      I’m a 46 and half black. Very little wrinkles so far but lately I feel like my white half is catching up to me. My eyelids have started droop past my chin it seems like.😭😭 Got this from my white mama (bless her heart).

      Its more to do with lifestyle. Dont drink, smoke and limit coffee. Basics. Exercise + diet. Sunscreen

      Almost 50 year old here, who gets mistaken for being in my 20’s- I am mixed, black, white and American Indian. I have worn SPF 30+ religiously since I was in my 20’s. 😊
      Sunlight causes about 90% of signs of aging (including sagging skin).

    In addition to melanin, we moisturize our skin daily. Our skin got moisturized by our mothers right out of the womb. We also exfoliate our skin through the use of washcloths

      Why a problem ? Are we supposed to colonize the moon, mars and flee from the sun, never touching our skin or should we colonize the sun ?
      Be logic, as much as our eyes hate the sun, and love to watch the moon.
      Try to use a telescope for the sun 😵, is there some moonglasses to protect our eyes ?

    I'm 58 years old and absolutely appreciating being Black. My skin is radiant, healthy and I see all my aging relatives looking well also, despite our graying hair. Our skin may sag a bit as we age, but actual wrinkes are few.
    When my 85 year old grandmother died years back, we were amazed at the quality of her skin, and that was before the embalming! May she RIP. 😂 💖

      My Black grandmother just turned 90. Same for her. Skin drooping a bit but she has very few wrinkles. Her hands also still look good! I feel good about my future 🙌🏾😆

      I'm 100% white (eastern European) and due to my greasy skin I'm very youthful looking. I used to hate my greasy skin while i was a teen but now I find it a blessing. I never had any fillers, botox or lifting and don't need it.

      On average if bp or melanated take care of themselves or at least fairly, they will look younger. On the other hand, I've sent bp younger than me that I thought was my age or older

    Thank you for this doctor . I am a black woman who just turned 40 and most people think I look 27 or 28. Some don’t even believe my age. It used to bother me but not anymore . I have a few Caucasian friends that want to know if there is a secret to me looking even sometimes younger than them who are in their late 20s. I don’t want to hurt their feelings l. The truth is genetics and yes my brown skin. All I said were it’s my genetics. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    Huge jealousy factor towards black women. Especially in the workplace. Imagine being told you are the most beautiful, then here comes the woman, maybe older looking 15 years younger and fabulous!     Melanin is a gift and I'm grateful for it. I know I look younger for my years because of it. However, we age just like everyone else. All sorts of skin changes appear particularly after 50/60. Focusing on wrinkles blinds us to the type of changes melanin rich people experience. There is no way you'd confuse a 60 year old black man with his 30 year old counterpart. Not happening. Happy the skin care industry is doing more research into our skin and providing solutions.

    My mother was in the hospital and the nurse who was attending had her colleagues come to her room to see her because she couldn't believe mom was 70 she thought she was in her late thirties or early forties. They couldn't believe it. My mother doesn't have a wrinkle or blemish on her skin. Her skin is so smooth like peanut butter.

      My grandmother died at 94....the mortician called my mom and told her she had to come confirm she had the right body .... she had another lady who was 65 and looked 100+ meanwhile my grandma looked like a 60 year old

    Thank you for this video. I think there is a growing understanding that a 'one size fits all' approach to skincare is outdated. TH-camrs like Dr Vanita Rattan has really helped to shape my understanding of that. So as a black woman I welcome videos like these. Would be really interested in finding out how botox and fillers can be used safely in darker skin types.

    What ive noticed with dark skin vs fair skin in aging is fair skin tends to gets crepy wrinkling but dark tends to fold ... also ive seen peaple with face lifts who's skin is tight yet they still look old ,which makes me think its not just the skin that ages you 🤔

      @@sladewilson377 it does play a huge role. A lot of families in my country have skin that wrinkles easily but with the use of modern moisturizers this has prevent the dramatic wrinkling prevalent in our skin. And this is dark skin

      Usually, cocoa butter or Shea butter with exfoliation once a week or 2 should help. My scars disappear when I look up. I even noticed my toes skin is smooth and even tone.

    This is nothing new. Black people have been saying this for years! I'm 61 yrs, my skin is still smooth, like a 30 yr old. Even with me being in the sun since a child! I thank God for my deep brown skin.

    I’m a light skin olive (Hispanic); and I look young for my age, so does my cousins who are lighter than me. The reason is staying out of the sun when strong and eating healthy. I will hopefully one day move to a colder climate, to protect my skin more!

    My sister and I, both Black women, are 41 and 42, both get mistaken for being in our middle-20s all the time. Our mother, at 75, could easily pass for 50. Melanin, sunscreen, ceramides have been very very good to us.

I don't know where you are located but myself, I was born in Africa and never heard about sun cream or seeing a black person with a skin cancer (no saying there is no case at all as there will always be collateral damage and exceptions) but it's not common.
      Curry on wearing the sun scream you will find out which one is worse and of course no one will stay under the sun 24/7 as know its excessive use can hurt anyone and even the planet itself.

    The reason that tanning is so popular is because darker skin hides flaws. You don't see the contrast of shadows as much and it also makes you appear thinner.

      Tanning slows down the wrinkle process . But it’s a temporary effect you have there. that will eventually run out. White skin inherently wrinkles earlier.

      White people can be of darker skinned tones too. I’m assuming your from southern Europe. Southern Europeans age better. Northern and Eastern Europeans age the worst.

      @@ZsaraFNW it makes sense but it’s a temporary fix. Tanning can only go so far in reducing it. It’s kinda like how different metals rust at different rates but you can’t stop the inevitable. It’s kinda like how you can slow down iron from melting by putting oil on it. But that’s a temporary fix. At some point, the tanning you do won’t be able to help you anymore. But you do look good for your age but I can see wrinkle lines but other than that the rest of the face looks youthful

Just as “bulletproof glass” is actually bullet-resistant, lighter or pure white skin can only be resistant to wrinkles with proper care but will inherently wrinkle faster compared to darker skin tones, no matter how healthy the lifestyle. The structural and functional characteristics of light skin create this predisposition.@ I’m also in the UK but black but knowing that you’ve had tanning. It makes sense as to why your wrinkles won’t be as noticeable yet. Tanned white skin ages better

    We don't age the same but to compensate we do scar. As a teen my (white) hubby had the skin on his bicep burned off by a hot motorcycle tailpipe. These days he has to check both arms to remember which one it was. I get a cat scratch on my hand and the scar is still there 2 yesrs later. It balances out. 😕

    I am 57 and no one ever guesses it. Never drink never smoke. Never sun bathed and never had a sunburn. Since the age of 27 I have exercised 5 days a week.
    I wear next to no makeup and have done so for decades. I don't eat fried food. I've also never had kids which I know can age you. But that's not the reason I didn't have kids 😂.

    I am so proud to be a Black American descendants of enslaved Africans. We don’t age like others with lighter skin. That is the beauty in being of darker skin. I say this because so many want to be light or white. Not knowing it ages much quicker. So I feel blessed. Ask white folks why they tan.

    I have medium to dark skin and if you look at my skin the wrong way I get hyperpigmentation. I get hyperpigmetation just from plucking a random hair out from my chin, same with a small pimple. I'm 46 but I didn't start getting any wrinkles until around 42yo. I also have ehlers danlos syndrome with hypermobility and I have noticed that a lot of people with EDS look younger. However, we're prone to loose skin. Thanks for this video..

      Check your vitamin D & iron levels. I was like this, and I had those deficiencies... Since they're up now, I've no issues.

    My mother, my aunts, and her friend are all past 60. I'm yet to see any wrinkles. We're African. Our traditional diet, I believe, also has a lot to do with it.

    Wow, so true , me having Spanish- sicilian background I belong to what they call csucasian Olive skin type, and I tan beautifully BUT I have hiperpigmentation in the face. Once a Ungarian doctor used laser on my skin to get rid of a flake it was so bad that it took me ten years to recover the skin color

      @@twiztedsk Pico lasers. The only type suitable for skin which hyperpigments. He literally says it. I have the same type of skin as you describe, and have had Pico sure to get rid of age spots, it worked well.

      Pale skin with green blue eyes are recessive traits. The europeans have lifted up their recessive traits as the "beauty standard " in the world cuz they control the media and the narrative.

    I have to prove my age all the time from when I was in my teens and now I am 61. Yesterday a man I met thought I was 45ish. it’s very disconcerting when in Afrika as I am not accorded the respect a 61 year old is usually given. They don’t believe I am a senior citizen and therefore can’t go to the top of the queue and have been chided for doing so in public. Embarrassing. 6:41

    I'm Black but I actually used tanning oil and laid out last summer to deepen my skin tone. I felt renewed! My digestion improved, I felt happier, and had the best sleep I've had in years! I plan on getting JET BLACK next summer like Adam and Eve! 🍎 💕

    Where I grew up, we don’t have sun screen never did, we played all day in the sun and even now in my older age I spend my days in the sun. I have never gotten a sun burn, seared, dry, nothing. I am actually fascinated to know what it feels like, having heard about it so much. I just sweat a ton then back in the sun the next day. 55 years later, nothing.

    Why are people afraid to call it what it is. It’s not darker skin types. Its black peoples that age slower. I’m light skin black person (not mixed) and my complexion is close to some white ppl. I still age slower. Some people still think I’m 30 at 50. I’m always disappointed when someone thinks I’m 40. They never guess 50. But Ethiopian tend to age faster as well as mixed black people.

    You can say Black. African American is an ethnicity, not a replacement for “Black.” That’s like saying Mexican when you mean Latinos or Chinese when you mean Asian. Just say Black if you aren’t talking about Black people who descend specifically from the US slave trade.
