried so hard with the content & battle system. Something later Tales games unfortunately couldn't exactly match. I hope Arise success will teach Bamco to try a whole lot more from now on.
It gets undeserved hate but if you ask pretty much any fan absolutely none of them will say the gameplay is bad Graces is like dragonball gt. People will hate on it but be hypocrites and say something else about it was done really well. For dragonball gt that would be super Saiyan 4 design lol
Ng+ is exactly the same as the og. The only difference is you have access to the grade shop at all times throughout the playthroughs, allowing you to toggle things as you like (for example, turning on double damage for grinding then turning it off again) Grade does reset every playthrough though, like the OG. So you won't have x10 exp from moment one... unless you use the dlc for it.
I know it's about gameplay but damn I couldn't play one these now I use to when I was 15,maybe perosna but there's just remind me of my jrpg days grandia2,chrono cross etc
just a heads up to anyone considering getting it on switch: the switch version is actually a downgraded playstation 3 version because the PS3 had 60fps in battles but the switch only has 30fps. Why you drop a spoiler from nowhere like that!!!! I'm about to start the remaster (in 2 days!!)
That's hardly a spoiler for the game since it happens right after the prologue and is on Bandai's own description of the narrative
ok first of all ........
Can we expect a new tales game announcement this year??
Was this reviewed on switch or something else?
Easily the best tales games combat wise.
does it support haptic trigger feedback?
If you want combat to be enjoyable, you'll need CC. The plus combo chain options in the grade shop should be the first thing bought. They should've touched up on the system since you won't be able to consistently use last arte chains until around end game or new game plus. It's too much of a chore.
Huh, gear stacking isn't used that much in games. I remember Two Worlds (another RPG) using it as well. It is a fun system, not much seen.
did bro say he wasnt fond of abyss or vesperia?

Top comment sucks.
First reply to top comment sucks more.😂
Second reply suck as well
Third reply to top comment sucks more.😂
Sorry this comment sucks....
@@MrHous26 well damn this really sucks 🤣
Switch or Steam Deck?
My first tales game, and sadly the only one I like. I've played at least 5 at this point, but none hit the note quite like this one
But even that I was like "ehh tales got really edgy" lol
never forget gaming bolt gave starfield a 10.
yeah. Its a fun game that is worth playing
@@joshuafranklin8599 hahahahahaha
Yes. It's called an opinion. People have them. Welcome to earth I guess?
@@aizentaicho82 yep that's why I responded that I agreed
Thats good I have a copy coming
Is the blue haired brother stull broken?
I have the PS3 Graces f from back when and I Just wanna know how well the Switch version handles. I have it pre ordered and shipping as we speak. I may swap it for a PS5 version
I would have loved to have this on a Nintendo Switch but I am done with 30 FPS. This is a Wii title, how this is not running at 60 FPS is beyond me.
This remaster being shocked me. What shocks me even more is that they tried so hard with the content & battle system. Something later Tales games unfortunately couldn't exactly match. I hope Arise success will teach Bamco to try a whole lot more from now on.
Tales of Berseria battle system is amazing
@@DigitalMaru lol.
Tales of Arise wishes its combat was half as good as Graces
12 out of 10 imo.
Never played graces f but played symphonia , xillia , xillia 2 , vesperia , berseria, zesteria , tales of arise.
How’s this one rate in peoples eyes?
Best combat out of all tales games IMO
Best combat in the series
easily the best combat and gameplay in the series. Story is great
It gets undeserved hate but if you ask pretty much any fan absolutely none of them will say the gameplay is bad
Graces is like dragonball gt. People will hate on it but be hypocrites and say something else about it was done really well. For dragonball gt that would be super Saiyan 4 design lol
Is there new game plus? It looks like u don’t earn grade in this vs original
Yes
Ng+ is exactly the same as the og. The only difference is you have access to the grade shop at all times throughout the playthroughs, allowing you to toggle things as you like (for example, turning on double damage for grinding then turning it off again)
Grade does reset every playthrough though, like the OG. So you won't have x10 exp from moment one... unless you use the dlc for it.
@@godsplayingfield as long as i can wait till new game plus use grade shop nice. It been nice to earn grade also versus having it unlocked all options
@@noneya237you can pretty much new game plus from the start essentially
@@noneya237 ng+ is enabled immediately since a lot of people already played through it on emulator or ps3 so saves time.
The combat is too simple for me, but I'm glad fans of the franchise are getting something.
Cant wait for people to find that special person fight then and think they won just to instantly get exploded on
Is the Hatsune Miku costume available? If not, o don't want anything 😭😭😭
I know it's about gameplay but damn I couldn't play one these now I use to when I was 15,maybe perosna but there's just remind me of my jrpg days grandia2,chrono cross etc
Good tales
Great game
The card gane is how you got some the costumes in ps3 version but took like 4 playthroughrms cause you could only get one pur playthrough
Dope ass game, frfr
W update this game should be interesting
i really hope u can turn off the destination maker ..dont like this hand holding features now ah days
Thankfully you can
Little misinformation try Manual mode
9:46 wtf was that spoiler? Could've warned us
Nah, characters come to that assumption at the very start. Twists come later on in the story
just a heads up to anyone considering getting it on switch: the switch version is actually a downgraded playstation 3 version because the PS3 had 60fps in battles but the switch only has 30fps. They cut the battles performance in half and it added latency to the combat system. Beware. i would wait for a patch that puts 60fps back into this version before buying it.
it doesnt add any latency lol
@davidraquepas2344 it does. 30fps has a higher latency than 60fps
Tales of berseria Is still the best tales game ever made period I absolutely love it ❤
Traces is still the ONLY Tales game worth playing for me.
Xillia,Berseria,Arise,AbyssVesperia,Symphony, hello?😂

Damn the spoilers bro.
