The second most prominent music instrument in this performance is "Shehnaai". Which is a magical instrument filled with emotions. You should definitely check out one of the greatest Shehnaai players "Ustad Bismillah Khan" live concert in London or Moscow.
Y'all should listen to her album Traveller - its a compositions in a blend of FLAMENCO and INDIAN CLASSICAL. Its amazing , Especially -Buleria Con ricardo , Si no Puedo verla , Boy meets girl and Casi Uno. They are honestly one of the best fusion of falmenco and Indian classical I have ever heard. The parts with Javier Limón are beyond heaven to my ears.
thats tanpura its for the scale refrence four string instrument and that is not dholak either its mridangam the strong string hits u heard in called tarab k taar which are below the main strings under the fret... so she is the one playing that with her little finger.
Growing up with Bollywood movies, I've been conditioned to feel extremely emotional everytime I hear a shehnai....that instrument always hits me in the feels
That's shehnai which is associated with auspicious occasions you guys must have seen it in the movie rockstar as well there is an entire song of just shehnai and guitar playing in tandem in rockstar
The “flute” is called a shenai and yes that is a smaller or ‘female’ travel size tanpura/tambura and the percussion is a South Indian instrument called a ‘mridangam’
That bansuri kind of instrument is called “shehnai” and dholak kind of instrument is a sound indian instrument called “mridang”, which is used instead of tabla in southern india. And that base kind of instrument is called tanpura or tambura. And what she was counting with her legs, if you notice, it was basically everytime the mridang player beats the left (hard side) of it, that’s also the bigger side of tabla if she had tabla player in the same setup.
That ‘flute like thing' is called the Shehnai/Shanai. Most notably, it's used in Wedding Ceremony in Bangladesh, West Bengal and probably other parts of the subcontinent. Interestingly, it's used to convey the 'separation'. The separation between bride and her family. You can check out a Bangla Wedding song called LILABALI from Coke Studio Bangla season 1. I think you would love that.
I still remember how I got introduced to her. When Norah Jones released her song "Happy Pills" i was very smitten by that song so I started discovering more of her songs. It was then I found out Norah Jones has an Indian Father Pt. Ravi Shankar and he has another biological daughter Anoushka Shankar. So I started exploring her ❤
the other stringed instrument is a Tanpura. Like the surmandal it also binds the octave and the harmony. Tan is the tone and melody and the pura means the one that completes. Tanpura = Tone and melody completer.
That is a Shehnai, a reeded wind instrument, very similar to the Armenian Duduk. One the best exponent of the Shehnai is Ustad Bismillah Khan. Check out some of his performances.
She actually has a whole ablum with flamenco fusion called “traveller” ….her concert in lyon france 2012 is the best one to react to but is more than an hour so my request would be for you guys to react to ‘buleria con ricardo’ from the same concert! I’ll link it down in my reply

Shehnai - ustad Bismillah khan.... Shehnai is used to dipict joy and sorrow. To understand the rhythm part of indian classical music i.e. tabla, mridangam etc. - U guyz need to watch the video - "tabla lesson with Pandit. Sanju sahai" ❤️
Any emotional moment in old Indian films would definitely have shehnai playing in the background score. Every Indian (or rather Hindu) marriages consist of Shehnai. Btw as of my knowledge ig this is Hindusthani. Sitar and Shehnai are primarily used in Hindustani music.
That continuous string sound is Tanpura. It plays only four notes. They tune it according to their raga and use it as a reference. That's how they know when and which note to come back to.
I think there is a very brief interview between two of the greatest musicians, Pt. Ravi Shankar (Anoushka's father) and Paco de Lucia where they discuss on where Indian Classical resembles flamenco (Watch it here .. th-cam.com/video/eBHIE__7E-8/w-d-xo.html)
You people should also know that when you watch a video about indian classical music, and you are reacting on it, basically most of it is about we chanting to our hindu gods. So when you use f words or any other words which are related to abused or inappropriate in your Catholic Church, that same logic applies to us as well plus actually it matters more for us. So please try to not to use f words or abusive words or any kind of inappropriate words when you watch Indian classical music. You do whatever you want when you watch bollywood music. But if you do that while watching indian music, it’s like you are going to your church on sundays and while being in the church, you are using inappropriate words. So please try not to do that if possible. Also i know some Indians will come to tell you that no it doesn’t matter. But bro it matters. That’s why i’m not telling you, just asking you to understand the culture since you keep saying that we want to learn more about indian culture.
