      We don’t have much mud or water, we do have sand and it is deep!
      In some places I have completely stopped my old Ford 2600 just turning too sharp. The rear tires start spinning and dig a nice deep hole in nothing flat! I may need to change over to that wider tire.

    It's my understanding that R4s were designed originally for forklifts and skidsteers. Those generally were expected to operate on hard surfaces (warehouse lots, etc), so they're really a hard compound, and they wear much longer than R1s. They are also (generally) designed with much higher load ratings than R1s. The biggest downside is that since they were designed to be skid steered, if you have them on a tractor and you start sliding sideways they generally don't bite and stop the slide like an R1 would. By the time they do bite and stop your slide you could already have a bit of sideways momentum and end up tipping.
    Another thing for new tractor buyers to keep in mind; since so many new compact and subcompact tractors are coming with R4s as the default, if you do opt for R1 or R3 be sure to confirm the load rating. Tractor manufacturers are boosting front end loader capacities to the point that you can easily overload a lot of the cheaper R1 and R3 options, and the tractor manufactures almost always go for whatever's cheaper.

    Good info for those looking to buy. I definitely am an R1 tire guy. I have had the r4 tires and they serve a purpose, just not for me. One of the nice things with the 1526 i have with R1 is that it raised the tractor a good 4-5 inches higher.

    Hank, I like that R4 tire for almost everything I do on the land. I originally bought some turf tires for my little GC 1710 tractor and sold the turf tires and put on R-4's to do the work. I couldn't have made a better choice. I could see using Turf R-3's for golf course conditions or lawn businesses. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed a full-watch. Later.

    Great video. Very informing as well. I recently purchased a used Kubota L5030 HST w/front loader & open station with some beat up old tires on the rear and needing a little cosmetic and seat work. I have been trying to figure which tires to go with and this video just nailed it down for me. I will be buying a set of R4's for the rear since i only occasionally have a lil mud to deal with, but mostly 7+ acres (soon to be more) of high and dry property mostly thin woods that has already been underbrushed, which i will be thinning out the tall pine trees and stacking them to dry with my kubota, in order to build our log home with them. Thanks, i am a subscriber now!

    I purchased 2 brand new R 4 tires on the front of my Tractor. Had them mounted and ready to go. Went straight to a job sight where a client wanted some brush cleared. Immediately ran over some metal pieces of old fence and a board full of 16p nails. Put 4 holes in 1 tire and 3 in the other. I was so addled I went to Autozone and bought plugs, glue and the insert tools. They leak slow but I have to live with it. Spent $135. Per tire. Ouch!😢

    I think R3 Radials are the best for any tractor as an all around tire.
    I hate industrials, had them on a 05 4320 and they suck in mud, suck in snow and suck in a hay field pulling a Haybine, I had to use 4x4 going up a hill on a dry day.
    My Mahindra 5555 has R1’s, I can run over my lawn, as long as it’s not sopping wet, I don’t do any damage to turf. Marks go away in less than a month so I don’t care about rolling over my lawn with a 8000lb tractor with R1’s.
    R3 radial is my first choice, R3 titan multi trac is my second, R1 is my 3rd, R4 is my 75th choice lol

      Well, since I'm a Florida boy, my recommendation is flawed. Lol. But I think the R1 would suit you good.

    • @FromSteelToWood
      @FromSteelToWood 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I live in Canada, in steep terrain... Neither R1 or R4 are really good on wet snow & ice, except the turf tires (R2) which are fair to the best. The snow removal companies here are using rather large tractors equipped with turf tires. So don't change your choice of tires because of winter. You can rather opt for tire chains for winter if really needed. If you live on flat ground, you will be just fine without tire chains.

      I was going to ask Hank about the R14 Tires that I saw a video about on Good Works Tractor compared to the R4 Tires.
      Definitely going to go with the R4 Tires if the price of the R14 Tires don't justify the purchase. I've got a beautiful front yard I don't want to tear up with R1 Tires.

    It seems like you're comparing two different animals. A turf tire doesn't make sense on a big tractor meant for pulling field implements. But you didn't really cover when an ag or industrial tire would be appropriate for a compact or subcompact tractor. That's my dilemma. We're in the process of building a new home on a 6 acre property that has about 2 acres that I'll maintain as a lawn, 2 acres of woods and 2 acres of open pasture that I'll bush hog. The woods gets muddy -- especially near the stream that runs through. I'm looking at probably a Kubota B series tractor or similar sized competitor. My dilemma is that I don't want to buy tires that work well in the woods but then tear up my yard. And I also don't want to put tires on that keep my lawn pretty but are then useless in the woods. I'm guessing the pasture will be fine with either option. Should I just go with turf tires and add chains when I work in the woods, or would an industrial tire be the better option?

    • @HamiltonvilleFarm
      @HamiltonvilleFarm  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Kubota has the new R14 tire you should look in to.

    • @McScott76
      @McScott76 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, the other option I was considering is just buying a used compact tractor with front loader to maintain the woods and pasture, and then buying a new zero turn for the yard. I'd rather not have to maintain two pieces of equipment, but price-wise, it would probably work out to about the same cost -- up-front anyways. Over time, maybe not.
