Great review Rob. I was very impressed with the abyss 4k. The colours really jumped out and the detail was amazing. I'm glad to have it on physical media. I'm in too minds on weather I like the movie or not through. Will need to give it another watch.
I thought it looked cracking, and yes technically it's not a classic restoration of the original 35mm neg but I like whatever Cameron has done here. And I disagree Rob, i think those additional 30 or so mins in the SE add a fair bit, especially towards the end. Watch the original cut to see the difference
Agree with you. The Abyss 4k is a great transfer and I think looks the absolute best it ever has. Aliens 4k was also excellent. When it comes to poor 4k transfers unfortunately T2 takes the biscuit! I’m looking forward to the original Terminator getting a 4k release
The composer of Predator and The Abyss is Alan Silvestri. A composer who does like their percussion and similar time so would be similar traits in their work. Not on a James Horner level but definitely has their sound. There's a lot a like about The Abyss but it does feel like the most flawed of James Cameron's work but also his most personal. Overall I like it and admire the sheer madness of actually shooting underwater like he did. Cameron always pushes cinema technology ahead every film and this one is one of the biggest leaps forward. A proper visionary. Looks and sounds hugely impressive on my 77" screen and 5.1.4 Atmos set-up.
The Abyss and Predator composer are actually the same, Alan Sylvestri, I didn'tknow until today I thought they were both James Horner maybe because James Horner did most of the James Cameron movies and he scored wolfen which has Predator vibes.
I am sick of these armchair Warriors claiming that these transfers are terrible I absolutely adore these three films and the job that Cameron did people are just too f****** picky
No. This movie is great. This transfer is bad. I hate what JC is doing with his old movies using AI instead of scanning the original negatives in 8K/6K as he should. Also the color revisionism is terrible.
I had no issue whatsoever with the disc.
I loved the image quality. Best it has ever looked.
Looks so natural and beautiful on my setup 😍🎥👌🏻👈🏻
Great review Rob.

Hi my friend. I personally like the added touch ups. I thought the Avyss was awesome 😎👍

The score is by Alan Silvestri... so your comparison to Predator is spot on... Same composer 😀
Thought it looked very good, and I was expecting the worst!
Don’t like your clickbait thumbnail though!
Yep..I thought it looked amazing as well…same with aliens.
Whats controversial? Why is there a thumbs down in the thumbnail? This video seems a little clickbaity 😐 I like your review, so why the clickbait?
Definitely thought it was the best of the james cammon releases by disney
Too much blue in the upgrade. Clarity is good no doubt. Dvd has a natural color I prefer

Alan Silvestri scored this and Predator.
I love this film! I love this release in 4K!
no issues loved it but truelies worst still best we can get aliens nice but little too clean imo =,(
Time to use IMDB - same composer as Predator - not T2 (Brad Fiedel)
You know the movie just doesn't hold up at all...remotely. That's the problem. Dialogue alone.
Why would anyone buy a movie that they didn’t like? Very strange......
Wow. Got that backwards. Great movie. Looks like crap. Park road secret sauce destroyed it. It doesn't even look like film anymore.
Why keep buying it if you don't like the movie? lol
