Like the bass sound also they should have that sound on the records it seems the bass is always buried in the mix. Myung sounds great here. I can finally hear him!
I clicked on the video thinking it was Spinal Tap with a drummer who won bass drums from the estate of Terry Bozzio. You're probably going to hate me for this but since when did Dream Theater have a human bard, Screamix the Shouter. The man who plays such fine arpeggios on his lute, is it Gandalf's brawling Half Nestor, the giant dwarf from the Swedish town of Suphult, I believe? And the human with some odd hair under the lower lip and who evokes neoclassicism with his hairless fingers? Aha, the human leftover from Kebnekajse's Japanese maxi singles.
No singer is great at the start of a tour..especially in Europe..jet lag, climate, venue, in ear mix..all are factors especially for a 40 year career vocalist..they know what’s best for them
So when Mike Mangini took over for Portnoy, all I heard was this is not the real Dream Theater. It’s not real unless Mike Portnoy is there. So now we have the original band back and the complaint is oh James can’t sing. If you’ve been a fan of the band you know that his voice has been With issues for many years now. If you’re going to a live show to hear an exact replica of what’s on the CD then you’re not a fan of live music. This is just the beginning of the tour and I’m sure his voice will get stronger as it has already shown since the first show on this tour. Bottom line is if you don’t like his singing, don’t go to the show. I am a huge Van Halen fan and in there later years with Dave back in the band, he was not good at all, but he managed to get through the show and I was there for the music.
Exactly my thoughts. I was in London. They were not perfect but they were amazing regardless. The show was very emotional for everyone and I even enjoyed it more than other times Ive seen them.
@@hichaelhyers Yeah, he objectively sings out of tune here and there. And the guitar master Petrucci also makes some mistakes :-) Well, live performace, anything can happen :-)
James... i feel for you buddy. Im a singer myself but this is rough...the mid and higher registers. Not horrible but it's flat/off. We all know it. I'm sure he knows it. The band knows it. It is what it is.
Shit! James alternates singing between about a half and a whole note too flat. Why can't he simply just transpose the high notes? Its pure pain to my ears. Or does he really not know how wrong he sings? Even in the lower register he is always too flat. But like a miracle he hits the high b in "the razors edge"😮!
James needs to retire. I used to think he was one of the best singers back in the day…like way back. I can’t understand why the band hasn’t let him go.
That would explain the situation. And it also means the band is actively trying to make him fully deaf by letting him tour 3+ hours sets in an insane volume.
Where did you hear this exactly? Heard it from a friend who heard it from another friend? Unfounded rumors and they wouldn’t keep doing this if he was. It’s his age and range and them not lowering the keys. The mix and acoustics could play a small role too but flat is flat
