In the 70s, Heller also did it in France, I had done it, of course not at this level...lol On the other hand, big mistake that many make, the flag back, it must go forward, if the sails are inflated, it is that they have wind back. So flag the bow of the boat....😉
This is a dream come true, I used to make builds with my father who introduced me to the modelling world, and honestly the HSM Victory was hard enough. I hope one day I am able to work on this myself as my dad has really shaky hands and will not able to work on this. I wish I could just get it now to work with him on it before it is too late. :( Anyway, this model is gorgeous. Congratulations to the people working on this model.

I am working on the Heller version for the third time, and each time I go for a different color scheme...there is nothing wrong with realism, however, I look at it as an artistic endeavor, and as such, I don't want to be forced to have to do only one color arrangement.
I think if you modify this kit to match the stern to the real drawings form the soleil Royal you can get a very fine model. In this case I can't see the reworked into the museum model of the soleil Royal what you shouldn't do because of its wide stern. This is going to be a really beautiful model if made good.
Amazing! I wonder how much the price is for a complete and finished built model can be. And how much would I get for a half-built model that is almost finished, but not complete.

It's very beautiful and I'm leaning towards this one over the Panart. There are some carvings on the side that are missing, any plans for an upgrade kit perhaps? Since you are doing CAD anyway. I would not mind paying the additional fee, as the carvings on the stern seem to be very high quality. Good to see 3D modeling in favour of the outdated lost wax method.
The Artesania Latina Le Soleil Royal is beautiful! But, it is missing a key detail; the extravagant decorations of the upper hull. Her line look good, she is well-detailed, but this omission is striking to me.

I would appreciate a closer look at the cannons. One weakness of plank-on-bulkhead ship-of-the-line models is that they use the same sized cannons on every deck instead of the different weights of cannons on each deck. The one photo I've seen seems to show different sizes but I'm not sure.

I would suggest getting a plank bender and basic modeling tools, such as tweezers, precision cutters, a ruler, and a sanding block. You can find those at their website.

I too have built the Heller plastic model many years ago and was good training for future boats. The detail instructions were in French only and lost in translation.

From what I've read, she carried twenty-eight cannons on her lowest gun deck. There should be fourteen ports per side, maybe fifteen at the most; not sixteen as on the model. I don't like the way the rings around the upper gun ports look; and I think that there would be carvings between them. But the bow and stern look spectacular.
J'ai réalisé cette maquette à ma sauce. Car le manuel de montage vidéo ou papier est très mal fait. La qualité du kit est très moyenne. Aucun soin aux pièces moulées. Absence de vraies poulies, petites pièces juste en nombre... Il faudrait refaire le manuel de montage car il comporte beaucoup d'erreur. Les bois fournit dans le kit sont des bois blancs uniquement et c'est déplorable au regard du prix. Bref j'ai du remettre environ 300€ de ma poche pour finaliser le bateau.

C'est un kit considéré pour les experts, donc en qualité de personne "expert", je suis à même d'anticiper les erreurs à ne pas faire. J'ai quasiment fait toute la gamme de Artesania( 50 ans de réalisation), il me manquait les plus chers comme le Wasa ou le soleil royal. J'ai pas encore réalisé le Wasa. En ce qui concerne le soleil royal, pour 800€, jemattendais à autre chose. Je suis décu de la composition du kit. C'est de la médiocre qualité, les pièces moulées sont affreuse, absence de bois noble, pas de support de qualité du bateau (type plance en chène ou noyer) 800€ c'est pas rien quand même!!! Avant le soleil royal j'ai réalisé le Nepumenceno et franchement la qualité est bien meilleur pour une somme quasi de moitié. Il en va de même pour le Bounty. Bref je pousse mon coup de G....le pour le soleil royal. C'est du profit au sens propre du terme pour ne pas employé un mot plus cru.

not a really good model. It is true that a lot of things have been improved that are not true of the competition. But they made new mistakes again. Too bad. The only reasonably good Soleil Royal model is the one from Heller. Even if it's made of plastic.
I most certainly agree! Although the Heller kit is pretty seriously flawed, Heller did a remarkable thing in making it possible to bring one of the most famous museum models, at a nice scale, into your home. The kit, like all kits, can be vastly improved upon through research and patient effort.

This was a great company that unfortunately closed. Sadly the name was purchased and the reputation is being used to make some quick profit. The differences are many. Low quality wood only. just plywood and poor quality basswood. Poor quality castings and most brass replaced with white metal. No instructions at all. The 1:1 plan pictures will be conveniently missing as well. This is across the line of products hiding under the umbrella of the purchased company name. It is sad. If you want a quality model your on the wrong place. They will take every little fraction of your money they can squeeze out. Don’t spend your next year of creative leisure regretting the money lost to these greedy scammers pirating the memory of a lost good company.

I built this ship in the 80s was awesome. Got destroyed in the 94 northridge quake.
It is an exact representation of the stern. Some models have only 5 windows, this one is correct with 6.

This was a great company that unfortunately closed. Sadly the name was purchased and the reputation is being used to make some quick profit. The differences are many. Low quality wood only. just plywood and poor quality basswood. Poor quality castings and most brass replaced with white metal. No instructions at all. The 1:1 plan pictures will be conveniently missing as well. This is across the line of products hiding under the umbrella of the purchased company name. It is sad. If you want a quality model your on the wrong place. They will take every little fraction of your money they can squeeze out. Don’t spend your next year of creative leisure regretting the money lost to these greedy scammers pirating the memory of a lost good company.
