I was a big fan of Public Enemy when I was in high school in the 90's. They were incorrectly labeled "gangster rap" all the time, which couldn't have been further from the truth. They were SOCIAL INJUSTICE WARRIORS. Chuck D is WHIP-SMART and ANGRY about the mistreatment of his people. I definitely DON'T BLAME HIM.

The United States of America has wronged so many people of color. You see all of us in the United States come from immigrants. Some migrated on purpose and some were forced. Thank you again so much for putting another spotlight on the greedy.

Real rappers they don't t like. They prefer the sellouts today who tap dance for Trump for money and a pat on the back. I prefer those woke rappers from back in the day like Public Enemy, Krs 1, Tribe called Quest, Poor Righteous Teachers, and XCLan. Today is Common and Black Thought.✊️

It's capataism for the poor and under represented, but socialism for the rich and connected. They constantly get bailed out with companies getting huge subsidies, tax breaks, bailouts and bonuses for crashing companies. Others have to rely on the work they put in, to pay into the tax pool, only to see the money be given to the rich.

Back when Rap and Hip hop artists were making names for themselves my son would keep me nformed on which were the troublemakers and thugs and who were the ones working for a better world. Chuck D was one of the good guys. Most of the good guys from back then are still being productive in the business in some way. We never hear of the others anymore.

This was the 1918 Spanish flu: The pandemic broke out near the end of World War I, when wartime censors in the belligerent countries suppressed bad news to maintain morale, but newspapers freely reported the outbreak in neutral Spain, creating a false impression of Spain as the epicenter and leading to the "Spanish flu" misnomer.
Limited historical epidemiological data make the pandemic's geographic origin indeterminate, with competing hypotheses on the initial spread.

Thanks for covering this. He's someone I've looked up to since the 80s. I have a couple mutual friends with Chuck. By their account he's a genuine dude. I can't imagine he wouldn't come on your show if you could get him the invite.

Whew, maybe your best video. But that's mainly because of, Chuck - but you bring up great points. I will say this: I'm almost 48 years old and I started to listen to hip hop heavily in about 1987/88, when most white suburban kids did. Before that, I was subjected to my father's ignorant opinions (not as a blatant racist, but as I said, ignorant - he's actually a naturally kind man - he just happened to grow up in Chicago: a big old world American city where many different ethnic groups stereotyped each other on a regular basis). He told me that Malcom X was a racist who hated whites - until PE, I believed him. If you are familiar with PE's lyrics, you know that Malcom was a regular reference in Chuck's lyrics. As a typical suburban white kid growing up in the 80's, hearing the lyrics of PE, NWA, Poor Righteous Teachers, Geto Boys, etc - was mind opening to me. It was the introduction that I needed to educate myself on the REAL history (his-story) of America...Chuck D is a GD national TREASURE. The dude is so smart, a talented poet, and in addition; was able to take smart and political banter and mix it with relevant social entertainment and gain a huge fan base at the same time. PE was literally my favorite group for about 3 years when I was a teenagers in the early 90's. At a time when it was cool to like misogynistic, gangsta rap - that's impressive. Public Enemy is so wildly underrated: They have some of the most legendarily produced albums of all time, with some of the most incredible messages/lyrics, and then you add the perfect theater of serious/comedic performance in hop hop, ever: how are they not heralded as some of the all-time greats in music history - PERIOD? Well, I think, Chuck's message answers that question. The messages of 'It Takes A Nation Of Millions' and ' Fear Of A Black Planet' are so prophetic, it's crazy. In 2020, during early pandemic during the early days of BLM, I was living in KCMO. When 4th of July was upon us, I felt an ingrained pressure to celebrate, but it didn't feel right. I told myself that I would only go to that bbq if I did something that gave a nod to BLM. I thought back to many of the PE lyrics that I grew up with and thought, "Why aren't more people bringing up the lyric content of these legends during this time?" Well, people forget history very quickly and younger people just don't know or don't care. I was inspired by the VERY relevant lyrics of Chuck D at the time, 30 years later. If the spirit moves you, I wrote a bit of an album review of 'Fear' on 07/04/20 as respect to one of my greatest teachers: Chuck and PE. If you're interested: www.westenborghesi.com/blog-1 Much respect to this vid and PE. "Power to the people, y'all".

This brings to mind a lesson I learned from a prominent Jewish guy. The lesson was based on a narrative in the black community that Jews stick together or this other group sticks together. He told me it's not true. He said Jews look at value, quality, and service first. Being Jewish is the tie breaker if those 3 are matched by a non Jewish business or service provider.
