35 miles away was nothing. Some hurricanes can get severe hundred miles across. One hurricane was superimposed over Texas and it was almost that size, and Texas is very large.
A tornado came through the Keys and a friend of mine was in his trailer. Suddenly he heard loud crashes and his trailer was shaken. As it turned out both his neighbors trailers had slammed up against his. Another friend was watching TV when a tornado dropped a huge tree into her living room and stopped at her feet. After doing the repairs she had me stucco the trailer, and add stonework so that she could feel more secure. Hurricanes and tornadoes are nothing to fool around with.
In one part you can see he's crouching behind his pickup truck. The wind is blowing past instead of into the camera. Plus it's going so fast it doesn't stick.

I was waiting to see if that two story house was still there. It was. May God bless you all with safety. That is incredible. I can't imagine hours and hours of that.
I appreciate you doing this video. Raw footage is what I was looking for. The news stations show some but they constantly talk too much. Your video with the sound of heavy wind and rain speaks volumes...no words necessary.
I went through at least a dozen hurricanes. Four of those were in Asia where they are called Typhoons. Every single time, houses built of wood goes first. What is left are houses built with reinforced concrete. So my question is, why continue building with wood when reinforced concrete is stronger and better?
Wonder the same thing. Denial, maybe? Lumber industry used to be big in the US? The answer in my country is usually money with a nice helping of exploitation. Also, the American insurance industry creates odd human behavior imho. Good question, though.
I was just going to comment that it is like a tornado that never stops when the tornado hit. Unbelievable! God please keep them safe. A Colorado Mountain Grandma
Exactly my thought. Here in Germany we don't have hurricanes but our houses are made of concrete or bricks. With that many tornados and hurricanes happening in the US you should definetely build them like this too
Brick and block laying takes skill and it takes time. Plus you can buy more square footage with stick building for the same price.People don't consider fires or tornadoes. Masons are aging out of the market. Young men are told to go to college and get a degree in gender studies and come out with debts and a negative attitude towards trades and tradesmen.
In my 65 years this is the best storm footage I have ever seen, you are a better man than I am to have been in the midst of this. This is what people need to see when they say get out.
My heart just breaks for the people in Louisiana. They still aren't 100% from Katrina and now Ida?! Im thinking of all those people and sending all my good energy and love their way.
It's been 16 years. Everything has been fixed. While I wish nobody harm, the people affected were given every opportunity to leave. Why people decide to stay is just beyond me. You'd think people would learn from history. So....yeah for the one's that could leave but didn't, "you reap what you sow. "
It's never always an easy answer. Ppl stay for various reasons. Money, pets, not being able to come back after storm and not knowing when u can come back ... I used to wonder until I went through Michael myself and had to stay instead because of those reasons above.
@@lauraloy1657 I get that. I'm not knocking the people that can't leave. If I had no way to carry my dogs you can bet I'd stay, but all it takes is a little room in a vehicle and some gas money. I'd gladly drive 100-150 miles and sleep in the vehicle at a rest area or something.
Prayers for everyone involved. I went through these as a kid. The damage from a high Cat 3 was indescribable. Seeing this wind, I’m at a loss to explain how little damage is pictured here. Steel building tin torn loose, a carport cover lifted, a very exposed wall collapsed at a post office. My memories include churches totally destroyed, a department store’s complete roof collapsed, airport hangars turned to scrap piles and the planes flipped over. A hotel with every window blown out. Homes with their entire roof structures peeled off, other homes totally destroyed. Almost every tree in the city down. I fear that this sample can’t be Ida’s worst.
God please protect everyone in Louisiana especially south.I have been through several storms and each one was different so do not underestimate the power of any storm because it could be a fatal mistake I just pray that no one looses there life as far as structural damage it can always be rebuilt.
Watching from the UK, where are homes are double layers of brick & concrete blocks with heavy tile or slate roofs. So watching your wooden homes with shingles or tin roofs we feel you learnt nothing from the 3 Little pigs story as a child. Praying for you 🇬🇧🙏
This looks way worse than what we got some years ago. The power outage was the worst They cut the power off. Put it back on the same day and all the switching panels seemed to need a reset which took 4-5 days. Almost felt like dying from 5 days with no AC and 99*/95% humidity
I remember when I lived in Bimini, Bahamas, my friend (a Bahamian) told me that a hurricane came and blew the peaked roof off their house and his mama was missing. Three days later fishermen found her alive in the upturned roof eight miles off shore. Now when a big storm is coming she gets real quiet and climbs up into the rafters.
@Zo Diary I can imagine. I have witnessed severe winds here, once or twice but thankfully it`s very rare that we get anything close to what you are seeing. Keep Safe and well my friend 👍.

Best footage on here so far. I felt like I was sitting in the truck with you. Thanks
I wanna see this guy's camera setup. I cannot figure out how he's keeping the rain from covering his lens.
I think he is literally under the truck possibly
He's gotta be in a dump truck, excavater something like that. God have mercy on him.
The velocity the rain is travelling at it almost seems like more of a projectile than water.
He’s probably inside his truck not outside
In one part you can see he's crouching behind his pickup truck. The wind is blowing past instead of into the camera. Plus it's going so fast it doesn't stick.
And thank you for real actual footage
"It's not THAT the wind is blowin', it's WHAT the wind is blowin" - Ron White
I mean sometimes it is THAT the wind is blowing when you're talking about how fast it is blowing
@@outspoken5808 not really..it's the debris that it picks up and throws is what you need to worry about. A small thing becomes a projectile with enormous energy.

I would love to be a 'Storm chaser'. Born n raised in Florida this is exciting to me with little fear. Cudo's to you guys for riding this mother nature out. So much more can be learned about mother nature's fury because of your bravery. Thank you.
People were ripping Al Roker yesterday even. They just don't get it
Since you like so much riding out a big one it's coming for you
Women can't be storm chasers.
Yeah it looks really exciting. I don't know if I would go in a situation like the fellas in the vid tho lol
It is a testament to the construction on that house , to still be standing after that. Also........who was the idiot who left the boom up on the crane?
One of my last years in Sofl East coast booms came down in winds. Some just don't learn.
It breaks my heart to watch someones dreams be ripped away 😰
For every light on Broadway, someone has had their dreams shattered.

This is fantastic footage. I’ve seen a lot of storm footage over the years but these clips seem so much more “real” than most. I don’t know what it is but I could almost feel the force of the wind while watching this. Great work on shooting and sharing this footage.
You’re one of the best storm chasers out there. Not a storm waiter like most of the rest. Incredible footage!
He has an advantage, his 50 pound balls anchor him in place so the wind can't sweep him away
That white 2 story house, his camera and his balls are all apparently made from Kevlar plated titanium.
Native Floridian here, be safe guys. Awesome footage.

@Robert W GOD didn't send the hurricane. You were taught some wrong theology.
@Robert W that is about the best comment I've ever read when it comes to answering people sending prayers. We really need to think this through a little more. I do not believe God is in this picture,. And if he is he sure is a sinister son of a b****
I was waiting to see if that two story house was still there. It was. May God bless you all with safety. That is incredible. I can't imagine hours and hours of that.
Is god the one that’s causing this?

I appreciate you doing this video. Raw footage is what I was looking for. The news stations show some but they constantly talk too much. Your video with the sound of heavy wind and rain speaks volumes...no words necessary.
Whoever built that post office appearantly didnt strap down those roof trusses🤔 Wheres the building inspector there? drunk?
Roof straps aka hurricane clips are not required on commercial buildings, just residential
im more interested why the brick wall failed
yeah......they cut corners......Should have been better secured.

@@matthewgibbs6886 no internal support just the bricks itself poor development aka cheap development
Until it’s made in CheatNa tofu concrete that is.
I ain't pretty.
Yeah, all great, until the earthquake comes. Then only the wooden structures remain. Nature chooses the outcomes and nothing is permanent.
Also all brick or block structures are the absolute best!!! Stated as the wife and mother of bricklayers!!! 5 generations!!!
To the cameraman that found himself a tornado i pray to god you're still alive. Brave doesn't fully express the balls you have.
brave ?
His humongous balls held him down just fine lol!!
When he said "Here we go...wheeeewwwwwww!" All I could say was respect. Massive balls.
Tornado? Oh, please. Tornadoes form on the edges of hurricane systems, not in the centers. 2 different kinds of storm systems.
Not brave Kate, plain stupid.
I was just going to comment that it is like a tornado that never stops when the tornado hit. Unbelievable! God please keep them safe. A Colorado Mountain Grandma
God bless you
I don’t know why in the south, we’re not building concrete block hones anymore. This is ridiculous
My home is made out of brick
Exactly, I was in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria and the homes and structures that were the least impacted were made from concrete.

Weird isn't it, you think they would have the common sense to move after the first one......wait, this is the US LOL.
They went through 2 big ones last year too.
As a Hurricane Hugo Survivor from 1989 my sympathies and prayers go out to all of these dear people
I've been in 75-85 mph wind gusts, but never saw winds like this. I'm praying for everyone there.
the calculation from a cat 1 to a cat 4 is 133 times more powerful.
Praying for you 🇬🇧🙏
I was thinking something along that line. These buildings are made to blow away. I'm in Texas.
Praying for everyone down there!, the wind is so unforgiving!.
God is forgiving though.
I can honestly say I don't miss living in Florida or coastal South Carolina for this reason, praying for everyone in its path 🙏.
I live not far from Myrtle Beach know what you mean.
Brings back memories here in SW Fl. Praying for everyone there...
Hello 👋 greetings from royal FAMILY?
This looks way worse than what we got some years ago. The power outage was the worst They cut the power off. Put it back on the same day and all the switching panels seemed to need a reset which took 4-5 days. Almost felt like dying from 5 days with no AC and 99*/95% humidity
All fun and games until he yells “TORNADO! Hold on, buddy, here we go!” Have you lost your ever-lovin’-mind?! 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
🤣It’s not a funny situation and I pray for their safety, but when he said hang on buddy… I couldn’t help but to laugh.

Please bless the people that stayed.
I remember when I lived in Bimini, Bahamas, my friend (a Bahamian) told me that a hurricane came and blew the peaked roof off their house and his mama was missing. Three days later fishermen found her alive in the upturned roof eight miles off shore.
Now when a big storm is coming she gets real quiet and climbs
up into the rafters.
Poor mama
Hoping that things work out for the folks in Louisiana. Let's hope help arrives quickly.
I doubt that Biden can handle a hurricane. He has yet to even mention it.
Unfortunately, the bumbling idiots of our government will drop the ball. We the people, will have to take care of our own.
