I won 1st place in D.A.R.E essay writing competition and S.M.A.R.T competition, both were drug resistant programs. I then got into drugs a few years later and drowned in active addiction for well over a decade. Now I'm recovered and trying to figure out how to help others.

Social-Emotional learning is the key to success in drug prevention programming. We teach emotional intelligence through yoga and meditation!

A part of drug prevention isn't necessarily to prevent the usage of drugs, but to delay the use of drugs. Because research has shown that the chances of problematic drug use increase when your first drug use starts at an early age. The younger you are when you first start using drugs, the higher the chance of developing a drug problem at a later age. So while while we need to look at ways to improve prevention, even a temporary delay of drug use is a good thing.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:02 🚫 *Government aims to prevent drug abuse by making certain substances illegal and punishing users and sellers.*
01:00 🏫 *Programs like D.A.R.E and Just Say No have good intentions but are generally ineffective in preventing drug use among children and teens.*
02:25 🧒 *Programs may not work well with different age groups due to content mismatch.*
04:22 😱 *Scare tactics, factual information, self-esteem boosting, and oath-taking programs all show limited or no effectiveness in preventing drug use.*
06:17 👥 *Programs that focus on developing social skills, self-control, and stress management can be more successful in drug prevention.*
07:17 👪 *Family involvement, support, clear expectations, and nurturing environments can reduce drug use among children.*
09:42 🏘️ *Supportive community relationships, access to healthcare, childcare, and recreational options also contribute to drug use prevention.*
10:42 🌟 *There is no magic bullet for drug abuse prevention; a combination of effective programming, family, and community support is essential.*

How can you refer to "studies" so many times in a video and not once mention an author or the name of a paper? Not even a bibliography to be found... Makes it just an opinion piece

There’s a whole field of prevention science dominated by university-based researchers publishing their work in peer-reviewed journals. Folks should take a look at it.

Lumping together all prevention programs in the same bucket as D.A.R.E. and "Just Say No" is irresponsible, misleading, incorrect and unethical. Correlational effects are the basis of public health, yet the speaker claims that only causal effects are valid. Genetic predisposition isn't even mentioned. I'm disappointed that Khan Academy, which is a brand that my school and my kids trust, would publish something so sloppy.

A girl meets a boy in class they begin to talk and they share the same likes , one day the boy decided to 1. Take a photo of a girl ( photo taken under her skirt)
      2. Has marijuana
He goes to the office for the girl picture on the phone
Then asks me to hold the marijuana!
So he gets expelled. And I get asked did you hold his weed. I lie and say no
Down the road he asks me can I hang out since I live in his neighborhood he makes me hold a bag of alcohol and go to party’s where he shares much more drugs like zanex. By graduation I have taken more zanex I was no longer available to function . . . I didn’t finish walking high school.
My first year of graduation he already prosituded me and I had a child by men I do not know.
This is all by the same boy I met
