I watched a delightfully terrible movie called "Squealer" streaming on Peacock, you might have fun with that one. But be warned, it's really bad, the quality of acting and cinematography is about on par with those dramatic reenactments from the old crime shows like Unsolved Mysteries. You gotta buckle up for the schlock, it's heavy.

It came across as very snobby, Miriam does play pretend for a living, and it has made her very rich. I think people that use drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex and many other addictions is a far bigger problem in society compared to Potter heads.
You know what else is for children… playing dress up and make believe. Oh wait! She does that for a living. She also still obviously clings to her childhood love of eating dessert for meals
She makes a living supporting her family with the income she makes. It’s silly to conflate the production of something with the consumption. Adult men obsessing over fantasy movies, toys, shows, etc is pathetic and a sign that people aren’t growing up. Adulthood is NOT something that happens with age but with wisdom. Tons of children walking around now days at the age of 40. Sad stuff.
@@WhosThere26I think you can say the same for people who are so concerned with what other adults are doing. You can be an adult that takes care of your responsibilities and still have childish hobbies and interests.
@@WhosThere26 A real man drinks beer, watches the news every night, is miserable all the time and looks down on anyone that is enjoying things in life. You're a MANS MAN.
@@DavidZiggyJiggyBowie I'm kinda on your side here, buddy, I was saying all of that is fine as long as it doesn't prevent you from taking care of your adult stuff first.
@@WhosThere26 I see what you mean, but there's a difference between "obsessing" and just being a fan of something. I can agree if you put these things before family, friends, and responsibilities - yeah, then you're a loser. But what if you're still able to pay the bills, go to work, and still be a functioning member of society? Is it still wrong to enjoy these things?
Miriam Margolyes has become this opinionated buzzard that we are all supposed to listen to and cherish her irreproachable wisdom... She should be ignored.
Part of me feels guilt for enjoying the things I do (movies, anime, video games) but it's like, what am I "supposed" to be doing instead? My bills are paid, why should I feel bad for spending my time how I like?
Dude, don't feel guilty for liking movies, anime & video games. Your bills are paid & if you also make time for family & friends as well as basic things like good hygiene & chores, then you're perfectly entitled to wear a Spider-Man shirt while playing the Insomniac games. It balances you out. Don't let miserable, so-called adults who don't enjoy ANYTHING stop you from having fun.
You hit the nail on the head. Stuff like Harry Potter, Pixar etc, speak to the child in all of us. I work in a very adult world, and i enjoy it. I also love films like 12 Angry Men and To Kill a Mocking Bird. However, I've yet to have a cinema experience that has matched "Portals" in Avengers Endgame. Live your life, dont get obsessed about enjoying art, and don't get snobby about what other people like
As long as you're paying your bills & taxes, got a roof over your head & got a job that you do relatively correctly, then who cares what anyone watches/plays/dresses like in their spare time? It's only a problem if it overtakes your life's priorities & goes from being a hobby to a religion. Also, that Wizarding World at Universal Studios Hollywood was so cool (the ride was fun) & that butter beer was the bomb & I'm not even a Harry Potter fan.
Same here, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was quite fun and I liked the butter bear. The problem is when somebody’s hobbies become part of their personality.
Yeah I'm not that bothered by what's she's saying but also still it's like she's saying you shouldn't enjoy anything as an adult that you loved as a kid , for me that's turning 30 in a few months i feel closer to my inner child than i did when i was younger and i love the things i love now more than ever and it's like she's not aware that we adults know how to be mature responsible adults while also loving the things we do when we did as a child, the world is dark everyday as is so we all need some joy that these things provide.
I'm always a little apprehensive when I watch old stuff I liked as a kid for the first time in years though, sometimes it stands up and is still awesome, like Gremlins, and other times it's so awful I get retroactively embarrassed for ever having liked it, like The Pest.
@@theywouldnthavetocensormei9231 "sometimes it stands up and is still awesome, like Gremlins" Something that surprisingly has stood up for me here lately (although I didn't see all that much of it on ABC and CBS) is that William Shatner action cop procedural T.J. Hooker-- that Spelling-Goldberg/CPT production was, for the longest time, something that I thought was all sizzle, no steak (great opening and end theme music, but nothing in the episodes to hold my interest). Here lately, though, in seeing it from Shout!'s all-in-one DVD, the stories surprisingly have a lot going for them, and quite a few episodes have some remarkable chase scenes that go all over the L.A. area where the show is set, and also, I think that Shatner is much better here than he was as Capt. James T. Kirk of the Enterprise on NBC 60s Star Trek (not that original Trek was all that bad, though; I really enjoyed it, especially seeing it remastered on DVD).
To quote a Blink 182 song - "What the hell is wrong with me? My friends say I should act my age (What's my age again?) (What's my age again?) That's about the time that she broke up with me (Please stay with me) No one should take themselves so seriously (Please stay with me) With many years ahead to fall in line (Please stay with me) Why would you wish that on me? (Please stay) I never wanna act my age." I read the first 4 Harry Potter books in the 90's and 2000's and the movies honestly were a let down. My issue with "grow up" is exactly as you said and I would ask "please define 'growing up'?" because like everything else, it's "what's socially acceptable vs what isn't socially acceptable." Like nerd culture. Back in the 70's, 80's, 90's being a nerd meant you were bullied, picked on "oh the X-men is for nerds. D&D is for nerds." then in the 2000's, 2010's nerd culture became mainstream. Socially acceptable. It was basically the ending of the film Revenge of the nerds and Air heads. Where the nerd stands up and says "I'm a nerd and I'm pretty proud of it" and everyone admits "hey, I'm a nerd too." Because ya, every is a nerd in some area of life. Even sports. Only sports are more socially acceptable. As you sajd your self "how are you different." instead of wearing a X-men shirt, your wearing a shirt of your favorite sports team. Personally, life is too short, BORING, depressing, and INCREDIBLY STUPID. I find most of society to be far too selfish, egotistical, tribal, individualistic, willfully ignorant, and many other words. I watch a lot of political commentary and news and while I find it interesting, fascinating, entertaining...it also really angers me and depresses me. Then I'll watch a TV show, a movie, a cartoon, listen to music, read some true crime, nerd out on history, exercise and life is less depressing and rage inducing. So it isn't just "fantasy" and entertainment, but education and exercise as well. I know a lot of people like to garden for that, so you gonna complain about those who garden too? Now I'll be honest....I use to feel embarrassed for liking The power rangers, and that was when I was a CHILD back in the 90's. As a teenager I was embarrassed I liked it as a kid. Wasn't till I was like was 17, 23, 24 that I was like "why am I embarrassed?" and in fact the older I get the more I am to a point of "NOBODY HAS TIME FOR THAT BS." and you know what? When the reboot movie came out, I went to see it and while I didn't love it, it wasn't too bad. As a kid, a very young kid. When I was like 6 years old and through out my child hood I was a big fan of Zorro. I watched the TV series and I even went to see The mask of Zorro in the theaters when it came out. I just watched 2 months go and damn, I loved it all over again and it reminded me why I loved Zorro to begin with. I still watch The facts of life, Quantum leap, Family ties, The X files, I love Lucy, etc from my childhood...but then I also watch TV shows that aren't from my childhood. Like Eight is enough, Punky Brewster, The flying nun, etc. Also, the "roaring 20's" ....speakeasies, Jazz, lots of world traveling, trends like word puzzles, mahjong, and even flagpole sitting, cinema, flappers...what was that all a reaction to? WW1 and the spanish flu. The overall cultural zeitgeist of the decade was "You can go off to war and die, you can die from a pandemic. Such a waste of life." people reevaluated their life and said ""life is too short." so they traveled the world; went to France, went to Germany, went to China, etc. Danced to Jazz music and party hardy while drinking booze and laughing at prohibition. So are these people gonna say traveling is a waste of time? Trying new cultures is a waste of time? Eating their food, trying their clothes, etc is a waste of time and not adult? The 70's, Disco. Ya know, "Ya, we're in a bad economy. Oil crisis. Crime is sky high; but let's go to the Disco club." Punk, literally the same thing but more political in terms of the lyrics, overall vibe, and news letters. And ya, I've tried all kinds of foreign food just to see what it's like and to experience something new. I actively encouraged my mom to do that as well. I'd encourage her all the time to go and do stuff, "try this". Enjoy life. My mom and I use to go to this Thai store and try all kinds of great Thai food. I really miss those fried Smelts. So good!!!! My mom however refused to try the blood soup, lol. It was nothing special. It was too mild for my tastes, lol. Got it twice though. My mom without me would also go to China town and eat there. And personally. I don't like the notion that "it's all just entertainment". Like true crime and history; oh that's not "entertainment" Yes it is. I ENJOY educating my self. I find that highly entertaining. I see my self as an amateur sociologist and I really enjoy it. I find it highly entertaining. Same with the news and politics. I find it to be highly entertaining despite all the depressing aspect of it. Movies, video games, etc - that's art and just like any other art form it can enlighten, it can make people go "Yeah, they're right." and it can turn people into creators. To quote John Carpenter about EC comics aka Tales from the crypt and all those other titles "They turned me into a film director." Same with history, same with almost anything.
I think it's up to the person to decide where they take enjoyment from. I personally love reading early teen-teen sci-fi/fantasy books and I'm past 30 years old, I don't care if I'm not the target audience. I love that stuff. As long as you're not sexualizing whatever media you enjoyed in front of kids who are the target audience, because they shouldn't be in contact with rule 34 before they're 17-18 years old as far as I'm concerned, you're good. But I don't think anyone can be the arbiter of truth when it comes to enjoying something an age. Same thing in reverse, if a kid wants to enjoy playing chess or even crossword puzzles, let em. It's not that goddamn deep.
Makes me think when I was called out for cosplaying a character on my Facebook and going to anime and comic conventions. Everyone who wears costumes put a lot of work into them and they are appreciated with people wanting to take their pictures. Love what you want you aren’t hurting anyone. ❤
Couldn't agree more!!!! I love sharing stuff with my kids. I was stoked when I realised you can get almost anything online, we watched the clangers and bagpuss and Dogtanian and the three Muskehounds and so many things! And when they got older we watched the Matrix and Xena Warrior Princess and I found that sharing things with them was like seeing it for the first time. Now that they're grown up, they find things to show me like Avatar tla, and amazing anime, we've been blown away by ju-jutsu kaisan. If there's anything you wish you could see again for the first time, find someone who hasn't seen it yet and watch it with them💖🌱💖
I'm not a huge fan of harry potter myself. And yeh the books are written for teenagers But... So was Alice in Wonderland. Just because it's now old and classic doesn't change the fact that it was written for children. All that changes is the view that therefore it's acceptable for adults to enjoy because it's a classic piece of work.
@@avidfather1864 there aren't 40plus year old English Literature scholars who spent their entire adult life and career analysing Alice in Wonderland? @@avidfather1864 yes. Spending your adult life and career on a children's book is more obsessive than taking a 5minute online quiz on a children's book :)
Whenever someone goes out and says "grow up"...theres a solid chance they are into something very "childish" themselves. I am one if those people that have soured on the things I use to love because the movies/shows even comic books are no longer to my taste...but I dont get caught up in it. I find tbings I do like, watch them and enjoy them, and try not to get caught up in "fandom". I actually think it doesnt have to necessarily escapism. After losing my mother and mother in law, it was nice to watch something that reminds me of them and makes me smile, so it doesnt even have to be taken out of reality, I can use it to contextualize real life and important things. One if your better videos, over the years I think you may not like me very much (when I comment), even though Ive been a watcher for years now. I really enjoyed this, thank you.
Incredibly well said, Adam! Was hoping to see someone talk about her comments and I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. Everything in life needs balance and it’s so important to enjoy the things that give us happiness and escape from our everyday lives. That’s the purpose of movies, books and art. It’s shocking as an actress that she doesn’t realize this, but whatever!
I think while we are supposed to and/or expected to get married, have a career and have kids, I think people forget that we are also allowed to have aspects of our lives that we can cherish and have fun with. I do think there are some people who take it too far at times, that shouldn't ruin anything for people. The world wpuld be a much more depressing place if we weren't allowed to cherish or like something we did as children once we become 18. It's no one's place to say "this person is too old to enjoy this or enjoy that." I grew up watching wrestling, Marvel and Star Wars and I'd be depressed if once I turned 18 someone told me that I'm not allowed to watch new or old Star Wars and Marvel movies or I wasn't allowed to watch and enjoy a WWE show anymore. My point is, while there are some people that take it too far. It is no one's business to say you're not allowed to watch or enjoy anything from your childhood or even enjoy newer media for kids like the new Mario movie.
I think there is truth in her opinion but it isn't necessarily true: I think being into these franchises is totally fine as long as you are living as a responsible adult also. The sports analogy is good. Some people say you are a loser for being invested in a sports team because you are profiting off their success and saying "we" while referring to a sports team is embarrassing. I know several people (and there are millions more) who are die hard sports fans and are in committed relationships, successful, and completely capable of taking on adult responsibilities. Where I see truth in her comments is that Harry Potter is for kids and is a bit childish. If you aren't living as a responsible adult and are incredible invested in Harry Potter it comes off as arrested development. And I will say it would do some Franchise fans good to broaden their horizons and develop a bigger media diet than just major franchises, but that is a whole other conversation.
I'm an adult and I still enjoy the things from my childhood and enjoy other Fandom. Part of it is that brings my life joy and make my day easier to watch or read harry beat voldermort or watching aang beat the fire nation. Life woukd be boring if all we did was be serious
Harry Potter fans I can kind of sympathise with when it comes to how focused they are on it. For many it was the first thing to hit that was "Theirs", many other things at the time were things lingering around from previous Generations, like Super heroes, Star Wars, things like that. Harry Potter for some was the first thing that came out in their life time that wasn't their parents or older sibling's first, it wasn't a hand-me-down. The ones that never blossom beyond that are maybe what she refers to? I remember in high school I was in a Sci-fi Club where the president was so obsessed with Star Wars that nothing else got a look in (She was a girl, so yeah, they've always been part of Star Wars Fandom). I admired her passion for it, hell I love classic Star Wars, but the club was for all Sci-fi and she was keeping everything else out. I don't know what her upbringing was like, maybe she just never got exposed to anything else? But she ruined her own club because she decided nothing but Star Wars was valid Sci-fi, so everyone left eventually. Me? I guess I was lucky, I grew up with lots of varied sci-fi and fantasy, I was never laser focused on one thing. I'm always looking for more and in my 45 years I've branched out to many things from all over the world. I have a Toy Collection, but most of what I own are things I couldn't get when I was a kid, they just weren't available to me, or I didn't know where to find them if they were. I also have a lot of books. Books I would have had since childhood if most of them hadn't gone up in a fire (seriously, my dad had a sh*t ton of Sci-fi and Fantasy books). My Film and TV collection is quite varied, There are genres I'm not fond of, but even then there are some examples that I found that work for me. I have a lot of Comic books in Omnibus and trade paperback form, which I'm currently focused on reading at the moment. Maybe I know too much about all these things, more than I know about actually useful subjects, maybe that's what she means? I'm Obsessive by nature, unfortunately, never learned how to deal with that.
Reminds me when Melvin Peebles join Wall Street as a bet (I believe?) and although he seemed out of place, coincidentally he managed to figure out how the stock market works. All because he worked as an avant garde filmmaker.
Im curious why these movies haven't been rereleased in theaters to relive them. Unfortunately when these movies were first released they did not interest me, but now I love them !!
In the interview, Miriam talks about blackadder fans vs Harry Potter fans, and maybe it's because I was in my 20s when the first Harry Potter movie came out, but I actually agree with her. Blackadder is for adults and Harry Potter is for children. When the film came out, it was billed as a children's film, based on children's books. Later you heard people say it's not just for kids, so i gave it a chance and tried to watch the movie and my reaction was - okay it's a children's film. So i dont really understand that adults like it. But of course people are free to like what they want.
I tend to agree with her. If one has kids, the parent gets to enjoy watching the kids grow and appreciate their own things. That's how we should be appreciating things as we age. Even classics and stock markets fall into this idea. One day, the kids watch barney. Years later, we see them reading the three musketeers, and then we watch them grow and build a career. It doesn't mean we stop enjoying what we like. It means we're fostering young people to enjoy things as we did while letting them take the reigns as time moves on. Those with arrested development could really be missing out on this because they won't let go and grow with a family. Adam, I usually find Harry Potter collection stuff to be a little childish... unless the person has kids. My cut-off age for this is 26.
I’m turning 25 on the 29th and I still enjoy Disney , Harry Potter , hunger games , etc . People should be able to enjoy art no matter what age you are ! Great rant !!!!
Never understood this mentality. As far as I'm concerned, enjoy your sports, movies, video games, drawing, art, reading, fishing, camping, what have you. Just make sure you're taking care of your responsibilities. But like anything in life, it's about moderation. I've been told by friends and piers "What, you're still playing video games? Shouldn't you have stopped playing them at 12?" And to that I say "But you spend hours a day watching Netflix or playing Candy Crush... how is what I do any different?" lol Your hobbies aren't the issue. It's what you do with said hobby that can make you irresponsible. I don't see a problem with enjoying something like HP as an adult. Plenty of adults still love watching Disney animated films even if they are primarily aimed for children.
I also didn't read the books until I started watching the movies and was an adult already. I got started reading them after the third movie came out because that's when it got even more dark, and I was totally captivated to read them all as quick as possible even though my normal reads are Horror . I read ever Anne Rice and Stephen King book in highschool I could lol
I totally agree, her character is well liked in the books so its probably because even today she still gets called out in the streets. That has to be the reason and people should probably leave her alone from now on😂😂😅😅
I believe that it would be important to understand the context of what she said, and why she said it. Was she asked a specific question about the films, or the for lack of better term ‘fandom’, or something else? It is important to understand the context of the answer to a question rather than playing an eight second clip and then going on a 10 minute rant.
I listened to the interview. There was no context. She actually doubled-down in a follow-up interview. You are free to look into it but I'm not misrepresenting her opinion on the subject.
I admit to not understanding an adults desire to buy toys and such for themselves.. I also admit to not caring what another adult purchases to bring themselves joy.
Summer Camp Island is one of my favorite tv shows cause I love the art of animation and silly things. If anyone cares that I watch cartoons they're sillier than I am. And I'm pretty f*cking silly.
I'm an adult. One of my favorite films is Repulsion. A masterpiece. I also enjoyed watching Rim of the World during the pandemic. It was fun. Sometimes we grown-ups want cookies for dinner.
My favorite is philosopher's stone. Light hearted with a great sense of wonder and discovery. I love that movie. Later films became dark and serious. Snyder peaked at watchmen imo. My fav superhero movie.
She's sort of right and kind of wrong at the same time, I feel like? There's a lot wrapped up in arguments like this. I think, ultimately, the best kids' media appeals to both kids and adults, and Harry Potter absolutely does that. And it's compounded by the fact that many adults *were* kids when they first experienced the series, whether it was the books or the films. So there's a lot of love and nostalgia for it. And as a fan myself, I cannot wait to share it with my kids when they're old enough! Are there plenty of adults who are borderline obsessed with Harry Potter? Sure, but look at any other fandom, and you'll find the same thing. I get her point, yet also, people should be free to enjoy the things they enjoy.
I agree, although you've used two idiots as an example of millions of sports fans who definitely don't do that and never would. Some of us like to watch the games at home and mind our business haha. And it's true, you're probably not gonna see Harry Potter fans scrap in the street, but some can be toxic in other ways.
Are you not doing trailer reactions anymore? So many have gone by in the past few months that I feel like you didn't mention. Some I figured you would, like the Roadhouse remake, The Crow remake. Now Rebel Moon part 2. I feel like they perform well when you do them but I also feel like I haven't seen them in a while, so I wasn't sure if you mentioned them not being a part of your 2024 channel plans.
They don’t do that great and honestly I really don’t enjoy having to rush to get them done. It’s very much a first to market product that really brings me no joy in doing. I’m sure I’ll do some on occasion but it’s definitely not my focus this year.
@@AdamDoesMovies Oh, I forgot to mention, I asked because even if you don't post reactions, I still like to post comments reminding you of new ones just to watch for yourself in case you didn't know something was out. Not me asking you to react to it. I was going to mention Romulus but you did react to that one lol Today, I'm mentioning Beetlejuice 2. It's just a teaser though.
I'd be hardpressed to conclude that society has a problem of too many adults acting too maturely and too responsibly. In fact, society is collapsing because too many adults are acting like children, the hallmarks of which being their impulsivity and constant desire to satiate childish needs. And so people can start to focus too much on infantile pleasures rather than "adulting." Watching a show or a movie here or there which is aimed at younger audiences isn't akin to the fall of Rome, but society would be better off if more adults were inclined to wrestle with the difficult concepts in, say, Anna Karenina by Tolstoy, rather than arguing on forums about whether Thanos really could defeat the Hulk. Sure, arguing for pleasure and what makes you feel good is obviously easy to do, just as eating like crap and ignoring the pending consequences is pleasurable and easy to do. But this is a question of what one "ought" to do or "ought" to want, and an excellent case can be made that an adult should ought to want to read Shakespeare rather than Archie comics.
So people rambling on about Tolstoy, Shakespeare and Goethe is automatically better than a Marvel convo and a step to a "better (utopian nonsense) world"? People who have committed mass massacres have read those great authors. But yeah its the people that like dumb movies (I have never seen an MCU film myself) and their failure at "adulting" whatever that means, that is causing societies collapse (the end has been nigh for thousands of years, we do eternally exist in Kali Yuga it seems). I'm obviously not saying boring Tolstoy (I'm biased, being opposed in so many ways to him, especially his views on art) is to blame, but the people in this world with power have been and are taught the Western canon and beyond in their training schools, and yet it's never really benefitted society (other than further art). Your gripe seems more to be democracy, how average most people are and modern technology, than what people choose to read and talk about. Your Elizabethan Londoner man got to see Hamlet directed by the bard himself, and afterwards he went to the pub, got drunk, banged a whore then passed on an std to the wife. Perfect adulting from a better time when society was secure.
I totally agree with you. If you can not tell by my icon, I'm a huge Transformers fan. I've been a fan virtually from the start, in the mid 80s. But, I am not a militant fan, Bay has ruined the franchise, his movies are nothing but a cash grab. His movies no longer have the heart, soul and spark on the classic characters, which is a pity. The only movie that I feel is a true Transformers movie is Bumblebee, which was directed by Travis Knight. But, I am not just a Transformers fan, I also like Ghostbusters, the Harry Potter movies, a lot of sci-fi fantasy and horror movies and franchises, like The Exorcist, the Conjuring franchise, a lot of Jim Henson movies and series, Muppets, Storyteller, Labyrinth... things like these, both for the younger audience, and the more mature. Stranger Things, Lost Boys, the new singer Courtney Hadwin. In fact, I am going to go to the new Ghostbusters movie, Frozen Empire when it comes to my local theatre. I have never liked Miriam Margolyes, I find her so called humour too vulgar, crass and crude for my liking. If she found it too juvenile, then why did she have a role in it, was it nothing more to her than a paycheck? If so, than she should not take these parts which are "beneath her", so to speak.
In a sense I think you are adult-ing with your channel as there is more media on it that is poignant and nuanced and thoughtful. I mean this in a very positive way mind you. Very good video.
Miriam is a representation of a modern society with an agenda resembling an authority controlling how people should live their lives. With total disregard for country economy, and disregard of respect for people's hobbies. Sounds familiar regarding her agenda?
people should do whatever they want that makes them happy, you can do things you loved as a kid in adulthood if it makes makes the life less miserable, we have only one life so, as we get older we lose that child like wonder gets lost and we become , serious and that child in us dies which is sad, so I definitely disagree with her + the series is not all just for kids, it grows with the audience, the last two films are no way shape or form kids movies
Well, said! I'm an adult in a vocation which includes serious life issues. The Harry Potter books are my happy place and escape from the dark side of life. Miriam Margolyes is an actress. She got paid to play a role. She doesn't get it or care.
Lol, that lady obviously has a low self-esteem. Insecure people are always trying to act mature, and often times are emotionally immature I agree with you 100%, love my ability to have fun at my age
I can for one say, I dont give a flying f#$ck about Harry Potter, I have no idea what the hype is behined the franchise. As self identified nerd, it never hit- not the books, not the movies, and not the games. Why do people get so worked up about this crap, its a kids book- and while I like some kids movies and books, people take HP so seriously, more then Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. Its so weird to me.
Is Professor Sprout even relevant? I don't remember her being in any more than that one scene and i honestly remember her more from James and the Giant Peach as one of the two evil aunts than Harry Potter.
My favorite quote is by C.S Lewis: “When I became a man, I put away childish things. Including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up” I don’t live life by anyone else’s design outside of my own. We’re all going to die at some point so I’m going to make the most of the life I have here and enjoy it collecting my action figures, reading comic books, and playing Nintendo games. Going to a con is still on the list
I was never huge on Harry Potter but if anyone ever told me to grow out of lotr I’d be very offended and confused frankly. They’re brilliant and timeless movies. And I imagine Harry Potter fans feel the same.
LOTR is aimed at more of an older audience than HP though, like 12+. It's just too scary and violent for younger kids. The HP books and movies, especially the early ones, are already aimed at like 7 year olds. Just the fact that it all takes place in a school environment makes it more appealing to kids than to adults.
It's only tangentially related, but there are clearly adults who are too wrapped up in fictions of all kinds. If a new Harry Potter or Star Wars movie trailer release has you breaking down in tears of joy, you are too invested. It's one thing when kids take these things too seriously, but seeing adults fly into an actual rage over who was the most powerful Jedi is disturbing.
You can say that about anything. There are people who are obsessed with guns. There are people who are obsessed with food, animals, sex, alcohol and people who larp historical wars. All to unhealthy levels. As one human being to another, sometimes it’s best to mind our own FUCKING business. Not everything needs to be analyzed or commented on. And who are we to tell someone that they are too invested in a book, movie or whatever. We all have our vices. As long as we’re functioning adults and not harming anyone, live and let live.
@@thorcolossus First off, this is the comments section about a topic expressed by this channel. Telling someone that they don't have a right to comment or shouldn't comment on the subject is asinine, as the point of the comments section is to engage the topic. Second, apparently the irony of telling someone to live and let live as you try to silence their opinions is completely lost on you. Third, the fact that vices are common and enjoyable is no defense against the criticism that moderation is a virtue.
@@zoomingby you missed my point. I said we, not you, not him, but we. I’m not trying to shame or silence anyone. I’m simply pointing out the hypocrisy of criticizing someone for enjoying something that you personally don’t feel that same passion. “Who are we to tell someone that they are too invested…” I meant who appointed us the moral/social high ground to ridicule someone for becoming too invested into a work of fiction. It’s like that video of that guy who was playing a dragon ball z game and was shouting out the moves like goku. He was alone, in shape, enjoying a video game in his own apartment and enjoying a video game with child-like joy. Then a league of people (alot of women included) started to insult the man in mass. They called him loser, man-child, virgin and everything under the sun. They said a grown man shouldn’t enjoy anything, let alone a video game, that much. And I say it again, who are “we” to condemn someone for enjoying a work of fiction too much. As long as we’re healthy functioning adults, what’s the issue.
I wish you talked about target audiences and stuff because what I gather from her is that adults shouldn’t like stuff aimed at kids even though a lot of stuff aimed at kids has good themes, and by her logic only boys can wear blue and only girls can wear pink
I never got on the Harry Potter train, but there’s no shame to the game, if….you play fair, if you live and let live, or in some cases, live and let die. I don’t enjoy a lot of what I see now, but I won’t begrudge anyone their enjoyment of it. That’s being a bad sport. No one goes to a hockey game to tell the people there how much better baseball is; that’s no good. So….like what you like, don’t like what you don’t like. And don’t apologize to anyone for your taste.
Saying they should be over that is crazy. Yeah some insane person is so hyped to do taxes and figure out their bank statements then re-watching Harry Potter movies.
I really I don’t see her issue, who cares if adults enjoy things she thinks are for children. The world isn’t sunshine and rainbows for everyone 24/7 so sometimes it nice to have things that can make us happy during bad times even if at whatever age you aren’t considered the target audience. I also find it funny that someone who is a professional actor said something like this considering her whole career is basically playing make believe.
Adam, I couldn’t disagree more. We have a society that is refusing to grow up. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying something made for children, but we both know there’s a HUGE portion of the population that should be able to recognize that superheroes (ffs the fact that I have to say this…), fantasy characters and what have you are things that should be at the bottom of the things that should concern someone that isn’t a child. We have SO many issues in our society and in our personal lives and we’re over here bickering about which actor should portray Iron Man or whether Harry Potter should have shipped x girl over y. Grow the hell up, people. There’s a society to run, children to feed and educate, and families to help. I’m glad you get to enjoy making an income out of discussing these things, Adam, but let’s be real, if things became hard enough for you financially your wife would tear you a new one if you went around thinking and discussing superheroes and fantasy characters all day.
If everyone took care of their own family, then society would be taken care of. The real childish people are the ones who look to outsource "caring" to some greater entity instead of just caring after their own life and the people close to them. Clean your room before you tell others what to do.
@@theywouldnthavetocensormei9231 I agree 100%. We have a society that has outsourced parenting. We have a parenting crisis, in fact. Children are being raised by the public educational system, the government, and the internet. In the meantime the parents are being distracted by the internet, fandoms, and their narcissism (which includes obsessions with fantasy, cartoons, superheroes, etc.)
@@WhosThere26 I guess so, I just think you're overstating how big of a problem adults and fandoms are, it's really not a big deal compared to bigger things. I'm sure there are some people who take an interest in Harry Potter or Star Wars or whatever else way too far, but that number of people is pretty miniscule compared to the people who are just generally neglectful. And public school is a big problem too, but it's not the concept of it, having base level education available for people of all income brackets is definitely a sensible thing to do, it can equalize a lot of disparities if we can provide that for all people. It's just the way it's being executed that's a problem.
@@theywouldnthavetocensormei9231 I think you'd find that if we both wrote a thesis on the matter with all of the nuance to cover the minutiae necessary to accurately depict the reality of these things we're discussing, we'd likely find ourselves agreeing on most if not all of what we're seemingly disagreeing on. Out of necessity I'm painting with broad strokes here. I'm particularly emphasizing the more extreme sides of these things we're discussing. There's nothing wrong with most things in moderation.
Bill Maher pulled this nonsense after Stan Lee died. Sorry some people have no joy or imagination in life as they get old. Me? I'm a middle aged man with a basement full of Star Wars toys. Sue me
I know people who know nothing about the real world but are obsessive over the most minute details of Star Wars lore. We've created a generation of infantile morons.

I don’t look down on anyone for what they like. I looked down on the creators that have warmed their way into the studios and are trying to brainwash children with their increasingly aggressive progressive ideology. And then get mad when adults notice and revolt against it.
She just doesn’t like JK. The amazing Joan is really hated so the only way her haters can deal with her success is to pretend that this amazing franchise is less than what it is!
I do believe people go overboard. When you are shouting a movie ruined your childhood, you do need to get a life. But on the other hand, a lot of the "hollywood" crowd saying stuff like this is basically just being mad that their movies got bad reviews and bombed. A movie maybe "being mainly for kids" is not a get out of jail free card for it being bad. Especially the big budget movies. If you want to make a billion dollars, they are not "just for kids" and have to appeal to adults. If the movie is some G rated thing, then yeah, maybe you can say it is for kids. But you make those terrible star wars sequels or the terrible Dumbledore movies? You cannot whine they are for kids. They are not. They wanted a mass audience and that audience rejected them as bad. It is just sour grapes.

Sad stuff.

Something that surprisingly has stood up for me here lately (although I didn't see all that much of it on ABC and CBS) is that William Shatner action cop procedural T.J.

Speaking of fart jokes, the Captain Underpants movies wasn't that bad actually!
To quote a Blink 182 song -
"What the hell is wrong with me?
My friends say I should act my age
(What's my age again?)
(What's my age again?)
That's about the time that she broke up with me
(Please stay with me)
No one should take themselves so seriously
(Please stay with me)
With many years ahead to fall in line
(Please stay with me)
Why would you wish that on me?
(Please stay) I never wanna act my age."
I read the first 4 Harry Potter books in the 90's and 2000's and the movies honestly were a let down.
My issue with "grow up" is exactly as you said and I would ask "please define 'growing up'?" because like everything else, it's "what's socially acceptable
vs what isn't socially acceptable." Like nerd culture.
Speaking of Dickens, I can see that lady being visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve in the not so distant future.
And yeh the books are written for teenagers
But... So was Alice in Wonderland. Just because it's now old and classic doesn't change the fact that it was written for children. All that changes is the view that therefore it's acceptable for adults to enjoy because it's a classic piece of work.
Yeah, but people don't obsess over Alice in Wonderland the way some people, some of whom are in their 40s by now, obsess over Harry Potter.

It's no one's place to say "this person is too old to enjoy this or enjoy that."
I grew up watching wrestling, Marvel and Star Wars and I'd be depressed if once I turned 18 someone told me that I'm not allowed to watch new or old Star Wars and Marvel movies or I wasn't allowed to watch and enjoy a WWE show anymore.
My point is, while there are some people that take it too far. It is no one's business to say you're not allowed to watch or enjoy anything from your childhood or even enjoy newer media for kids like the new Mario movie.
I don't think anyone needs to grow up for enjoying whatever it may be unless it starts to affect day to day life.
Not a child... "Bluey" fuckin rules.
I think there is truth in her opinion but it isn't necessarily true:
I think being into these franchises is totally fine as long as you are living as a responsible adult also.
This rant is perfect, Adam: I happen to still be a little kid at heart. Just take one look at my room, and you'll see what I mean. 😎🤙🏻

You mean to say that you're INTERESTING.
Shouldn't you have stopped playing them at 12?"
And to that I say "But you spend hours a day watching Netflix or playing Candy Crush... how is what I do any different?" lol
Your hobbies aren't the issue.
Also got my interest reingnighted in the Potter universe last year playing Hogwarts legacy , lol definitely still into it.
@@AdamDoesMoviesfair enough - appreciate the response.
I'll take the Potter fan over the two drunk guys that will fight at an NFL game just because they like different teams.
Ahh okay that makes sense!
She said Schwarzenegger farted in her face when they were filming End of Days.. good
people should do whatever they want that makes them happy, you can do things you loved as a kid in adulthood if it makes makes the life less miserable, we have only one life so, as we get older we lose that child like wonder gets lost and we become , serious and that child in us dies which is sad, so I definitely disagree with her + the series is not all just for kids, it grows with the audience, the last two films are no way shape or form kids movies
Remember my offer to donate $20 to the Lindsey stay at home fund if she knocks on the door or shouts at you while you're doing a live stream.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Well, I guess I'll throw my books away and act my age.
💯 👍👍 Tx Adam! Couldn’t agree more! Now, where did I put my lightsaber….☺️👍
At what age we can't have fun anymore?I'm 40 so please somebody tell me what i can like or dislike???
I am 33 and I really enjoy Pixar movies to relax and have a good laugh.
There's nothing wrong with being a kid at heart.
Is Professor Sprout even relevant? I don't remember her being in any more than that one scene and i honestly remember her more from James and the Giant Peach as one of the two evil aunts than Harry Potter.
My favorite quote is by C.S Lewis:
“When I became a man, I put away childish things. Including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up”
I don’t live life by anyone else’s design outside of my own. We’re all going to die at some point so I’m going to make the most of the life I have here and enjoy it collecting my action figures, reading comic books, and playing Nintendo games. Going to a con is still on the list
always with the best puns and analogies 😂
I don't think they shouldn't have been Harry Potter fans in the first place! TAKE THAT MIRIAM MAGARGOYLE!
Really enjoyed this Adam. Thank you
I love harry Potter I agree Adam love fan of lot stuff

Totally agree.. Awesome video Adam
I still watch Animé and play video games….does it make me immature?
"enjoy eating fiber and watching The Mentalist!" - Troy Barnes
Adam dropping truth bombs
Saying they should be over that is crazy. Yeah some insane person is so hyped to do taxes and figure out their bank statements then re-watching Harry Potter movies.
Nothing more hilarious than Hollywood telling people what they should and shouldn't think as if they are above everyone else.
This is pretty normal for Hollywood to do.
I think she was being tongue in cheek, which I admit is very British. She’s enjoying winding people up, and it works.
Harry potter has been shit for 20 years. I agree with her somewhat.
You're lecturing people but what are you doing for hungry children and the issues in society?

Adults watch these movies because you know it’s actually a good series of movies and it hasn’t been touched with the MESSAGE and thank god for that.
Yes!
I know people who know nothing about the real world but are obsessive over the most minute details of Star Wars lore. We've created a generation of infantile morons.
Right. That's not who this video is about. You can actually be knowledgable about Star Wars and know what's going on in the world.
There are definitely more obsessive nerds in the world these days with social media etc. It's about having some balance and not taking the nerd shit too seriously.

I'll grow up after she gets down to a healthy weight.
I don't care what she says. I was never into Harry Potter anyway.
