Quality of Merrells is questionable generally I think. I bought my boy a pair of merrell boots. He has used them a fair amount, but mostly not tough conditions. They are falling apart within a year.
I usually use my Saucony Peregrine trail running shoes once they are beyond running but recently tried some Merrel Moab Speeds, they're nice but a 23 miles stint on the SWCP with full back pack and my feet felt like i was walking on cheese graters at mile 15 so im looking for something else to try. Will take a look at Columbia

I like the Columbia outdry stuff. I have their waterproof outdry jacket and it's awesome. These shoes look decent too. Happy hiking!

My favorite hiking shoe I ever had was a pair of Columbia Redmond mids. Light, fast, super comfortable.

Salomon are a narrow fit. Columbia have some great shirts.
