To all the people saying, "There is no feeling behind this solo or emotion." It is a contest. No one is going for emotional complexity with their entries, just technical abilities. This man has the power to create emotional pieces, just check out In the Fading Light.
Update I've been sweeping for like 8 years now and now I rarely practice anymore than an hour or two lol Am currently working on stuff with my own band tho
@@bigblacksal367 Thanks for the 8 year update. I hope you got the floor clean that’s a lot of sweeping! Just kidding. I’ve been playing for 30 years and I still haven’t had the guts to even approach it, even half heartedly. It’s very impressive though. I wish I could do it but I don’t really have an application for it in the music that I work on. Take care! Cheers! Olay!
Personally not a fan of shred, but this dude has perfected his craft. Whether you love the metal shred scales or not, you gotta appreciate it. Nicely done, man!
This was the first Andy James video I ever saw, and I thought he was amazing. Now he’s playing with FFDP, which was such a crazy surprise! Good on you, Andy. Hope he’s exposed to a lot of people through this new gig!
Instead of being ashamed, I just keep improving because I'm inspired by his playing. Because I didn't quit or feel down about not being able to play like him, I'm becoming closer and closer to my goal of playing like this effortlessly. You just have to learn how to practice efficiently.
God DAMN!!! Don't know what was more impressive: his phrasing, his clarity, his tone, or his speed--all extraordinary. When you've reached this level ladies and gentlemen, you've arrived!
That makes 2 of us .... i alwats kick off parties with andy tracks ...goes heavier by the second till we are just head banging to slipknot and gojira .... each patry is memorable AF
do you know what 666 means? you gonna have to do some deeeeeeep study to figure this one out. 6 is the number of man. that is the only clue you will get.
Apparently if a solo isn't 99% long notes with vibrato and full tone bends and pentatonic blues patterns than every 3 year old learns then it doesn't have "soul"...... getting really tired of this argument. If you don't like it great, just say you don't like it. Soul doesn't exist, it's a bullshit notion that people make up to describe why they like simple playing better than technical showy playing. I like Gilmour as much as the next person but I am willing to credit that to his note selection, phrasing, vibrato technique and playing style, not some bullshit "soul" garbage. Also there is more than one emotion, and pulling a pouty guitar face while bending a note doesn't give a song "emotion". Anger, sadness, joy, playfullness, sexual desire, depression, whatever, there are a wide spectrum of emotions that can be conveyed or related to through music, just because this one doesn't give you in particular emotional context doesn't mean anything. "No emotion" is another bullshit argument, completely meaningless. Emotion is context based and depends entirely on life experiences and a piece of music's ability to connect with those experiences. I don't connect emotionally with Albert Lee but I wouldn't be a child enough to say his music is emotionless. Same applies here. I bet working up the technique to play this required determination, is that not an emotion present in this piece? THERE IS MORE THAN ONE EMOTION. If you don't like something just say you don't like it. Either explain musically why you don't like it and analyse that, or just say you don't like it and don't try to work out why. But enough with the "soul" or "emotion" arguments, it's dishonest and tiresome.
a) I'm not american, b) I do play guitar and even have guitar videos on my channel which would have taken you 2 seconds to look into, c) "everybody has a soul" yeah magic crystals woooo power, fuck logic and science and knowledge. Thanks for joining in though I'm sure your support group would be proud.
Assuming the existence of some kind of soul or spirit in human beings, you think that has any relation to musicianship, as if somehow someone's soul is affected by vibrations upon the ear drum interpreted by your brain? Or as if someone's soul goes into the process of note selection, phrasing, or even the mechanical fingers to instrument? My logic is beyond fortune teller for not believing a bunch of bullshit? Have you heard of occam's razor? The burden of proof for your "soul" is on you since all evidence points to self contained organic systems (and it is the theory which easily requires the least assumptions). For the record, is this some human egoist fantasy you're living in where only humans have souls? Or do other organic species with similarly functioning systems also have these souls? Even insects? Microorganisms? I just want to get a feel for which branch of charlatanism we're talking about here.
lollipophugo Soul is just an expression which = feeling which andy here has tons of. I prefer classic rock such as Hendrix but I am on this video watching andy play and can say I am a fan, he's a great player. You are turning a mole hill into a mountain. Calm down.
WTF wow this guy is so fast I cant even comprehend what he is doin most of the time and I have been playin for a long time. He is so gifted. I wonder how long he has been playin. Its crazy I dont think their is a player who can touch him. One of my favorite teachers from lick library. My fav is stone cold Danny Gill.
He's a beast, my favorite guitar teacher/player on whole youtube, freaking fast playing, awesome technique und one of the worlds biggest talents on guitar.
Andy, just wanted to tell you...you are truly one of the greatest. coming from an old school person, a great great respect. you're song Shine on Through is so intuitive and rests all doubts of your soulful playing altogether. The only thing is that you add a little too much but I don't blame ya...if all them notes were in my head, guess I would too. God bless you my friend.
Ok, I'm quite impressed! Obviously his technique is top notch but it's his ability to take a wide variety of "shred" techniques and make them sound very musical and melodic that makes him such a pleasure to listen to. I hope he continues to move to the top of the metal guitar god heap.
he has distortion, but yet he plays his solos with such a clean sound, he puts so much precision in his playing so that his notes are dead on and perfect. he is one of my favorite guitarist
It's incredible because it's like if I found my ideal guitar player. This guy is incredibly fast but the way he play keep the thing very soft and very melodic. Love this guy!!
how long have you been playing bro its amazing the way that you make ur guitar sing the way u make it sing. in my opinion you are the best, enough said, thee best ever
But it also shows you all of the mileage left ahead to discover during the rest of your fun guitar-playing life. It'd be boring to be peaked out. But to know there's so much room to grow and the possibility of sounding like that one day is pretty adventurous!
Man! That is metal shredding at its best. I'd love to be able to play as good as that. That is probably best shreding I've ever heard and it makes sense. Alot of shredders just sound like mush. That is brilliant!
This is the first time i've actually been stunned by playing before. And I swear I'm not just saying that, I was stunned by how amazingly clean that was. Never have I seen anything so... perfect. 0:50 That was mind-blowing how clean he got that. And no Hairband to dampen the strings! My god.
Every time i hear this guy i feel like he's going to become the new Yngwie in terms of influencing the direction of shred metal guitar. I can't wait till his talents really catch on and he makes it big.
This guy is crazily, crazily good... it's making me have a look at how I position my fretting hand too, Andy just makes it look feckin' effortless... :D
AMAZING!! Here is a dude that heard: dimeola, holdsworth, van Halen, paul Gilbert etc....as a kid, and said??? I'm gonna do that. AND HE DID!! wow! ANDY??? you officially a M O N S T E R!!! love it!! Right on brother!!!
This is really impressive. I'll admit I judged this book by it's cover and was mistaken. I hope to imitate a lot of this guys ability one day. Very clean technique, but keeps melody and groove in mind. I might not be as metal as all that but there are lessons to be learned here!
Love how you play on your right knee, fuck keeping it in a classical position which most guitar teachers tell you to do! If your standing up where does the guitar position itself...to the side your playing. your awesome and you have a great tone!
wow...... what a great guitarist!! can definately hear the Petrucci influence....... a mate only just told me about Andy so this is the first time i've heard him.... definately gonna have to grab his solo albums!!
Im officially blown away...! That was incredible. Favorit part must have been at 2:14, even sounds like he is using a effect there, which he obviously doesn't!
This guy has so much control. I can only imagine how fast he can play when he practices. I know when I'm just noodling, it gets faster as I go. This guy is probably can get to Shawn Lane speeds.
@goodbeachyness He is a very technical player he has to get everything just right! i dont know about not feeling emotion he bends the strings exactly and it sounds awesome!
wow!! it's been almost ten years since I saw this for the first time. It's this video of Andy that made me buy the same guitar in that year, and 8 years later a Blackstar amp! I still suck at playing though :)
Go on Andy! You can check out Andy with band Sacred Mother Tongue by searching 'sacred mother tongue the end' ....epic.... and they're going on tour in April so you'll be able to see him do this live!
Still can’t believe this video doesn’t have 1 million views yet 11 years later
Now 13.
9 years later I still come back and watch this occasionally.
The guitar tone is soooo nice, and the playing is phenomenal.
😆yeah 👍
Still watching 12 years later.

Every year basically

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! This guy is a dang beast at shredding. Hands down best I've ever seen!
Have to admit, I'm awestruck at the combination of technical and composition talent of this guy.
What!!!! no soul give me a break,he just flew over 5 continents with his hands and mind..beautiful playing..my friend..
I've been practicing on average around 5 hours a day for the past 2 years and I'm getting ready to start learning how to sweep :D
I remember that feeling epically 😁😁 use it wisely
Update
I've been sweeping for like 8 years now and now I rarely practice anymore than an hour or two lol
Am currently working on stuff with my own band tho
@@bigblacksal367 omg im on my first year got my first band small gigs wish me luck my technique sucks

Whoa! 10 years! Doesn't get old!
Personally not a fan of shred, but this dude has perfected his craft. Whether you love the metal shred scales or not, you gotta appreciate it. Nicely done, man!
14 years ago and I still remember this glorious solo take.
Incredible!!! All haters can suck it...! This is Master Guitar playing, you are either ignorant or stupid if you can't appreciate this.
This was the first Andy James video I ever saw, and I thought he was amazing. Now he’s playing with FFDP, which was such a crazy surprise! Good on you, Andy. Hope he’s exposed to a lot of people through this new gig!
Rick graham had a sick solo over this

Joe Dennis those who unliked are most probably born DEAF on both ears...
Lol

We need tabs for this one!
When you've been playing a for a few years, you realise how much work is needed to show this level of control and ability. Thumbs up from me!
No soul = I can't play this and I'm salty af
Truth
after all these years i'm still in an awe i think i saw him first exactly 14 years ago when it just came out
I have to give the man credit, He is good. That kind of music just gets to be irritating Noise after a while.
As I watch this video, I hold my guitar in my arms and cry knowing that I'll never be able to please it like Andy can.
Ermmm... tabs?
Haha !
Andy James guitar playing is like crack for your ears I just cant get enough of it he is my guitar god!

Gilberto Hernandez Nero Caesar, thats what it means.
After watching Andy James, I have been inspired. I've been practicing a lot more.

Holy crap, I don't know if this has inspired me to play my guitar, or inspired me to give up! Andy you are a monster!
You sound like all my favorite metal guitar players mixed together and multiplied by 1000. I don't even want to look at my guitar right now.

This guy is unbelievable. Look how relaxed he looks! xD
That is just insane!!
Why the hell didn''t I hear from him earlier?
Badass solo, as well as guitar. I have wanted that beast for so long.
Andy James instruction over at licklibrary has been the reason for my guitar improvement over the past year.

Allright allright! Ok Andy! Settle down dude.... You've GOT the job!!
Love how you play on your right knee, fuck keeping it in a classical position which most guitar teachers tell you to do! If your standing up where does the guitar position itself...to the side your playing. your awesome and you have a great tone!
i can't decide if its the speed, the technicality, or the cleanliness of both that is making me wipe shit off my seat right now
Even Andy is starting to wonder how this is possible! :)
that's the cleanest shredding i've seen in a while...wow
Cleanest metal player I've ever heard, no joke.
That lick from :55 to 1:02 was just frickin tasty. I don't see a lot of guitarists these days with a sense of melody like that.
The shredding was amazing to say the least. Smooth as silk.
@Quitarstudent I believe so... ( I love EMG 81/85's myself they give you so much clarity) ;-)
best metal/shredding guitarist on the planet period
wow...... what a great guitarist!! can definately hear the Petrucci influence....... a mate only just told me about Andy so this is the first time i've heard him.... definately gonna have to grab his solo albums!!
