The movie "The Telemark Canal" from The Compass Shows is a movie with a duration of 2 hours and 43 minutes.
It shows the entire Telemark Canal in Norway from its beginning in the town Skien to the end in the town Dalen, which is an impressive place with 1000 meter high mountains and the cleanest water.
The trip is shown in a 56-foot motorboat in a way so you should feel like you are sailing the trip yourself.
The Telemark Canal was carved into the mountain well over 100 years ago and when the canal was completed in 1892 it was designated as one of the “eight wonders” in Europe. 500 men had worked for 5 years blowing up their way through the mountain. With a total of 18 lock chambers, the road paved from Skien and to Dalen, a 105 km voyage and with a height difference of 72 meters.
Long before the Telemark canal was built, the locals used rivers and waterways to transport goods and people. The roads in Telemarks were nearly impassable. Carts with wheels were impossible to use in several locations.
The waters made the traffic easier. Barges and boats were used until the waters froze over. During the winter season, the traffic went by horse over the ice.
The canal was called “Hurtigruten” (the fast route) between eastern Norway and Western Norway and was also the most important route between upper and lower Telemark for people, livestock, goods and timber.
Today, there are tourists from near and far who come to experience this unique waterway that looks just like it did a hundred years ago. The stone-walled lock walls, the huge lock gates, the opening and closing mechanism - everything is authentic.

Maximum hull dimensions in the lock chambers Length 100 feet = 31.4 m. Width 21 feet = 6.6 m. Cooling depth 8 feet = 2.4 m

I own a 1994, Bayliner 4788. I live in Sweden but keep my boat in California, this next spring I'm sailing her up to Puget Sound, which is up in Seattle and British Columbia to do some cruising up there. Maybe in about three years I'd like to move the boat to Sweden, we live just outside of Helsingborg, in Jonstorp, I'd like to know if you know what it would cost for me to ship the boat here to Sweden, or if you could recommend someone that I could talk to that could give me any advice and costs. I love your videos, I watch them over and over.
This is the second of your cruise video that I have watched. So soothing and the Music Enchanting. this video brings me back to when I was still working and had my own 44 Pacemaker. Retired now and not practical to own and operate .There is nothing like sailing a vessel with twin diesels and weighing in at 18.5 tones. Your trip reminds me of my times on the Trent canal and Rideau Canal here in Ontario Canada. I will be watching your videos over and over again, brings tears in my eyes. Thank You very, very much for sharing with this old boater..

What happened to your engines?
All locks in the canal are operated between 09.00 and 18.00 during the main season, which extends from the end of June to the middle of August.
So it's a short season.
We plan to sail up there in 2024

Oilcoolers on both engines had a leak, causing to push the oil out of the exhaust and sucking seawater in. The (2nd) engine update video is ready in a week from now.
So If I want to explore the canal myself I have to come over from the end of June and we have 6,7,8 weeks?

Hi Uwe. The boat is a Neptunus 156 with a beam of 4.75 meter. plenty of space on the sides, although it may not seem like it.
