That feeling he talks about, about how the land breaths and watches, rural Florida has something like that.
It feels malevolent, like it knows you don't belong there. It is a place that has not been meddled with by man, and it is a land determined to remain so. At night, you see things, eyes at heights they shouldn't be at. Silhouettes that don't look right. People disappear with not so much as a footstep, pets and livestock are found torn in two.
If you ever visit, one word of advice.
Always stay close to your home...

I wonder how come California does not feel that way? I'm sure it has its parts, but for the most part, I wonder what ancient history has taken place in Florida that has given it such a primordial feeling.

So let's see if I got this right. The guy was sold land that did not match the description. His guide vanished, later found dead, one of his workers vanished and then the other one vanished looking for him. He discovers a strange creature when his hound breaks it's chain and dies. Then somehow the creature gets into the room the guy is sleeping and scratches him from ear-to-ear.
Boy this guy was stubborn, should have got while the getting was good. My outlook is he's most likely dead.

Question, how in the heck did he get 169 miles away directly south when he was supposed to be going Southwest?
Please from Atlanta right? I think so🤔 Because he says the land reminds him so much of Atlanta. Takes a train to Cheyenne, then we hear about the letter at the end saying thatthey hope her husband is found. Well that's in Colorado what's in the completely wrong direction and it's way way out of hiswait. Why would you take a train all the way to Cheyenne just to go 169 miles south?
