i trained in boxing, kickboxing, and bjj. nothing boosts your confidence like boxing.
maybe that's because boxing is the most realistic martial art out there.
i never felt like bjj gave me that kind of confidence tbh

How much time did you give to BJJ? Also, how often did you compete to test your skill and learning within BJJ?

I trained for about 2 years in each.
And belleive me when you put in your mouth piece and trade leather with someone swinging punches at you it's way different than slapping hands and fist bumping and then pulling guard.
It feels like actual fighting and when you find yourself in a real confrontation you feel so confident like I got this if shit hits the fan.
I can't say the same about bjj, thank god.i started with boxing

@@adamzoubi96 I heard an interesting perspective on Joe Rogan’s podcast essentially saying that if someone puts their fists up to fight, you can just run away. But if they grab you and you don’t have any experience in Bjj, you’d be screwed. I think Bjj is the best for someone who isn’t expecting to get in random bar fights but more so to subdue a potentially dangerous person if there are others nearby. Still I think both are essential in competition.

I would recommend starting out in boxing. The reason why is because the jiu jitsu kid classes I seen aren't serious. It's like a day care. You have to rely on other children as training partners to a large extent. In boxing you can take the techniques you learned that day home with you and drill them yourself. Boxing is more 1 on 1. Your coach is directly explaining things to you individually. It's not day care based. It's a lot more simple to learn than boxing. The boxing kids classes are more serious. I think when they're about 14 or so then it's a good time to transition over.

Both you need both striking and grappling skills as self defender as well weapon skills

there's a reason wrestlers do so well in mma
and i agree with bruce lee boxing and wrestling are the the best martial arts to get good fast when it comes to real fights

Yes you are correct. Wrestling and boxing is the best combo for learning quickly. Less techniques, get good at them quicker, and it’s super effective for fighting. BJJ is great too of course but depending on what you learn. It’s about the fundamentals.

I also believe wrestling has an advantage for beginners because of the athleticism and intensity. BJJ is often taught in a methodical, slow paced chess match, which isn’t a fight. Wrestling, while technical, is explosive and fast paced.

@@Reddogg387 yes, i think blue belt in bjj is all you need if youre going beyond wrestling and boxing ( super practical in real life). in real fights it is best to avoid the ground at all costs esp if theres other people around. bjj can teach bad habits like making you think youre safe when your not really safe. that is why i say 1. wrestling 2. boxing 3. bjj blue belt (in that order) :) cheers mate!

Start with Muay Thai and if you keep training, so bjj. Judo is great but it’s a long term martial art. It takes years of training to be able to execute a good throw. You can pick up Muay Thai and wrestling or bjj faster. Learn your basic takedowns in wrestling first. Judo doesn’t have any leg grab takedowns lol. So it’s sweeps or throws and it can be extremely hard. Body lock takedowns and maybe a swing single are good basic takedowns you should learn first. Blast double too
