I own BW 006 and never gave it much play time or thought, the neck is a little chunky for me. But such a cool looking machine! A lot of good info in your video, thanks
The lead singer/guitarist of Burning Sunday here in Alamogordo NM has a Les Paul similar to this. Its red with black hardware and binding. It looks awesome. It was a very limited run.
Why would people dislike it that much, it's just a beautiful burst/finish on a custom. Idk why people get their feathers in a bunch over this model, looks cool, and it's a les paul. Don't know what else you expect or want.
Reminds me of a Harley I had custom painted. It was black with candy apple red clear coat. The guy did a flawless job on it. There were two fish eyes that the seat would have covered, but he insisted on repainting the whole thing. I guess that's what you get for basically a $1000 one color paint job. It was my favorite bike as I had purchased it on October 31, 1997.
This reminds me of another custom build. In 1975 or maybe 1976, Dick Robinson, the guitar repair guy at the House of Guitars in Rochester NY, built a custom prototype guitar of 1/2 Les Paul and 1/2 Strat, double neck, black, heavy but cool as hell! I think it was supposed to be for a possible Ibanez model. Last time I saw it in 1976 it was in a glass showcase at House if Guitars. Wonder what ever happened to it.
2:58 you made me bust out laughing, "Guilty!" The second guitar after my old Strat was an '81 Dean Z. Severely tempted and needful during the early years to sell and pay some bills but I hung on. You know what, I managed to pay the bills and keep the guitars, still enjoying them today and even my kids are happy the guitars they grew up with are still around. The struggle was worth it. And that Black Widow has great specs, looks lovely (except for all those white blocks and stripes all over the neck!) Rock that one!
All those colour options you showed are sexy as hell. I'd pick them anytime over boring classic burst or even more boring natural! And tinted headstock makes it even better.
This version is actually very similar to my 2010 Les Paul studio in Artic white with Ebony finger board, mine has a little more bass, but other than that sounds pretty much the same. I'd definitely buy one if the opportunity was there. Cool find, cheers!
This guitar could of been way cooler ! I agree big time about the binding. (looks unfinished) But what really blows my mind, is the block inlays are sooo "white." They mess the whole theme up. If your going to go thru the effort to "customize" a guitar, THEN CUSTIMIZE IT ! The inlay's are okay if they inlaid spider's in the blocks or eliminated the blocks and did just spider inlay. Also, the tuner-heads should have been red tombstone heads. Red pickup rings with black covers on the pickups with the spider decal. Not sure who has less imagination, Gibson or Sam Ash ?? This "custom" guitar would not be worth the money, and fer me, would not rock in my collection !
The “Viper” Les Paul is pretty cool as well, and has 3 or 4 color variations I believe. They don’t however, make the headstock logos match the body color. It would have looked better (imho). Just your standard clear.
I had a custom shop LP that was chambered back in the mid 1990s (Elegant). Ship heeled over and the guitar that I had put on a table in the mess while I made a cuppa slid over an ash tray. Nasty burn in the back of it. Damn chambering. A nice heavy LP would have stayed put :) The sound of it? I though it was good. Chambering was sold to us back then by the guitar mags etc as a sound enhancing feature. I dunno. My 1997 LP studio is the best sounding LP I have ever had, but I have not had one of those true historic ones to compare with (I think the studio would take some beating tbh. It's really good). Bucket list guitar that's not the price of a small house? 1970s SG in walnut. A friend had one back in about 1990. The head stock kept breaking but it was an amazing guitar to play when in was in one piece (he sold the SG, an old Junior, and a Chavel to buy a brand new Jem. He also sold a late 70s JMP 2203 to get a Dual Reverb JCM 900. I have given him shit about it ever since. We all thought newer was better back then.).
I love seeing your old videos popping up on my YT feed!! Edit: in Australia and NZ where i now live we pronounce Les as “Lez” unlike you USA ppl who pronounce it “Less”. Cultural differences hey !!
How do they get the headstock MOP (that's what they are usually made of, aren't they?) inlays to go that colour, are they actually just stained "red" (or blue or green, or whatever) MOP, or are they made of something else, do you know?
Ive been toying around with the idea of picking up one of these widow les pauls. Ive yet to see one in person, so every one ive seen looks completely different. Some have gloss finishes and others are matte finished. Some have 5 piece necks while others dont appear to. Some have the stingers and some of them dont. The pickups and hardware are different on a lot of them, some having two pickups and others having three . Some of the truss rod covers are blank and some say "les paul custom" . Some of them ive seen are also double bound while others arent. Im really digging the yellow or orange finish, but i want to make sure im getting what im paying for. Everything on them appear to be correct. But im leary of taking chances on high end guitars just from photos. Were these made in all of these variations?
@@Trog Seems with so many variations, it would be easier to slip in a fake. Someone that knows what they're doing can make them look quite convincing to an online buyer. Consumers are lucky to have a channel like this. Thanks for all the great content!
As ive become more interested in Gibson i realized they are not as staid as i thought theyre WEIRD and I like it,[ well sometimes too weird] but i would LOVE THIS LP.
I bought a fake chibson one of these great product they did the red binding on the neck like you suggested and red block inlays you want pick hit me up p.s there is 0 neck dive on my fake
I have a (1 of 25) 2012 Purple Widow. AFAIK, it's LPC specs except flame maple top and rosewood fingerboard. For me, it has 1 fatal flaw: it's impossible to see the black dots through the purple binding on top of the neck in anything other than full light! Pretty much unusable on a dimly lit stage because I rely on them heavily for navigation. Gibson quoted $300 to replace.

I've seen the Black widow V on ebay , this Gibson les paul custom version is very wicked I can see someone from Slayer playing this guitar. :-)
Holy shit the quilt top red burst with red binding is such a beautiful combination
Remembered the song “Spiderwebs” by No Doubt, Gwen Stefani as lead vocals. Beautiful guitar! Rare indeed...
That seems pretty intentional because it is Spiderwebs.
Holy that black widow burst red has become my dream guitar that is beautiful
Kudos on the editing on the intro for the Black Widow. Well done.
Wow would of probably never known about this guitar if it wasn't for your channel.thanks. very cool guitar stunning to say the least.
I love the look of this guitar! The color and the wood looks great.
I enjoy the vintage look of a les Paul normally but, I really love the incredibly sinister look of this beast!
that paint job is to die for
That finish and color is one of the nicest looking I've seen
Ahhhh I see what you did there for the background music... nice one!
I realpy love The feeling that Mike puts on his playing
Love it. Looks great!
I own BW 006 and never gave it much play time or thought, the neck is a little chunky for me. But such a cool looking machine! A lot of good info in your video, thanks
It would've been cool, if they had used a 50s spec truss rod cover, but sprayed with the same red-tinted lacquer.
I was just thinking, doing the headstock inlay done in quilted maple with the same red used. That would be cool. Maybe even the fretboard inlays.
I like it, but i still think one of the coolest LP's you did a video on was that Steve Howe "The Les Paul" model. Awesome videos man, keep it up!
This is gorgeous.
I dig it!one of the coolest pauls I've ever seen.great job guys on the playing demo
Love these videos
And see this is why I come to this channel Sooooooo much good information you get and you learn about your favorite guitars
Yet another beautiful guitar, you have pulled out of your hat.
trogly always has the best les paul snipes really cool
Absolutely stunning...i would take one in a heartbeat!
Seen a lot of Les Paul’s but that has to be my favourite.
The lead singer/guitarist of Burning Sunday here in Alamogordo NM has a Les Paul similar to this. Its red with black hardware and binding. It looks awesome. It was a very limited run.
Good God that's one beautiful guitar!
I got to say i love the colour and the red binding..... i wish the diamond split was pearl but nita strauss would look hot playing it...
Been waiting to see this beast!
Probably the best looking les Paul I've seen .
Love it, and distorted sounds amazing. One of the best LP's ever
Why would people dislike it that much, it's just a beautiful burst/finish on a custom. Idk why people get their feathers in a bunch over this model, looks cool, and it's a les paul. Don't know what else you expect or want.

I like the little Black widow of la porte in there. Nice touch
Cool find, Trogly. Stunning, evil, almost comical. 👹

Black widow of la porte. Love that song. Thank you
Interesting. I live in la porte, Indiana.
2:58 you made me bust out laughing, "Guilty!"

And that Black Widow has great specs, looks lovely (except for all those white blocks and stripes all over the neck!) Rock that one!
If the binding in the fretboard and the inIays aIso had this red/orange vibe it wouId've been PERFECT
All those colour options you showed are sexy as hell. I'd pick them anytime over boring classic burst or even more boring natural! And tinted headstock makes it even better.
Agree and also white, black. But above all sunburst and clownburst. These are awesome.
This version is actually very similar to my 2010 Les Paul studio in Artic white with Ebony finger board, mine has a little more bass, but other than that sounds pretty much the same. I'd definitely buy one if the opportunity was there. Cool find, cheers!
I love it, I wish I could get the purple and green ones!
Those are beautiful and not overly metal,I have a blue one and I love it
I bought that red widow at 3:58. Fantastic guitar.

Exactly the reason I watch this channel. Weird ass Gibsons that I would probably never see anywhere else ☺

The red inlays look really cool
Beautiful guitar and lot's of interesting information in this video .
Is it the same chambering as the BFG or is it the Elegant pattern?
Looks like elegant/chambered reissue styled just like the '68 Cranberry quilt top model I featured th-cam.com/video/uYqiefOp0jY/w-d-xo.html
Reverb has on for sale
Video! 2009 Gibson Les Paul Black Widow Red Burst
Hands down one the coolest Gibson has made.
What was the song in the intro?
I had a custom shop LP that was chambered back in the mid 1990s (Elegant). Ship heeled over and the guitar that I had put on a table in the mess while I made a cuppa slid over an ash tray. Nasty burn in the back of it. Damn chambering. A nice heavy LP would have stayed put :)

What a cool guitar. I love Gibson’s when they’re doing good work.
3:28 that Green looks nice. Any SG's that way?
I don't believe a Widow SG exists - but there is always the Made to Measure program for something like that!
The block inlays should match the red split diamond inlays.. as well as the binding.
The window is probably my new favorite over the black beauty. I think I may need one
I like the white binding on top
I love seeing your old videos popping up on my YT feed!!
Edit: in Australia and NZ where i now live we pronounce Les as “Lez” unlike you USA ppl who pronounce it “Less”.
Cultural differences hey !!
I think its fantastic...the lacquer over is a totally cool
Needed garnet inlays, but still absolutely mind blowing
What do you think about the Gibson Les Paul Voodoo?
i had a voodoo v, it wasnt bad buy i threw out the bridge for 70s style Harmonica tom...god that thing ripped
Says on sweet water they came with Duncan antiquity pickups. Not sure if that’s correct but just something to look in to
that was likely a later run 'red' widow
i wish i have this guitar it's beautiful, well made thumbs up ☺️👍
Was that a John 5 song in the intro? Killer guitar!
How do they get the headstock MOP (that's what they are usually made of, aren't they?) inlays to go that colour, are they actually just stained "red" (or blue or green, or whatever) MOP, or are they made of something else, do you know?
The finish is tinted red. The inlays would be the regular white color underneath
That finish... is a lot like my worn and aged 76 Custom. That's what it looks like it! No kidding. Did they mock the aged lacquer look?
This & the satin red widow are possibly the best looking Les Paul made! Id buy one if the scale wasnt trash!
I don't care for Les Paul's but I'll definitely take one of those that fucker is nice!! 👌👌👌🤘🤘🤘
Nice video. I'd love to know what they cost new at Sam Ash at the time.
The white nibs is special mate... most guitars dont have such a unique look.

Yes - there are many different variations just like you described. I have a green widow and purple widow (gloss finishes) coming available soon

That damn thing is beautiful. I do think the white binding on the neck looks odd but overall, sweet guitar.
this is the most pretty guitar i have seen
Please review a Kay Univox/Effector guitar, I think it would be awesome if you did.
I have one - not sure when I'll get around to making the video though
I remember seeing pictures of those online when release
The red stinger is too cool
Oh man, I'm a sucker for red guitars!
Can u review 2003 les paul custom carved diamond (black-gold) ?
This Gibson is beautiful holy smokes!!
That fire burst looks great but the red binding looks a bit too 70's batmobil to me lol. Still an attractive guitar though.
Spiderweb on the black widow. No doubt the best song to play on it!
woah thats sick!!
How could anyone NOT like this Les Paul?
LeSG Paul Junior (Trogly signature)
Saying hi to the lawyer Morty comment day 9 but I'm sorry I was busy
I bought a fake chibson one of these great product they did the red binding on the neck like you suggested and red block inlays you want pick hit me up p.s there is 0 neck dive on my fake
Great video enjoyed it. Insane price for nasty looking LP though.

I'd like to see a more matte version, like matte black with red binding - 60's af, like the 60's Batmobile.
Stunning😎
At first I was like, "Damn, that's a nice finish and a nice quilt! I like!" then I saw the headstock and "damn!" changed to "DAYUM!"
I need that guitar
I can see why they sent them to Australia, because the same spider exists here but is called the Red Back rather than the Black Widow.
I love it, if I could have one custom made it would look like this
Sammy Ash sure gets very nice Gibbys!
I love it 😍
This is a steal at $6k! Would you take 3?
Thats a stunner!
