I started with Col 3&4 and Rows 5&7. The 5s in col 7 and row 3 gave me a 5 in block 3. After that many solves came. The puzzle was easy and took me a little over 10 minutes. Update: I learned the term intended solve path after watching the video. I try to solve these puzzles on my own and watch the video when I'm stuck. This one I solved without seeing the video.
Filling the seven-digit rows and columns gave an immediate pair of X-wings in 5s. I did a few other things before competing all of the seven-digit rows and columns, such as cornermarking 8s, 1s, and 2s -- and centermarking block 7, a useless exercise. But the X-wings cracked the puzzle open and let me continue centermarking and placing digits until the end. 4:00 I don't search for an intended solve path. Sometimes, I find something that was obviously intended -- and a couple times, something obviously intended turned out wrong although it was as good. 6:30 I colored all the cells barred from 5s by the X-wings -- temporarily, of course. Only until I could cornermark the 5s in the blocks.
45 minutes, I'm not at my best today (9 hours spent on the road driving to and from my stepfather's funeral.) I actually spotted the double X-wing on 5's almost immediately, because of the heavy rows and columns screaming for it. That placed the 5 in R2C8. It took me forever to spot the 39 pair. If it had eyes it would be blinking back at me. And then it took me forever again to spot the pointing pair of 7's in block 1. After that, everything just fell into place.
Clever puzzle. Obviously found the X Wings right at the start. But played very poorly from there. That 5 in block 3 ? I was oblivious to it for an eternity ! Sigh... Great demo.
I never look for the intended solve path. I just look for where there seem to be limitations placed on the sudoku, almost all the time. It just happens that the intended solve path is almost always the most filled with these limitations.
@@SmartHobbies When the 5s only have two options like that, it's easy to spot the effect on box 3. I guess that some players are more used to certain patterns and techniques and struggle more elsewhere...

Thanks 🤗
Awesome job Ana. I had a good feeling that you would find this trick pretty quickly🙂
Beautiful sudoku! I usualy try to find the intended solve path early in the solve and when I get stuck. 12:13
Great words to live by. How long have you been watching the channel?
This actually taught me more on X-Wing. The previous video I couldn't do b ut maybe now I can do i t.
Awesome to hear that. I love how Sulphur set this up.

Awesome job, Mike! You found the intended logic very quickly. Thank you for sharing your feedback and your success. 😎
13:31 to solve. Nice puzzle Timberlake
Glad you liked it Jon. I plan to feature more Sulphur puzzles soon.

Thank you for sharing, John. I would say that most people are like you and do not look for intended solve path, unless there is a hint to do so.

Glad that you found the X-Wing quickly and stuck with the puzzle to the end. I am sorry to hear of your stepfather's passing.

Glad you thought the puzzle was clever, Georges. I will admit I was a little slow to catch the 5 when I first solved it as well.
No prob. Just use sauces of prelimination.
I never look for the intended solve path. I just look for where there seem to be limitations placed on the sudoku, almost all the time.
It just happens that the intended solve path is almost always the most filled with these limitations.
The X-wings were the obvious break-in point. Other than that, I had no solve path other than centermarking cells and placing digits.
You make a great point, Roderick. The limitations will usually lead you there.
Do you prefer to solve handmade Sudokus over computer generated?
@SmartHobbies I'm not skilled in telling the difference, but there are definitely Sudoku creators who come out with some awesome puzzles.
16:31 for me.
Great job. How easy was it for you to spot the X-Wings?
