- Construction d'une antenne J-Pole pour mon appartement en tubes de cuivre. Elle couvre la bande radio amateur des 2m. belle video fabriquer y a 3ans la j pole ca fonctionne tres bien a2m du sol dans le jardin tester avec 5w 50km sans probleme la mienne faite avec fil cuivre 2.5mm 73s

Hello , I have a question about what kind of material is bert for making j pole antennas, they tell me that it is copper other that fiberglass, which one do you recommend and why? and one last question that happens if i put a copper coil inside the small arm of the antenna which benefits can i generate?

The material needs to be a conductor, so copper is best, easy to find and solder. Any metal would work. Adding a coil can only create problems.

As has already been observed, Gill, you need more heat on these joints. Also, the way I was taught to make joints in copper pipe is first clean the pipe and any associated fitting, then apply the flu and heat until the flux melts. Then apply the solder, not under the burner flame, but to the opposite side of the joint. If the work is hot enough the solder will flash around the joint. It works for me, give it a go.

I'm surprised the support length you added didn't detune completely. That contact sure was nice though

J poles work better with nothing electrically attached to the J shape itself, in your case the lower "extension" or mast spoils the radiation pattern and induces issues of mast currents, among others. They still work, but not as well as they can. Hope this helps. I have references I can pass on with studies on this subject. Best regards. :)
Videos in french are fine, I just wish you added subtitles so I can learn while I watch. My french is a bit weak these days.

I found the autogenerated/autotranslated subs were enough to bridge my weak french. They didn't do anything for the guy on the radio though, at best he became [music] ;P

Somebody's got the copper plumbing soldering bug. Something the plumbers do is wipe the excess solder from the outside of the joint with a wet rag to make it look neater. You could use a hotter torch though, but you have most of your work already done. You are going to have the nicest looking new antennas on your balcony. Good thing you are painting them to hide the fact you have a lot of copper just sitting there.

You may find it easier if you "tin" the joint before finally soldering them in. Heat up, apply flux and solder (not too much) wipe clean while still hot; you should have complete coverage but just the minimum of solder. Then you can push the parts together, heat up and apply a bit of solder to the edge of the join. Make sure you have enough heat for the solder to flow properly.

Here we stick them together, then apply plenty of heat, then some more, and some more.
Then turn off the flame, apply flux and apply solder.
If the copper is hot enough, the solder should just flow on. (without applying flame)
Sry for the English, only had 1 year French at school 35 years ago was not enough to write all this in French.

Salut,le J-pole c'est une super antenne pour le 2m et 6m, j'en ai utillisées de longue années sur ces 2 band sous mon call KE6, mais cette antenne comme la slim-jim n'est pas omnidirectionel à 100%, bst 73's from HB9 country

Bonjour, pour avoir fabriqué une J sur 2m, je la trouve moins efficace qu'une 5/8ème, qui de plus, pourra etre fixée sur une embase magnetic sur la rembarde du balcon. Une 5/8ème peut etre réalisé avec un simple brin d'acier en faisant 3spires à la base. Enfin c'est ce que j'ai ressenti à l'utilisation. Merci pour ce beau tuto ! au plaisir de croiser les aériens, je suis F 1.
Bonjour Gil. etant un grand fan de tes vidéos j'aimerais avoir tes conseils pour me construire une jpole 446 mhz...j'aimerais savoir quelles sont les données à rentrer dans le calculateur slim/jim je suppose que dans le champ fréquence je dois introduire 446 mais dans le champ velocity factor j'ai un doute. Ok, je dirais 0.9... Ou le défaut du calculateur... Je n'utilise pas de BALUN/Choke... A essayer sans d'abord...

You need to use much more heat than that! I’m not sure if it’s called the same in France, but you need a gas torch that uses ‘map” gas. It burns hotter. The solder joints you have done, have not flowed properly Gil.

You should keep your flame a bit more to the fittings. Not the flame melts the solder but the copper which you heat ;-)
Just think the copper would be the soldering tip of your soldering iron.
Nevertheless, a successful construction, and the antenna works.

Oui tu voit bien une antenne type j mais faite d un brin dans un tube ça marche bien aussi
La Slim-Jim est cencée être un peu meilleure mais en pratique je doute que ça fasse une grosse différence..

@@RadioPrepper un bout de ruban de mètre a mesurer enrouler en trombonne au tour d un tube PVC deux morceaux de domino fendus sans isolent pour les prise coaxial et c est parti
Gil you can also use that "J" Pole antenna on 70 cm band as well =) Check it out =) I built a nested three band UHF / VHF "J" pole antenna for 2 M / 1.25 M / 70 CM all in one pole so each band had a coax connector for each radio and band =)

C'est agréable de ne pas massacrer l'anglais .. Pour info depuis Uzes qui est à 110 mètres de haut et avec une dipôle Wimo 144 j'arrive à me connecter au pic de Bertagne dont le relais est à environ 140 km de dîstance et 1000m de haut, avec à peine un VX7 yaesu "comme si j'y étais"
Je suppose qu'aucun obstacle géométrique ne s'interpose évidemment.

Super, oui, la VHF m'étonne beaucoup... Avec de la hauteur...
73' 51' Au lieu de percer pour les points d'alimentation, il fallait fabriquer une réglette coulissante et ce avec des colliers qu'on utilise pour fixer les tubes aux murs. Tu aurait pu régler au mm près et ce sans savoir repercer ou couper quoi que ce soit. Je suis en train d'en réaliser une pour le 11m mais an Alu. Sur la page French DX sur FB, un OM en a réaliser une, on attends les essais et donc les côtes définitives pour que je me lance dans l'assemblage.

@@RadioPrepper alors je t'explique suis électricien de métier et connaissances en Electronique je transforme aussi des antennes télé bas de gamme en antennes directives qui nécessitent aucun réglage de TOS donc je suis d'accord avec toi pour une isolation électrique ,moi je te parle du cote magnétique c'est comme ci tu branchais une antenne de voiture sans la poser sur le toit et après quand tu la pose sur le toit ton TOS descend tres vite c'est une histoire de magnétisme.
@@RadioPrepper C'est un effet magnetique approche de masse metallique ca fait comme une antenne de voiture sans la poser tu as du tos et quand elle est fixée sur ta voiture tu n'as pas de tos c'est un effet plan de masse je connais tres bien ces effets je suis electricien de metier je sait de quoi je parle
Pas du tout. C'est en fait similaire à une antenne Zep. Le quart d'onde du bas alimente en baissant l'impédance de la demi-onde au dessus. Pas besoin de plan de masse puisque c'est une demi-onde. Le plan de masse c'est pour les quarts d'onde. Ce plan de masse crée un quart d'onde virtuel qui avec le plan de masse de la voiture va en quelque sorte faire une demi onde. La J-Pole est déjà une demi onde...
