  • The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i looks like a normal premium Ultrabook when closed, but open it to reveal 2 high res OLED HDR 500 displays. Thanks to our sponsor Trend Micro's Premium Security Suite offers complete device and identity protection for up to 10 devices. Check it out here: bit.ly/422u6G7 and use code LISA10 (case sensitive) for 10% off your purchase! We’ve seen several iterations of dual screen laptops over the years, each with significant compromises or crazy price tags, but Lenovo has gotten it right. This is a slim and lightweight 13.3” laptop with an Intel Core i7 CPU, ample RAM and storage, a 5MP webcam and 2 identical 13.3” OLED displays supporting pen and touch. It has 360 degree hinges and can be used with the hardware keyboard resting on the lower display or placed anywhere on the desk you like. For those who normally need a portable or desktop secondary monitor, the Yoga Book 9i might be ideal. The laptop comes with a very stable folding stand (portrait and landscape modes supported), Lenovo Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and pen.

I use the Asus Zenbook Duo 14 on the daily - having two screens really does make a difference. I could see myself replacing my Zenbook with this in a few years - looks pretty cool! Thanks for yet another wonderful review, Lisa!

Yes the Asus Zenbook Pro Duo for me. Good power but this is only 16 gigs soldered so no go for me. Sad. Hope they make a powerful one. They got the screen concept right. Just need a jutting piece of it with people like us who need eGPU power.

Good review. There is a lot to like about this dual screen laptop. I use an extra display with my laptop, so being able to use two displays on the go without any extra components to carry is very appealing. The option of using the two panels in vertical mode is also appealing. Using the 9i in book mode could be very good provided the weight is not to much. A hands on test would easily confirm that. I would also like to see an SD card slot onboard which would eliminate ( for me ) having to carry an external dock. Once the final pricing is revealed along with an options then it be very close to the ideal laptop I didn't knpw I wanted. !!😊😊😊😊😊

I'd think I really love 😘 this! They just need to truly coordinate the colors... If you have the keyboard and the screens blue, you should really make custom colored pens and mice, especially if they come with it. Minor gripe, but this might be on my short list to look to buy.

I do a LOT of software demos where I have the software I'm demo-ing on one screen and my notes on another. I currently carry a second screen around as a digital nomad and its a PITA. I love this concept from Lenovo it looks amazing. The only thing I'd be worried about is transitioning from Mac to Windows.... Haven't used Windows in years...

That sounds really neat. What i usually struggle with on the go is a lack of screen real-estate for having multiple terminals or management front ends open at the same time.
Battery life is a bit concerning, but im very tempted to giving this a try. I hope they'll come up with a version that sports a less power hungry screen config tho.

This device is nearly tailor made for anyone working in education. Having a second screen for your notes, while being able to write on the other screen is a godsend. Right now most teachers I know use either two devices or print out their notes. Both of which is clearly inferior than this :D

Hopefully Lenovo will come out with other colors and maybe better processors. At least given the amount of communications going on it seems this laptop will actually come to market unlike the X1 Fold 16 which is nowhere to be found so it has been marketed but not come to market or any public facing communications as to what's going on. Great Review Lisa!

I'll probably end up getting a single screen laptop with more CPU/GPU and then use my Galaxy Tab S8+ as a second screen.
I'll look at Yoga Dual Screen in the 2nd or 3rd generation.
    QUESTION: where is the webcam?

  • @GearWave

This Yoga Book is phenomenal in its versatility and potential. This reminds me of a mutant Galaxy Z Fold. Awesome concept. Lenovo should make these for schools and work with Dept Of Education to develop a app based curriculum for ALL schools. This way kids dont have to carry all these books. Kids could access all their classes class and homework. Teachers could even send kids tests and grade results when away from class.
This Yogabook is a game changer man. Having two spoils you to where you wont be able to go back to a single screen. Thanks for sharing. Just picked one up and I LOVE it!

IMO, multiple screens is not an actual necessity. It's screen real estate that's the actual issue. Competent window snapping/tiling with the same amount of screen real estate can easily achieve the same results with less missing cursors. It reminds me of those old TV matrices that electronics stores would use that looked cool at first but got old about a minute later and made it feel like you were watching TV through a thick fence.

Hi Lisa -- thanks again for a very helpful, professional, and reliable review. As always, you're preaching to the choir in that I'm an avid tech fan boy. Through some blind luck, I was able to order this from Lenovo on May 3rd and received my YogaBook 9i on May 23rd! (Since then it shows as "sold out" with more inventory in mid-June as you mentioned). In a word, it's amazing and a productivity powerhouse, especially for a road warrior. One question I have is about the bottom screen widgets. How did you get the weather widget to show up? I've looked over all user documentation and see no way to add/change the current 2 widgets of Outlook Calendar and MSN News.

I could buy an ASUS with the same spec, a 120Hz OLED portable display and still have change, and of course, none of the compromises of the Lenovo.
    Easy pass for me.

@@raychow5419 Thanks for replying. Glossy screens are a pet hate of mine. The screen refresh could be an issue depending on what people want to do with 9i. You are right about the value equation. I guess it’s a judgement call for purchasers as to what is more important screen realestate of cpu/gpu performance. One possibility that doesn’t seem to get a mention is whether the top screen could be setup to accept a video input. This could be particularly useful for photography where cameras with an hdmi output are hooked up to an external monitor. I do it with my cameras. Maybe the 9i needs further development to make the most of it’s potential and improve the value equation.

@@DJAYPAZ I highly doubt that it could receive an input signal but who knows. It's a first gen product that definitely could use better specs and probably will get an upgrade next year if this current one sells well. However, I got to hand it to Lenovo as a company that actually push out and take risk on releasing new ideas to the market.

I think it's cool but a little too much for my needs. I don't see myself using this on a plane or even a coffee shop. Seems more like it belongs in 2 screen form on my desktop and regular laptop mode everywhere else. In that case I would just get a second monitor. Instead for $690 I purchased the ZenBook duo and I love it. Two screens all the time while still keeping a usable laptop form factor. Having a second screen is fantastic but I don't need a second full screen. But I can see how this could be perfect for some.

Aaah!! Drawing on bottom screen or annotating pdf on bottom screen while taking notes in top screen with keyboard...
This is going to be ultimate productivity. Using stylus on single screen laptops is useless as its way to inconvenient to write in top screen or fold laptop while taking notes with keyboard just to annotate !!
Not to mention coding experience with two screens without external monitor.
I hope disassembly and fixing is not compromised !!!
Also won't lower screen get damaged by putting keyboard on top of it?

I'm still skeptical. When it's on the stand in a stacked screen config, there's no mouse. In a standard laptop position with dual screens, you're looking at the bottom screen from an awkward angle. And if you attach the keyboard to the bottom screen, what's the point?

    • @mobiletechreview
      @mobiletechreview  ปีที่แล้ว +3

You can use the included Bluetooth mouse, or you can bring up a floating on-screen trackpad wherever you like on either screen (though I'd rather use the Bluetooth mouse when the screens are in stacked mode).

I could see a future iteration of this using something similar to Samsung's folding screen from it's mobile phones. I think a lot of people would prefer having a folding screen rather than two separate screens.

Doesn't this device get SUPER hot. I understand wanting to operate a device at peak power, but not at the expense of getting 3rd degree burns. Some reviewers/owners of the device had complained of the heat.
