@@dpc4548 I own both the G7 and GH5. the noise reduction is much better on the GH5 than the G7 especially noticeable in photo mode. (if night time-lapses are your thing). The G7 based on samples i have seen is cleaner video that the GH4. The IBIS, 10bit and h.265, dual recording and high frame-rate options, the full sized HDMI port 6K anamorphic (or 5K open gate) I would consider as major differences over the GH4. That is the reason i avoided the GH4 because there were plenty reasons to get the GH5. There are plenty other minor improvements as well. I don't know about the bad additions moving from a GH4 vs GH5 perspective. I never owned the GH4 and i don't think it is a bad camera at all (it's great for the price now) but i would rather get a second GH5 for my professional work as those added features are big deals for me and my team. maybe if i didn't have the G7 i would choose a GH4 and two GH5 bodies. If you own a GH4 what are some things you would consider as bad on the GH5 from your perspective?
@@ProcessedDigitally The GH4 and G7 have the exact same sensor and produce identical images on the surface level. The biggest difference, of course, is that 10 bit from the GH4 is better than 8 bit from the G7, unless you're doing broadcast, in which case it's 8bit all the way. The GH4 has a full sized HDMI port, native SDI and no IBIS, making it a far better option for cinematic work than the GH5, as well as fitting into professional broadcast settings that the GH5 simply can't. The BBC, NHK and many others still use GH4s as travel cameras for this very reason. I recently had to loan a crew one of my GH4s for a trek up Fuji as their stock were all in the shop and they had to go. They managed the whole shoot with one GH4 that has a faulty screen. There is nothing "bad" on any camera. Just things that don't work as well as others for certain use cases. If you film only weddings, the GH5 may be the best option you have. If you do short films, then you may be looking for RAW recording and not limiting it to 10bit. So yea, the G7 is a fantastic throwing camera for scouting and travel with the GH4 being used as a travel camera for serious work or more professional settings where you work with others. The GH6 may try to compete again, but if it continues using IBIS, then it'll continue to be avoided by the industry. The GH5s was close, but without SDI nobody took it seriously. The BGH was a VERY good step in the right direction, though. Sorry, this was a massive wall of text 2 weeks late...
@@dpc4548 cool. The gh4 does not have a full sized HDMI port though. It's a good camera so many people will still have it. The g7 has less digital noise at a given iso only from tests I have seen. Maybe it has a newer processor or they updated the processing alorythm. Still gh4 is more camera than it.

I'm working on a settings video, it may be in 3 parts, showing inside setting with footage, outside settings with footage and night settings with footage. My goal is to show just how good the Panasonic G series cameras are and enable everyone with one to use the hell out of it. Will be out it a few weeks , have some vids ahead of it.
2024... Still G7! But if you can spend more a lil bit, then the GX85 for IBIS and light weight, or if your budget can squeeze more then go with the GH5
@@tommylamarr I think I am keeping mine forever too. I own a GH5, I want to get a second GH5 for my professional work but I have to keep the G7 as a third angle is always good for events plus its good to have a more 'disposable' camera that can match up with the GH5 for more high risk tasks. Hello Tommy thank you for sharing this video I like the ergonomics on that camera I like the way it's shaped and styled thank you for sharing this video I'll look into it I really appreciate your help keep up the good work your best friend from Atlanta Georgia 💖🇺🇸👍
Joe, man I’m glad you liked it and found it useful. The G7 is an awesome camera, just really can’t go wrong with it. And always glad to make new friends!
I pretty much got all my gear in a cart. As starters, I'm trying to make a choice between a gimbal or getting the $300 Final Cut Pro software. Which one first?
OK, that is a super good question but a simple answer.... Final Cut Pro, hands down! Editing is half of the process and the better you know your editor software the better editor you are. Everyone wants steady shots but there are ways around not having a gimbal.
tommylamarr One more thing, how do you keep the camera in focus while being so close to the person? If it's manual setting, how do you control that? With the focus ring the whole time?
Yo Man the method I use is... so once I set my manual focus I maintain focus using focus peaking and maintain proper distance. A gimbal makes It easier but before I ever had one I had a Glide Gear Horn, is worth trying out.
So when I started which was a few months ago I didn't know what I was doing and got a g7... is this good for weddings and etc?.... because watching every video on it I feel overwhelmed that I've made the biggest mistake of my life, even from other creators they push me down for getting one lol.... are they right? Did I realy just make the worst mistake for what I want to do?
@@levelup2203 ok, so here’s the deal. By Manufacturers specs it isn’t a cinema camera. Can you produce cinema quality images? Yes, you sure can. Can you rig it up and make it perform like a cinema camera? Yes you can. 90% of creators today don’t have what the industry calls “cinema cameras ”, and that’s totally fine because the content created is beautiful when executed properly and that’s all that matters. We Only run into problems when trying to submit to major studios because “they” have this expectation that only content created on a select few cameras is acceptable. And we (creators) have even shot content on iPhones that far exceeded expectations, yet that isn’t even mainstream accepted and that’s ok because the industry is slowly but certainly moving in the content creators direction. I make cinema quality work with the cameras I have (Lumix G7 and G85) including my iPhone so use that Sony Alpha to the fullest of its ability and make some great cinema content.
I'm about to order this camera now. I just subscribed to your channel. I'm new to all this and trying to make it a hobby. Do you mind answering any questions with your experience if I need help with the basics? I've done like a lot of research learning about cameras and their settings in general for about a week now.
tommylamarr that would be great! Imagine you knew nothing about cameras, settings, cinematic shots, etc. that's my shoes right now, my primary trade is I.T. So I would make this a hobby and try to inspire others. A lot of guys make videos with the assumption everyone knows what they are talking about. It's best to start with an audience as if you're holding their hands.
It only takes a cursory glance at the history of Cinema Camera features to debunk this argument. ND filters have never been built into cinema cameras until the last 10 years out of the 100 plus year history of cinema. LOG gamma is almost as recent of a feature as built in ND. Not enough dynamic range? Well, most feature films were shot with less that what this offers. Only 8 bit 4:2:0? Star Wars Episode 2 & 3 were shot at 1080p, 8 bit, 4:1:0 and no LOG. Having a "Cinema" camera doesn't make your images cinematic, Being a good filmmaker makes the cinematic camera. You are only limited by own skills and imagination. Invest in lighting equipment, learn to use it and people will hardly be able to tell the difference from a RED and the little G7. Cinematic images come from you, not the camera.
You know what? I like everything you said I'm just not sure what needs debunking. I deal in a world of facts so I make sure everything I post or say is fact therefore irrefutable. As Panasonic's website says the G7 is a DSLM Just like Arri's site says they have a range of cinema cameras. Again, like everything you are saying just not sure what needs debunking. Cheers.
Real expensive cinema cameras doesn’t have image stabilization or Nd filters build in my guy, nor does the Black magic packet cinema camera. But I do get your point. Not even the LUMIX S1/S1h is considered a cinema camera but you could shoot a featured film on those two cameras, the S1h is Netflix approved.
I'm not going to do the full research for you but I'll point out two "Cinema Cameras" with built in ND filters - Black Magic URSA mini PRO and the The Sony PXW-Z150. Some people may think that the URSA is "real expensive" for there budget, that's subjective to the person, fact is they exist.
A thing I've learned is people want cinema camera's and claim a big production can't be filmed unless on it, but they don't even know how to use it. What matters is if the camera operator knows how to use it. I know a guy who brought 2 Panasonic cinema cameras and don't know how to use it well.
You think it makes a difference people have done better films with far less. In fact Martin Scorsese still thinks the best files coming out of the gh2 when compared so take that however you want
I think the only thing that makes a difference is the person behind the cameras skill set. Camcorder, Arri, cell phone or lumix- makes no difference if you don’t have the skill.
See that's the thing, mainstream has it in people minds that you have have a $20K cinema camera, not even the case. Netflix approved the BlackMagic URSA mini Pro and it's sub $10K
It ain't no PRO camera, but goddammit have I shot PRO stuff with it. Here's a promo I shot for my brother Wise for his 52 Blocks ATL training club: th-cam.com/video/JT5jLOIzrZI/w-d-xo.html If you know how to set the picture right, shoot at the high bitrate and learn how to color in post, you can get some GREAT video out of it. Most importantly, knowing cinema and basic video composition will carry it a long way as a low cost video production tool. I've used the Lumix line since the GH2 (hacked) when everybody was using Canons. These cameras are excellent for new video producers and pros alike.
But then cinema cameras dont have stabilization too right. I own the G7 and know its a crippled camera. But the stabilization comparison to cinema cameras is wrong bec even cinema cams dont have stabilization. Also audio in camera ?....in comparison to cinema cams ?
I truly believe that Hollywood has brainwashed people into believing that the only way to go is Arri or Red. There are sub $10k cinema cameras that are awesome and tick a lot of the bells and whistles boxes because manufactures have figured out how to down size and incorporate the tech into concise packages. And I'm not even talking DSLR's like the GH5 which is still an awesome camera. SO, here's a link to an article that will enlighten and provide 2 options, and yes you will find EIS, Audio and even ND built in. www.adorama.com/alc/what-are-the-best-cinema-cameras
@@tommylamarr > Yes ND inbuilt into cinema cameras im aware of. Sound...hmmmm...yes a possibility by input XLR jacks and what not. But stabilization inbuilt this is the first time im hearing about. This TH-cam channel puts absolutely ZERO dollars in my pocket, if I did it for any reason other than the community I would consider my information worthless. This “rule” is left over from days of yore. In the early twentieth century, when cinema was new, audiences were easily confused by film language. They needed dissolves to understand passage of time, wavy wipes and twinkly music to clarify that a character was dreaming, and long establishing sequences so audiences knew where they were. Our modern film language (witness, for example, the stunningly layered digital transitions in The Life of Pi) would have confused the hell out of them. Times have changed. And when has a car commercial ever conformed to the 180 rule?!?!?! Let’s be smarter than this Major Tom...

It's basically a gh4 minus the 10 bit. The gh5 is basically a gh4 just with some minor additions, some good, some bad.
@@ProcessedDigitally It does have a full sized HDMI port, but i've never had much of a use for HDMI. Mini / micro / full, it's all the same.
Real talk I’m on a budget, what you think will be good for short films and content creation??
@@TimDog-ge8bd is the ability to change lenses and auto focus important to you?
Also what's your max budget?
@@tommylamarr lenses are but not really big on auto focus

Nice vid bro. My G7 is my B cam for my GH5 A cam. Works for me. Subbed.
yes match made in heaven lol
Thanks! I loved this review. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Would this Camera be good for Macro photography?
It would be awesome for Macro photography. Very vibrant and detailed images, I’ve taken some amazing shots over time with this camera. Here’s a link to a forum that talks all about it and lens choices. www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3962800
@@tommylamarr Awesome! Thank you so much for the reply 🙂
when you say cinema camera what do you mean by "cinema"?
Thanks mate. Great video. 💪🙂👍
Love my G7!
Nathyn Brendan Masters G7 Squad!
@@tommylamarr Thinking about getting another one too.
Nathyn Brendan Masters I own two G7’s and one G85, you can’t go wrong especially at the price you can get them for.
@@tommylamarr G85 is looking good too. I'm looking at the LX10 for vlogging and stabilized shots. But G85 is definitely being considered. But I'm also looking at the ZCam.
In the same situation, ready to level up to a true cinema camera, looking at the BMPCC 4K, the ZCam, the Black Magic micro 4K and ahhhhhhh .... the URSA PRO. Really leaning towards the IRSA PRO for a number of reasons.
Thanks for the video.I bought this camera few weeks ago..Not bad for a beginner
.Please do a video on your settings as your vidoes look crisp.
@@tommylamarr ..Looking forward to that..Many thanks😁
That's what I want.. settings video
You had me nervous. Lol. Great review
Haha, had to make things interesting.
Best attention creators...
which of these cameras would you choose for photo and video in 2021?
Canon sl2
Sony a6000
Lumix g7
????
2024... Still G7! But if you can spend more a lil bit, then the GX85 for IBIS and light weight, or if your budget can squeeze more then go with the GH5
Great video how is the picture quality?
I love it
Which lens did you use on your g7 the auto focus looks good tell me please
Man i was about to get mad as hell watching this 😭😭😭😭😭 I love my g7
I’m keeping mine forever!
lol
@@tommylamarr I think I am keeping mine forever too. I own a GH5, I want to get a second GH5 for my professional work but I have to keep the G7 as a third angle is always good for events plus its good to have a more 'disposable' camera that can match up with the GH5 for more high risk tasks. Anyone that shoots on Panasonic cameras for video should have one in their kit!
@@ProcessedDigitally Agreed! Everyone who's a Panny user should have one.
This was a pretty slick review.

Is m200 a better camera?
Hey , been looking at the g7 for a year now , hope I can save some money to buy one.
You really should do something with your marketing skills. damn.
3-52...I can[t believe you got this look with this camera. It looks beautiful. I am sad because I love @image making@ but You can get beautiful images with expensive cameras... thats what I have read.
I love this guy
what extra batteries do you recommend for cheap
Just buy the original batteries man or maybe the duracell model! Do not spend money on cheap ahh alixexpress battries ect

Sir can I make feature film in this camera??? Low budget feature film...
good cemera
I've shot a pilots and features with the G7.
I love the way you talk lol I subscribed because of it
I trust this guy)
Much appreciated!
Everyone wants steady shots but there are ways around not having a gimbal.
tommylamarr thanks man!
tommylamarr One more thing, how do you keep the camera in focus while being so close to the person? If it's manual setting, how do you control that? With the focus ring the whole time?
pirate the program online. no need to pay for it
Yo Man the method I use is... so once I set my manual focus I maintain focus using focus peaking and maintain proper distance.
Dont worry man. Its a great camera if you're just starting out. I'm learning a lot on mine.
omg you broke my heart in tears man
No broken hearts allowed lol, go get you one, the prices surprisingly are going up on them.
@@tommylamarr tell me something what do you think about Sony alpha's camera ? Could it be a cinema camera?
Saved me money 💰 thank you
I'm about to order this camera now. I just subscribed to your channel. I'm new to all this and trying to make it a hobby. Do you mind answering any questions with your experience if I need help with the basics? I've done like a lot of research learning about cameras and their settings in general for about a week now.
Hey, you can for sure ask any questions you want.Let me ask, would a G7 camera setup and setting video be helpful?
tommylamarr that would be great!
Great video! : )
Like your video.
Big thanks
I like the way you say things lol
While it show 70 mm screen
Ha ...I'm never selling mine !
Cheers.
That is basically what he was saying in the video. Hope u got to watch the whole video.
G7 is the best bro
:) Thank you.
I subscribe to your channel Tommy thank you 😊
I'm getting one sometime soon. 😂 It is a great cam.
Camcorder, Arri, cell phone or lumix- makes no difference if you don’t have the skill.
damn bro no need to make a dis track on the g7
Man I love the G7, that’s why I own two of them LoL
G7 is good for corporate videos. Real cinema cameras are $20k or up
See that's the thing, mainstream has it in people minds that you have have a $20K cinema camera, not even the case. Netflix approved the BlackMagic URSA mini Pro and it's sub $10K
you just said my words...♥️😜
It ain't no PRO camera, but goddammit have I shot PRO stuff with it. Here's a promo I shot for my brother Wise for his 52 Blocks ATL training club:
th-cam.com/video/JT5jLOIzrZI/w-d-xo.html
If you know how to set the picture right, shoot at the high bitrate and learn how to color in post, you can get some GREAT video out of it. Most importantly, knowing cinema and basic video composition will carry it a long way as a low cost video production tool.
I've used the Lumix line since the GH2 (hacked) when everybody was using Canons. These cameras are excellent for new video producers and pros alike.
New subscriber. Love this video! Can we be friends!?!?
For sure!
Yes compact and economic digital cinema cameras have come out @even sub $10k budgets like the ZCAM E2 etc.
@@mgr5550 LOL, I try not to post anything without knowing my facts because the internet is quick to shoot you down when they think you are wrong. I've been at this since 2014 when I bought my first two Black Magic Cinema Cameras, a studio and a pocket. I do my research because I love this craft and I think we are a better community when we share the knowledge. This TH-cam channel puts absolutely ZERO dollars in my pocket, if I did it for any reason other than the community I would consider my information worthless. I guess I could figure out how to monetize like others and tell people whatever but that not me. Glad I was able to enlighten you.
Noooooooo! G7 perfect for cinema. The best.
coool
3:56 Argh! You broke the 180° rule!
Nice!!! lol
