    • @dildonius

      The earliest known written record of the camera obscura is to be found in Chinese writings called Mozi and dated to the 4th century BC, traditionally ascribed to and named for Mozi (470 BC - 391 BC), a Han Chinese philosopher and the founder of Mohist School of Logic. And there are a LOT of other people who wrote A LOT of other things about the "camera obscura" well before 1021 AD. Theres a possibility that even friggin CAVEMEN in the Stone Age knew what a camera obscura was and how to make one.

      @@dildonius Ancients such as Mozi had misconceptions and theories about how to see in antiquity such as the theory of emission supported by thinkers such as Euclid and Ptolemy, which postulates that vision is based on light rays emitted from the eye. The second theory is the penetration theory supported by Aristotle and his followers, which assumes that light enters the eye through physical images. Ibn al-Haytham opposed the fact that the process of vision occurs through the rays emitted from the eye, or the entry of light into the eye through physical images, and he reasoned that the ray cannot be emitted from the eyes and reach the distant stars in an instant as soon as we open our eyes. He also opposed the popular belief that the eye may be injured if we look at a very bright light, and instead developed a very successful theory that explains the process of vision that it occurs as a result of the exit of light rays to the eye from every point in the object, which he proved through experiments.

      credit should be given to anyone developing science this is the scientific integrity. it is true the Mozi mentioned it, and he deserves to mentioned too. but when you write a complete book about optics and transfer knowledge through experiments and observations and explain them in detail, develop the camera obscura concept to use lenses and demonstrate it to the public then you deserve an honorable mention. credit is due to masters before students. science is about passing your knowledge to humanity and this is what the Greeks and scientist in the golden ages of Islamic rule did. they transferred knowledge to humanity. and giving credit to them shows your integrity in research.

    Three ways to manipulate light: 1) reflection, 2) refraction and 3) projection. But what is the difference between refraction and projection? A lens and a hole does the same: project an image. So, 3) is somehow embedded into 2). Can anyone comment on this? Or explain? Much appreciated. :)

    • @TobyOnTube
      @TobyOnTube 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TONE11111 Thank you. In the meantime I thought more about it. What you write makes sense. For a larger pinhole diameter the projected image becomes more and more blurred. So to speak the 1:1 point mapping (object plane --> focal plane) is destroyed for larger entrance diameters of the pinhole. The lens (refraction) restores the 1:1 mapping and sharpens the image.

      Optical Illusion: "something that deceives the eye by appearing to be other than it is."
      I mean unless you believe a mirror is a separate universe I'm pretty sure you get what you're looking at is a reflection. I guess it's subjective, but most people I know understand a mirror/a reflection and there usually isn't anyone trying to convince them that their twin self is on the other side peering out at them from an alternate dimension :).

    • @bigsmoke7759
      @bigsmoke7759 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      McD Yeah, that’s what an optical illusion is, but they just are that way, nobody is specifically making them (not always) to deceive you, like if you put a pencil in water and look at it at an angle, nobody intends that to happen, that’s just how it works.
