Although Im happy for gastrodon (even if its not the lock we really need), im not too sure if the format would be better with a huge lock like path to the peak. I remember how Mew Vmax, a deck that should've been counter played by Path to the Peak, abused that card to the end by playing 4 copies, drawing tons of cards and then locking the opponent just to vacuum it next turn, rinse and repeat. If there's another big ability lock card again, it cant repeat that mistake
Finally! Something that deals with Dusknoir. This format was getting out of hand because there's no counterplay to Dusknoir. It's NOT a complete counter, but at least it interacts with Dusknoir. Ever since Gastro got revealed, I've been cooking a control deck list that can setup an ability lock with just 1 combo in turn 1. I just need to play the format so I know what to tweak in the deck.
Unfortunately it doesn't stop dusknoir at all. You can simply promote dusknoir, trigger the ability, promote the next dusknoir and so on. Sure it's an extra step but how hard is it really to just retreat or simply promote it after a ko
I love the new Gastrodon. I wish we had a more Dusknoir focused counter, like manaphy for Dusknoir, but I do think this card will be great at slowing the format down some. It won't be TOO good ultimately but the threat of it will have to make some decks adapt. There are no real good "hit and run" decks, but something with Gastrodon on the bench and fluttermaine in the active could be great.
Yeah I'm also glad that gastrodon exist. At least exist if not playable. Thats good im so sick of lugia and archeops. Finally I can count on something that can slow that crazy deck down. It never should have been printed an ability like lugia v star. Never
This set makes me think that pokemon is taking some inspiration from mtg (in a good way). There are a lot of attacks that create a board wide effect. Walrein I think is especially cool. It reminds me of hex maniac, really strong boom but hard to chain. But while they've balanced these effects by taking your attack, the effect is more interesting than some of the most historical ptcg themes, imo
This format is actually looking hella interesting. Thinking up of like 8 decks already but this actually looks like a decent set. Hopefully, it makes the meta more interesting than what it is now
they are cards given to participants of gym battles (a kind of store tournament in Japan), they normally are released in international sets after some months. For example Garganacl ex was a gym promo for some time before it was released in Stellar Crown
Wait...what about pokemon with negative abilities? The new Slaking ex has an ability: if your opponent has no pokemon ex or v in play, this pokemon can't attack; slap gastrodon on your bench, and it's free to attack single prize decks!
@@derekjeter3654 but stage 2's abilities could still be used when they're in the active spot... dragapult is stage two but is not relatively affected by this.
Look I’m probably weird but I love single price decks.. can you please spend a bit of time either ranking single price decks, reviewing single price cards etc? There is nothing out there talking about purely single price strategies..
You can use adaptive evolution Scatterbug and Spewpa to get Vivilion out turn 1 and then evolve your whole bench, torterra decks eating good with this

mind dropping the list? i'm curious.

There has to be something to combat Dusknoir- the card is just insane.
Plz list us 😂

Any single prizer mill deck with neutralization zone and gastrodon would be too funny.

The new flygon ex is a hit and run atacker

@@stivenemidio6533 It can one shot any of the loyal three ex
Gastrodon is something we really need in this format. I like Iron thorns as active to shut down ex/v etc abilities more though
22:56 I could only think of pairing TM Machine with Rotom Vstar
I think that is what creatures wants us to do is to revive lost zone with rotom vstar and items and tms before they rotate
Adaptive evolution scatterbug to go to instant vivillon turn one for the bench evolutions?
Now I have something to bully Lugia and gardevoir with
Yeah bro. Finally a non rule box ability lock. It was always rule box ability what they always locked.
Hydreigon munkidori will be insane... munkidori combos so well with its second attack

That Exeggutor could be fun in a Forretress EX Brambleghast deck
A Durant-Brambleghast-Forettress deck sounds really fun
This format is actually looking hella interesting. Thinking up of like 8 decks already but this actually looks like a decent set. Hopefully, it makes the meta more interesting than what it is now
There’s like 8-10 meta decks
Agree with Dusknoir problems! Card is just too good
Dawg raging bolt craps hard enough on stage 2s already 😭
We are hitting on the basic pokemon deck format. Trust
Sorry, what does gym promo mean? Will these cards be available in ptcglive?
they usually get released in a main set, sometimes months after they are revealed for japan

Go reread gastrodon carefully. The word "bench".
@@Tvboy777 oh yeah right, I was too excited with idea... hahaha
TM machine is gonna make rotom vstar even better. If its still in the format.
Yep, that card will definitely be the end of stage twos. No one will ever play another stage two again in this games history 😅 21:01
OMG Gastrodon with Slaking is like the best combo. How did I just think of this?
Oh noooo, it's just benched. dammit. I look like an idiot now.
It doesn't work because Gastrodon only affects Benched stage 2s
@@HaruGamingCh that means, you could still blow up dusknoirs when they're in the active. oh noh...
Donphan/siglyph was so much fun
Rip Chien-Pao 😔 (as if it was't dead before)
Why not play Durant in Lugia Vstar to counter Charizard ex.
15:42 not as relevant, but gastrodon is the final nail in the coffin for pao/bax
Why doesn’t Pokémon just do a you can only play one dusknior in your deck
Like, i don't understand what the hell they were going for. They just made a bunch of decks irrelevant now. This meta is so garbage.
I dont think they are nerfing them that hard tbh, gastradon is still a big comitment deck slot wise and the stadiums can be bumped easily rn
Get outta here stage 2 decks. We need more straightforward decks lulz.

Why do they print so much stage2 hate cards? Do they want to make it a basic ex only game?!
Byeeeeeeeee boring Dragapult and Charizard spammers!
