It wasn't really his psychotic side. I believe it was more him trying to be more like Yuji and Gojo in the sense that they think themselves to be above their foe, whereas Megumi is usually thinking about best option to survive.

Gege Akutami explained that Domain Expansion is a technique based the self-understanding. Cursed spirits use it more easily due to their simplier nature than human.
A human using Domain Expansion is a big fking deal.

Megumi is such an amazing character and I can't wait to see more of his story animated. He is by far my favorite person in all of anime. Also his Chimera Shadow Garden was not only badass in its abilities, but the music choice for its debut was absolutely killer!!!!!!!!

I truly liked this moment. Cause it shows that He a higher level than Yuji. Yuji started way after megumi did because megumi started young when he first met gojo, so instead of Itadori training for a little while and being the strongest like some other anime’s/shows he levels alongside his class mates.

Dude we've been waiting for Megumi to use a more powerful technique all season. He kept getting stopped by everyone. First in episode 5 when he was going to use it against Sukuna but stopped because Yuji came back, in episode 9 he was about to use it against Todo but was stopped by the interference of Panda and Toge, THEN in episode 18 he was going to use it against Hanami and was stopped by Toge on the rooftop.
and that's still not that power, chimera garden was new - something he created in the moment so he doesn't have to use the secret treasure that would kill him
I cried at this scene which doesn't normally happen in fight scenes, but this, it made me feel like a proud father seeing my son grow up..
this soundtrack emphasize megumi's inner demon and his fear of death alongside with his will to live. Remember guys Megumi is the type of person who wont hesitate to kill either human or curse as long as he deemed it evil. After all he's Toji's son and Gojo's student.

This gave me all kinds of chills.
In my opinion the Reason he did a psycho laugh was that maby his ideology made him suppress the negative aspects of his personality like aggression and bloodlust, or something like that
he really doesn’t want to feel like a bad or greedy person do to his extreme view of justice and not wanting to be a hypocrite I think, he suppressed these emotions until Gojo’s words inspired him to be all like “frick it satanic mindset here I come” and he simply stoped feeling guilty for these bloodlusted feelings or emotions I guess,
perhaps there’s still a little guilt left for his emotions which stopped it from being a complete domain
To me, this will forever be the Yuji and Todo vs Hanami theme.
