He is such a beautiful bird, he really is. I'm so glad that your train your owls with love and patience, a lot of people yell and reel away which causes the owl to bite more, so they get even angrier. It's so nice to know there are genuinely patient people like yourself taking such wondrous care of such majestic animals. For that, and animal lovers everywhere, I say thank you.
A parrot bite is far more painful than anything I've worked with - Ravens or even crows have an uncomfortable bite, even if they get you with only the side of the beak. Here Blizzard is only giving "warning" bites (he never goes beyond that) , they really don't hurt (less than a raven bite) HOWEVER , if he really wanted to , he could cause some real pain-never as much as a Parrot tho...they crack open Brazil nuts (those ones you have to use a hammer on & end up destroying half the nut)
@MrRelhed I think this summer I'll make a trip to the Raptor center at the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus and check it all out. I love birds, especially owls. Strange I say that because I've never seen one in person before. I'm glad I bumped into this channel. Thanks.
@Mzlittlehell Blizzrd's doing great ! A lot has changed in the past weeks since these videos - has become very "cuddly" and waits for my arrival . Since he is not my only responibility and it gets dark now at 4:30 , it's been hard to get much video time in . I will have more soon Thanks !
@ScorieDivine Normally I would wear a glove if doing alot of hand work , it's just too hard to manipulate a camera with those big bulky things . For the most part , Blizzard is very gentile and because he is non releaseable and doesn't need his talons for hunting , we keep them trimmed . That being said , he can still puncture skin if he really wanted to . I have no loss of feeling in my arm but it does get a little tender at times
I was talking about your videos at work today. I told some co-workers I thought it was amazing that a wild creature, such as Blizzard, could become rather tame especially after his ordeal. One would think that in Blizzard's life, he'd never befriend a human. You think he's happy with his new life or just has this impression, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em?".
@omgthisiscrazy1 Wow,I'm flattered :) I think Blizzard is "content".I'm sure that he'd rather be out doing his own thing, but there are a lot less stresses in his life at the moment too. I just came back from Canada (Boundry Bay-near Vancouver B.C.) to see the Snowy Owls in "the wild".Fantastic weekend , lots of owls and eagles everywhere-I do wish Blizzard could be free'd.His only saving grace is that he was a first year juvenile when he was brought in,so he really doesn't know what he's missing
@MrRelhed i absolutely love this bird, what a magnificent creature, youve really got something special with Blizzard, im glad to see somebody else cares the same way i do, has blizzard ever broken skin with his talons before?
A group of owls is called a "Parliament" of owls, but a group of Snowy Owls is called a "Blizzard" of Snowy Owls. Appropriate, I must say. Did the gene tests for this bird come back yet?
Can you feel anything at all on your forearm ? I mean, getting scratched by harfangs every day must really ruin most of your sensitivity on this area, I guess ?
yeah so he should just not socialize the injured animal. he should just leave it in the cage and never interact with it. never get it used to human interaction since it will be surrounded by humans for the rest of it's life. lol the ignorance...
Haha, The owl I had was actually very emotional and loving. Granted he did want to eat my face at first.
Those eyes! What a lovely creature!

I would dare to say that owls are flying cats.
Around 2ft in length and 5 lbs - he's kinda like a giant plush toy
