Finding out that Christianity evolved from Judaism... which derived from Zoroastrianism ... was the beginning of my journey to atheism.
Or just admitting that I didn't really believe it to begin with.

@Joseph Polanco And *you* dare to use the word "grok" ... (shaking my head in disbelief)
You do not even seem to have any idea that there might be a difference between Asperger's and Autism.
Never mind that you claim there is _clear evidence of Jehovah God's necessary existence_ even through there is no such thing (evidence, that is). If there was, it would have been accepted by a vast majority. This has not happened.
Then there's your vague _other research even indicates that those with a low EQ have a greater propensity towards sadistic, Machiavellian, psychopathic, and/or narcissistic traits._
      a) show the research.
      b) show the equivalence of autism to low EQ.
      c) admit you are trying to pull a fast one --- and if your _Jehovah God_ is real and the 10 commandments are by that god, you have just gone and broken them. And indulged in some of the seven deadly sins, too, at the same time.
Do you even know where the word "grok" comes from?

The only reason people fear death is they have no true faith= relationship with thier Creator,,so therefore thier longing for the fulfillment of such a wonderful gift of being in such a precious relationship!! If people only read the Bible as if Christ was actually speaking to them ,as well as other conditions applied they would come to the knowledge of the relationship between Creator n creatied!!

@@ronaldsliski9585 People fear death because we have a built in evolutionary survival response. If we didn't have that, we would not have survived for very long early as a species. Our brains tell us we want to live. And not just humans. Everything that is alive has a similar flight or fight response to danger. But because of our massive frontal lobe, we can reflect and ruminate on this instinct leading to a more complex analyzation of our mortality. No one really knows what happens when we die and no one ever has. Certainly not primative, desert dwelling, nomadic sheep herders from 4000 years ago. All the evidence points to nothing happening. Do you remember what it was like before you were born? That's exactly what it will be like when you die. You simply will not exist. To anger a scientist, lie to him. To anger a religious person, tell them the truth. I would rather know the truth no matter how harsh, than be fooled into believe fairy tales. Such is the nature of a seeker. If God was real, he would be evident. He is anything but.

I've been an atheist for 2 years now. At that time, I had kept my religion in one box, and my understanding of science in another box. I came to the conclusion if my religion were true, there should be evidence to back it up. When I went through this, I had no idea who you were, and did not see your videos until after I had reached my conclusions. I was a young earth creationist. I removed the boxes from around my understanding, and looked for evidence for my religion. I found nothing. The evidence I did find led to logical contradictions which I could not resolve unless what I was raised to believe was false. If someone asks me, I'll tell them that I have to go with what has been observed. With no fall of man, no garden of Eden, no worldwide flood, the impossibility of the ark, all of the salvation story I was raised to believe falls apart. This all happened before I ever saw any of your videos.
I see a problem with the internet here. It is very easy to surround yourself in an echo chamber where the information you consider seriously resonates with what you want to believe, and dismiss anything that you disagree with, even should that be the truth which can be verified just by going out and testing it (cough cough flat earth cough cough). I have very much enjoyed watching your videos, along with Thunderfoot, Seth Andrews, Genetically Modified Skeptic, Paulogia, and others. The people I was watching/reading were Stephen Hawking, Neil DeGras Tyson, Hank Green, John Green, Brian Cox, Carl Sagan, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, the Bible, Ellen White, just to name a few.
    Keep up the good work.

at the same time, the internet is how AronRa changed his mind through forums and how he met his wife.
I worked at a company that had downtime between taking customer calls and I got to liking a channel debunking anti-science claims like anti-vax. They had some videos about religion and I watched them as a "well, I need to know what those atheists say so I can counter them." About 10 videos one there was 1 that really hit me, I had to pause it and think about various things they said. Then when I heard there was no evidence of Jesus I went "ok, let me look that up myself because of course there is" and there really isn't outside of stories. Now, he may have existed, but this idea made me look up more. I found AronRa's 'evolution of genesis' early on and man was that a kicker to me. That mixed with Talk Heathen, some of those "Tracie Harris going beast mode" and the like, discovering Christopher Hitchens only because "Hitchen's Razor" was mentioned. All of those things and looking up Iron Chariots and contradictions in the Bible made me lose my religion pretty quickly.

    • @warrensmith8161
      @warrensmith8161 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I am also a former Christian, and I agree with your echo chamber remark. I have found a great deal of evidence that allegory and its interpretation plays an important part in various religions, but no one else among the secular community appears willing to take this idea seriously. I suspect that much of the resistance to this view is because it is so much easier to discredit a literal Bible than an allegoric one. My view is that if the Bible can be accurately deciphered, much like a code, it will provide clear and undeniable evidence that the religions that rely it are complete frauds. For example, "good" will be revealed as a metaphor representing the suppression of truth.

The Unification of Matter/Energy into a Common Source is the current effective Lie just because it provides some control over The physical environment .... and The Delusion of The Self something that Humans consider as a Self-contained and Self evident irrefutable Truth ... or simply, The Lie that better work for themselves feeling in control of their bodies ....
The thing is that The Self is a contingent human psychological phenomenology ... Therefore, something that doesn't have the potential for discerning what exist beyond itself as Truth ....
Each time that You observe a Human using the first singular person pronouns ... You can safely bet that that Human had never tried to discern in depth about What The word Truth could mean beyond the scope of Their Self.

Excellent! I have shared this on my Facebook page with this preamble:
The myths of all religions are quite common. They share
    common roots.
Judeo-Christianity borrowed from older mythologies and religions.
We do not need gods to be good or even great people.
There was a time when disagreement with the prevailing religion
of the nation state was a death sentence. In some parts of the world today you will
still be murdered simply because you do not choose to believe.
If the Evangelical movement has its way, we will be thrust back into the dark ages.
Yes, I believe that people will be tortured and murdered for wanting to be free from
religion. And I also believe religious persecution can and will happen in the name of Jesus
in these United States if we are not diligent.
I appreciate Aron Ra because he articulates so well what I've come to
understand from my personal experiences with religion and spirituality.
We need to free ourselves from the darkness of all religious ignorance and live in the light
of reason and rejoice in our shared humanity.

The sadistic hospital put me in a room where the nearest smoking lounge was a mile away at the other edge of the property -- in the dead of winter and me not able to hobble even 100 feet. Since then, my otherwise adorable wife has refused to let me have more than one a year, "borrowed" from still-smoking friends, and my alcohol consumption is limited to half a glass every 6 months or so -- on special days like New Year's Eve.

At some point in evolution, we developed and "inner voice" we call consciousness. When we had that, and language, someone was the first to admit to others they heard a voice in their head. I always figure THAT was the origin of religion.

"God would have to be a better communicator than that" really remains at the core of my "what if anything would ever change your mind?" belief.
If you make a claim that an *omnipotent* being with *infinite magic powers* exists that *wants humanity to know what it expects from us* then a 2000+ year old mish mash of contradictory claimed history, fables, and poetry with no attempt whatsoever made to distinguish the three is not it.
I would expect a gigantic magic book, falling from the sky, onto an island that just erupted out of the ground, that, when even glanced at by anyone, of any language or even illiterate, would instantly copy its entire contents into their brain 100% *exactly* as the author intended with no room for interpretation. Recordings and photos would share these properties.
*Not one* religious person has given me a good reason why their god, which they claim meets all of those qualities, has not done this. It would unite literally everyone of every denomination on earth, and do it within a few hours given the speed of the internet nowadays. As opposed to the bible, which has thousands of translations which people have murdered each other over differences in since the quill was first put to parchment.

Fanatics have immunized themselves even against this scenario. Probably they would claim it was a deception of satan to further his evil agenda to start a "New Age one world religion". If Jesus would actually have his second coming they would beat him to death as a deceiver and imposter. It's the perfect closed worldview.

The slime molds are a great example! I'm deeply impressed by what ants achieve as a result of an emergent process: not one member of a colony actually thinks or has an understanding of the colony's complexity, as an individual they are just following a set of rather simple rules, but the result is incredible sophisticated and as a whole even able to solve complex problems. It's almost as if the sum of all ants are brain (each ant similar to a neuron) and a body at the same time. Astounding!

About the fact that you can prove something and people still reject it, the Monty Hall problem was brought up in a family gathering, and there were some people that didn't think I was correct. I explained it logically, and when that didn't work, I ran through all 9 possibilities and showed that I was correct, and some still thought it was a 50-50 chance. This was not a world-view changing revelation, but a simple mathematical fact. If a problem as simple as this can't be shown, I can see how they would not belive any proof of evolution when all the facts can't be written on a single piece of paper and it goes against what they've been taught.

@Joseph Polanco Where shall I begin. We know the earth is 4.5 billion years old not a few thousand and the universe is 14 billion years old and was not created at the same time as earth. We know this through geology, mathematics and astronomy to name but a few. We know the universe does not need a god to function as we know how stars, planets and galaxies form and die. Ni signs of any god there. We know life was not created in a day and animals were not intelligently designed. Through studying fossils and DNA we've confirmed that it takes millions of years for species to evolve through the process known as evolution by natural selection. We know there was no great flood thanks to studies in biology, zoology, geology, metrology and archaeology. There are also ZERO first hand accounts of any of the events in the bible so that immediately disqualifies that as a source of evidence for your imaginary friend.
Now i'll ask you to do the same. And don't say "We don't know what caused the big bang so must be god." That my friend is not evidence, it's an assumption based on a lack of evidence. Good luck.

Interesting thought on paul. He wanted to become a Christian but couldn't join up simply because he was the persecutor and therefore needed a good reason for them to allow him to be a part of the system that would be accepted. What better than a direct revelation from god?

No, why would I want to? I'm not in the mood to "shuffle off this mortal coil", so to speak, so won't rush things like that.
I don't see how your magical invisible friend CAN exist, so am definitely not going to follow the directions of a 2,000 year-old con artist who was convincing his followers that the "second coming" was imminent at THAT time and it was time to give all their worldly possessions away -- to him, preferably.
We KNOW it didn't happen then, so it's even less likely to happen now that belief in those particular myths has dwindled. Selling everything off would be giving up on living LIFE, and that's just defeatist, not even trying to stem the tide. I'm not built that way. I will NOT "go softly in the night", but will fight my demise with every tool in my kit.
BTW, I MET my makers. I Got to know them somewhat when I was a kid. They died years ago. (parents)

@Michael Brown Oh man I've never heard that one before! Thank you for opening my eyes to the shear unoriginality of christians. Next time why not try actually researching points. Just because you can't understand eye evolution doesn't make it impossible. Telling your opponent that you don't understand their position won't help, at all.
Number two: I really don't care what Darwin said (I highly doubt he said that) because Darwin isn't the end all of evolution. He isn't some authority because evolution isn't a religion. It might be hard for you to grasp but I don't feel the need to worship ANYONE.

    • @kennyobi9871
      @kennyobi9871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Michael Brown no Idea why you posted this twice but whatever. I frankly don't care about Darwin. He's not the "Pope" of evolution, he didn't even discover evolution. All he did was explain natural selection.
The evolution of the eye may have confused him but I am not him, I live in a different time, one were we do understand the evolution of the eye and maybe someday you will too.
My advice: If you don't understand go understand. I just watched some videos and read some articles ; makes sense to me.
Light sensitive cells, pinhole, crystal covering, lens, fluid, etc. Of course it's not that simple but I trust scientists over priests any day.
Even if evolution isn't true that doesn't make your religion true or any religion for that matter.

    • @kennyobi9871
      @kennyobi9871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Michael Brown Oh I think I see the problem! You see natural selection isn't the only mechanism of evolution. Mutation is also a mechanism and there are many different types of mutations. Insertions, deletions, gene duplications, nucleotides being miss matched or failure to fix genetic damage in a gamete, translocations, horizontal gene transfer, etc.
Okay here's some advice most athiests don't care about dawkins. I never even knew he existed until a year after becoming an atheist. I'm more interested in the ancient canaanite, zoroastrian, and pagan origins of Judaism.
That's not to say I have never delved into evolution or probiotic chemistry but forgive me if I don't sound like an expert because I'm not one. You definitely aren't one. If you think not understanding something refutes it then your the one living in another reality.
I might not understand eye evolution to the point where I can explain every genetic mutation in detail but I understand nanog genes, endogenous retroviruses, transitional fossils, and chromosome fusion. I understand rna chain replication, and how ribosymes work to some extent.
So tell me why should I drop everything I've learned, everything that amazes me, to worship a genocidal maniac?
