One lesson I'm learning right now is that a manifestation of self love is the expectation that people will treat you kindly, and not forming relationships with people when they don't. I've put up with people who put me down for so many years, and only now am I growing and asking for more from better people.

Maria, you said in a previous video that You wanted a beautiful, successful woman to guide you.. I hope you take comfort knowing that for many, YOU are that beautiful successful woman. I have so much admiration for you, I wish I could be more like you. I’m in tears watching this as I am one of those mothers that neglects herself. I started my family very young so I have a lot of soul searching to do when they’re older, I have no real hobbies or interests, it’ll be interesting to learn more about myself as the years go by. But for now, you’ll continue to be my distraction, my relaxing inspiration. P.S. my children love you too! 😘

"Self love is different from self care." "Self love...makes your soul bigger." You’re so wise. ♡ I recently cut someone out of my life after two decades, and I've learned so much. I feel like I'm at the beginning of a new, brighter era of my life. I've always had ideals for myself, like not gossiping, and I never realized that I couldn't become my ideal self with this toxic person in my life. It's hard but I'm feeling optimistic.

TheBermuda the same thing happened to me recently, but it was an 11 year old relationship, and i used to have this idea that i would be so lonely without this person, (i mean we were best friends for more than 11 years) so the sole thought that i could be away from this person used to be terrifying, but then it happened we parted different ways and of course i was so sad at first, because we used to be so close and suddenly i was alone, but now i see everything, this person was so toxic and our relationship was made from one way, i used to blame myself at first but now i know it wasn't my fault(that kind of relationship when they make you think that the blame is on you) and now i feel brighter and healthier and i can see a great future on my way, at least that's what i hope. I'm sending light and good vibes to you.

Self love is acceptance. The ability to accept every little aspect of you, to embrace your strengths and weaknesses and try to give yourself the space it needs, to express whatever emotion may feel right at a specific moment. It’s the ability to still love you and be proud of you, in your lowest, when your heart aches, when you lose hope, when you feel drowned of strength. Self love is to know you have to give your self time, to know when it’s the right moment to restart, to rebirth. Self love is the power you find to not feel the need to apologize for every little thing you need, want, desire. Self love is the ability to look in to the mirror and be able to see you are beautiful, not matter what. For me, self love is the ability to always know, that me and myself is the relationship that exist before and beyond anything else. Before I am a daughter, a friend, a mother, a lover, I am Helena. Just me. I can’t be all those things, without being my true self. If I stop existing, all those other relationships, also end with that. So I come first, not in an egoistic way, but in a form that allows me to be a better version of me, for me, and eventually for everyone else. I buy presents for myself for Christmas, I give to myself all the things I need from others, like acceptance, kindness, forgiveness. We have to love ourselves first, because we are the only ones that know our whole story, what we have been through, what we overcame, what we need and dream of. So, we have to love the shit out of us, because we deserve it.

Furry Bear ASMR Hell yeah, get yourself the most amazing gift! You know, when I was little, I remember my parents asking “who do you love the most? Mummy or daddy?” No one ever told me that neither answer was correct. Because I should have answered that I loved me the most! No one ever says it! If we give ourselves what they need, we will end up with individuals who are emotionally complete and full with kindness and love. And when you are complete, you start sharing and giving and eventually it all comes back to you. This is the path for a much more beautiful and kind world in my opinion. If you first, deprive yourself of love, you end up seeking it in the wrong place, creating a domino effect around you. (I really hope to make sense, because I haven’t practice English in quite some time! Sorry if I keep butchering it)

I think you touched on this subject beautifully. I am someone who also tried to emulate women who had innate self love and it just didn't work for me and for a long time I just didn't get it. Totally agree that love is power and we have to take ownership of everything that empowers us. It also takes honesty, integrity, self awareness and discipline. It's challenging but worthwhile.

At the age of 41, I just started the journey of self-love. Specifically, I'm finally paying attention to what I eat, where my money really goes, and making sure my home is peaceful and organized, so that I feel the same way. I have never focused on myself like this, and it is truly difficult. But I know it's all going to be worth it.

Self love for me is accepting myself at this moment the way I am. Believing and trusting that I am the best version of myself at this present moment. Self love is not empowering or trying or making, changing or forcing anything about yourself. Self love is pure accepting what IS created already just exactly as it is now and knowing that it is good enough, best as it can be now.

    • @dogdonut3
      @dogdonut3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Vanja Aragovic Really appreciate you writing this. Self acceptance in the moment is it. Constant striving to be the "best me" so I'm lovable is conditional love. I try to love others unconditionally...and myself.

Vanja Aragovic That sounds good, but I know there were many moments in my life where I was a horrible person. I was angry and mean and a bully, even if I never said my thoughts out loud. And in those moments, I should of NEVER accepted and loved myself the way I was. Once I grew as a person and seriously sat down and changed things about myself that I knew was hurting people around me, I was able to love myself more and more and more. And Im continuing to love myself more as I grow into the woman and human being I wish to become. Sometimes we need a kick in the butt to change, and that kick in the butt is hating the way we are and not being content to STAY in that bad place but to WORK to improve ourselves and be better.

Thank you for this video Maria. I only just realised that I do truly love myself after a long and hard recovery from an eating disorder, where self-hatred was my only fuel for too many years of my life. As soon as I started trying to improve myself with the motivation of making myself better because I deserve better, instead of improving only because I thought I would hate myself less - that’s when I realised that I do truly care for myself now. It is such a relief, and it took me way too long, and I hope everyone finds their own true self-love eventually, because we have to be on our own team to truly prosper. 💜 thank you for being such a calming presence in my life Maria.

Self love, to me, means feeling confident in your choices and decisions, always carrying a positive mindset, being ok with making mistakes ( that's how we learn!),and embracing the love others show you. For me, I had to shed my self conscious nature and learn to be strong in my convictions. I really like how you explained this. A friend and I were just talking about self-love and I’ve only just now reached that place in my life. I always thought that self-love was something you could think your way to, but that hasn’t been my experience. You have to start acting in ways that show love to yourself - like pursuing a goal, or taking good care of your health, or whatever it is. You have to act first and over time the action fosters the feeling. And that can be super hard because you might not want to act in empowering and affirming ways if the self-love isn’t there yet. That’s why I think at its core self-love is an act of faith. You have to believe that you are lovable, even if it doesn’t feel that way yet. And then you take one positive action. Rinse and repeat. Those are my thoughts, thanks for this vidja!

I have a few chronic illnesses and had to learn that my value isn't tied to a job or money or possessions.
My value is based on my compassion, my empathy, my intuition. My value is based on my desire to better the lives of others through charities that matter and through contacting my state representatives and senators. Suffering drains me. Not my suffering (though I could do without non-stop pain and a cruddy immune system). The suffering of others, of those without power, without a voice - it takes everything out of me. It used to eat me up that I couldn't do more but, I realized that every drop of goodness and kindness counts. Witnessing cruelty towards people and animals leaves me feeling sick. So I act. And by acting I'm making a difference. And my making a difference, I feel more love for myself.
I'm not perfect. I can be hurtful. I can lash out when someone makes my life more difficult. But I'm working on becoming a better person. And I know my value comes from my kindness.
When I stopped seeing myself as helpless and broken, I realized I deserved better. No more settling. I give love, I deserve love. As unconditional as possible.

I can really relate to you.... I've had a difficult chronic illness since I was 16 and it completely changed tht course of my life. I used to feel broken and hopeless until I learned to change my perspective about what's truly important. I still struggle a lot, but I've realized that my illness has made me a much more patient, kind and loving person. I don't think I would want to change my path even if I could. Spreading love and positivity is all that matters when you look at the bigger picture.

I would also agree that self-love is self-acceptance: realising that no one else can be you, and finding autonomy and self-respect in this. It is also accepting the past and how it may have hurt or helped you to become the person that you are now in the present. This is not of course forgetting to hope to always improve in the future, but using the present as a guide for that.
Thank you for this video, Maria, I would love more videos on such topics as this! I find them very useful. Lots of love!

Self love to me is accepting myself and all my faults as the way God created me to be. It is an affirmation that you admit that you have faults and weaknesses, but am trying my best to work on these things. As just myself, I’m nothing. I cannot do everything on my own, but through God all things are possible. And because of his love and what he did for me On the cross I am made whole. It’s important to think positive thoughts about yourself as well. “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear, I'm going through the exact same stuff you talk about. Self love for me is constantly bettering myself, growing, learning. Cutting out the bad and unnecessary things (people, habits, etc), and just figuring out who I am so I can be my own person without vicariously living through others. Think of how you love other people, you accept them as they are, their flaws and their strengths, and you want what is best for them and makes them happy. You want them to be their best selves and live their best lives and you will support them and encourage them, as well as pull them back if they start to go down a destructive or dangerous path. So treat love of self the way you love the people closest to you, be forgiving and understanding and supportive and tolerant but still gently push towards something better that will make them/you a stronger, better, more compassionate and more loving person 😊💕

I have been working this notion through more and more recently as well!
Self love, to me, is all about self-improvement. Accepting the flaws that one has and then working out of self-interest to better these sides of yourself, whether these be physical or mental, matters not.
In my case that translates to developing grace, improving in art, appearance (exercise, self-care) and anything else that may strike my fancy! It's like having an ideal vision of yourself and then working towards that, doing what you need to do to get as close to that vision as possible.
Doing all of these things makes me feel happy and good about myself because I can feel myself moving forward. This is what self love means to me. It's not so much about the destination, more about the journey.

This ‘self-empowering’ is a really interesting concept and I agree.
I struggle with self love having gone through an abusive childhood and an abusive relationship. Self- nurturing really is the way to find it for yourself- when I spend my free time doing yoga, learning a language and reading I feel fulfilled and good about myself, whereas if I eat/ watch rubbish I don’t. And in that way it’s also about knowing who you are what you like. Which is empowering in itself.
Your warmth and loveliness come across in all your videos and they both relax me and bring some sunshine to my day. Much love to you!

Hello Maria! This is such great advice. It really hits home for me because I’ve really struggled with this. For me, self love is just taking the time to do things for me. I tend to think of what others want, neglecting myself and my wants and needs. Every once and a while i try to separate myself from other people and take the time to really think about myself and what I believe in and who I am, and when I’m done I say out loud “ya know what you’re all right”

I love the egg analogy. Self love is all encompassing like you've mentioned. Asking yourself what you like, what you don't. Personal reflection is key, turning inwards is key.
People are weary to make their own choices and opinions, it's too easy to hide behind someone else and just be agreeable, being introspective is hard, saying how you feel isn't easy. Valuing yourself is self love, and I believe with time, patience and age, lol... It can be created.

I love everyone around me, try to always respect and help others but not myself. Thank you Maria...I so needed to hear and see this.... and will try my best to practice all these things. This puts it into perspective for me so much! It's been a long road but I feel I'm on the right path. I first started limiting my time spent with my group of friends I didn't need anymore who were not bringing anything valuable to me. Then I started getting fitter, quitting smoking, enjoying sport more and more and making it centric to my life, not for my physical looks, but for heart health, lowering my high cholesterol and setting myself and health up for the long run. This makes me feel so empowered and structured in my life. It helps me make good choices in diet, people I hang around and just general life. I also finally ended a relationship that was just draining me and wasn't giving me anything good anymore. I felt really empowered and happy when I ended this because with all these choices I made, I realised I wasn't selfish, but I was finally putting myself first for the first time in my life. Because at the end of the day, you're with yourself 24/7 and you feel what you feel, not someone else feeling that for you. So why not make it good feelings? All these things you engage in will then equip you to take on any criticisms or negative energy because you can just deflect it back. Why? Because you know you're making all the right choices for you. That's self-love for me.

This is a lovely topic, Maria. For me, self love is being courageous in life and also having compassion for myself thru failure or disappointment. I’ve always struggled with this, but I think for me self-love is waking up with a deep appreciation for getting to be me that day. I went through a period of feeling like I lost myself and it wasn’t until I started feeling like myself again that I understood what it felt like to be deeply grateful for myself. Like putting yourself on the top of your own gratitude list and feeling like you wouldn’t want to live life as anyone but you. 😊💙

This is really affirming for me 💖Throughout most of my adult life I would often become depressed when I saw self confident women and felt that I lacked that love for myself. I realised that trying to force myself into being more self confident only made myself more frustrated and unhappy. I’ve learned that comparing yourself to others can be incredibly damaging, and instead you should focus on what makes you yourself happy.

I watch at least one ASMR video every day to relax and be in the now, which I feel is essential to our happiness. Self Love is a journey. A continuous practice that we must always do to fall in love with ourselves deeper and deeper. Self love to me means doing what is best for me and doing what is best for me sometimes means not indulging in the thing that feels good like eating chocolate in the bathtub but doing my laundry and dishes and meal prepping healthy delicious food for myself. However sometimes loving yourself means giving yourself permission to take a rest, watch a movie and indulge in something that you love. You must really love yourself Maria because you are so beautiful and you radiate so much love! Just watching you speak about self love gives me that warm tingling sensation inside that I know is love. You are amazing. 💜💙💜

Totally agree that self love does NOT come naturally to most people! I struggled all my life with being so critical on myself that I didn’t even realise I was doing it 99% of the time. After an amazing bout of therapy, I have learned so much so far! Self love for me is choosing to focus on my favourite parts of myself inside and out rather than a constant microscope on the negative. Acknowledging that I’m not perfect but loving who I am and how I got here. I listen to my intuition, and do more of what makes me happy long term and less of what doesn’t, even if those things are different to others around me. I take care of myself and cherish myself as if I was my own best friend/daughter/mother. Thanks for opening a wonderful conversation topic Maria 💜

Possibly my favorite video you’ve ever done on this channel!! People are always preaching self love but rarely how to actually put it into practice! I have struggled with it my whole life, but now I do something similar to what you described as creating another person in your head to check things with. Every time I catch myself struggling with something, I pretend that I am my best friend and give myself the advice that I would give her. It has worked wonders! Maria, I do not have a mother or grandmother to look to for advice as I have entered various stages of my life. Marriage. Motherhood. etc. Now as I near my mid 30s, I find myself hurting in a way like never before for that mother figure I never had. I ache for wisdom and support and over the last couple of years more than ever I have felt this odd pull towards needing to have a close woman or 2 that I could truly befriend , support and learn from. I tell u this because I want u to know that watching this ---the kindness, the sincerity, the open-ness..is what I imagine my perfect bomd w/ another female would be. Although I haven't made that friend or found that circle of women just yet, this vid brought me such a sweet peace and joy watching it that for a moment I had forgotten, I hadn't.

For me self love is taking care of my needs first. I have been focusing on my mental health this year by seeing a therapist, and really have grown in understanding myself. Physical, emotional, and everything else i have been prioritizing as well! Doing things I want to do instead of what others want i.e.-Not going out to party, but staying home or going hiking because thats what I want to do.

Lovely video! I agree. I've learned self love has to do with knowing and respecting your boundaries. Doing what fills you, and rejecting what drains you. Expressing your true feelings no matter how hard it is. Going inside your soul and looking around at whats there, what needs work, what may be hidden. Being brutally honest with yourself. Doing what you can to make yourself better, but accepting who you are now as enough, and being your own best friend :)

This video came at the right time for me. Lately I’ve been feeling very anxious. A lot of the time I doubt whether I’m doing the right things: I worry that I’m being selfish or that if I express an opinion in class it won’t be smart enough. What I’ve noticed, though, is that I usually put myself into a place of doubting for no reason! If I allow myself to trust in my capabilities (which I often forget I have) then I do well. Through this video I learned that sometimes having a lack of power is not because anyone is taking it from you, it’s because you’re not allowing yourself to recognize your own power. And that’s what I did. That’s it, tomorrow I’m going to try to trust myself more!

I empower other women to achieve that power of self love. I have found uplifting and being kind to women in particular has freed me of any envy or self doubt in my own mind. Every time I go out, almost every single day, I make sure to give a random woman a compliment. Whether it’s a “great hair sugar” or “I love your make up” or whatever, it empowers me to see these random girls light up a little with just a genuine compliment. Every lady should try it, it has shown me the power of feminine kindness, and I love myself much more since I started.
