    Great idea to use your brass palette for “special” paints!! I’ve been trying to decide what to put in mine and I may do something similar 😊. Interesting to see some handmade brands I haven’t used before.

    Hey Tabitha…….great video! I got the brass palette a year ago and I am AFRAID to use it!!!!!! I like what you did with special paints. May i ask where you got the split little paint pans? An assortment of various sizes is nice!

    Nice video. Just curious-why did you pull the gamboge yet leave the manganese paints? Thanks.

    • @RaspberryColors
      @RaspberryColors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gamboge is more toxic and tends to be gooier than others, kinda moves (more than a MGraham paint). So that’s why I pulled it. Thank you Grognardass.

    I recently won the Frazer Price brass palette as a prize in a contest. Lucky meeee!! I noticed you took out the plastic tray that holds the pans. Could you tell me how you got your pans to stay in place? Did you line the bottom with magnetic tape or... ? I would like to do the same with mine. Thank you so much!

      Oh that is awesome! I used sticky tack by gorilla glue (lots of other brands). It is removable/reposition-able sticky tack, keeps a good hold and leaves no residue when removed. They come in strips, I stretched it, to make thinner and not as bulky, holds great.

    Love Prodigal Sons watercolors! Question.I was worried about getting PR106 because of mercury and returned an unopened full pan of Rublev watercolors "Vermilion" PR106 back to the store because I'm felt i wasn't so controlled when i paint and splash at times and get paint on my hands? Is the watercolor form something not to worry much about?

    • @RaspberryColors
      @RaspberryColors  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I looked up as much as I could, it seemed to me that only the gamboge was scary, so I did pull that pan and put new gamboge for a working palette without as much fear. Lots of manufacturers still use PR106 in oil paint. It is toxic so disposal and use is with caution. I think these pigments are wonderful to see, use on occasion and compare to modern hue colors but they won’t be in my everyday studio palette.

      Just so you know, mercury sulfide PR106 might be more of a concern in watercolors, but as long as you're careful you should be fine.
      As for NY24 Gamboge, you would have to literally eat about 7 half pans to get any bad effects, it's harmless, but fugitive.

    I bought "VIVIANITE" FROM PRODIGAL SONS, A FULL PAN, AND IT WAS ALL GRITTY, LIKE SAND IN IT, OR pigment particles like GIGANTIC and not ground enough. I was wondering if your half pan had the same issue, by any chance...I wish I had returned mine, as I hate using it...and it is not dark like yours....thanks Janis

    • @RaspberryColors
      @RaspberryColors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Odd mine was spectacular deep and smooth. I think you got a bad one.

    • @elvenham1
      @elvenham1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do know he has different types of Vivianite, so maybe you got one of the rougher grades. That grittiness is actually pretty common with handmade paints or just certain pigments in general. Handmade paint is not able to be ground nearly as fine as commercial brands, though that's not always the case (Roman Szmal's Glauconite comes to mind). Prodigal Sons has some amazing paints, but it is good to know if it is one of the more sedimentary pigments (like Smalt). PoemsAboutYou also has some sedimentary pigments along with perfectly smooth ones, too. It's a matter of if you want a rare or "effects" paint or not if those grittier ones are for you. (I've got two large palettes full of her paints, and I love most of them.)
      I had bought a small palette of Jazper Stardust pigments once, and they are truly subpar. No pigments listed anywhere, terrible binder ratios (so colors just rub right off), and obvious white filler inclusions in most of the colors. Not recommended.

    Very nice video, but the quality uploaded was only 360p, so we can't even read which color was which etc. Please make sure you record at 1080p or 4k at 30p, and when you edit you set your editor's project properties at 1080p and 30p fps, and then you also export at these rates too. At that res/fps, I'd use 30 mbps bitrate, but make sure you check with your editor's exporting panel if it's dealing with mpbs or kbps so you'd need the appropriate number adjustment. If at any point of the process you're switched to 360p or other resolutions/fps, you will get a quality hit like with this video.
