I saw a yearling moose from about 25 yards on my driveway in central Alberta. Living on a farm that bordered on a national park moose were quite common. In southern Alberta I had moose tracks through my back yard but I didn't see the actual moose. Don't mess with moose unless you have a death wish! Just don't!
I knew a lady who was headed out on a 2 week vacation. On her first night out a semitrailer was flashing it's headlights but she didn't know why. Cresting the next hill as her headlights came down on the highway she spotted a huge moose dead on the road. Turned out the semi hit and killed the moose that then dropped dead in her lane. The lady was driving a Toyota Tercel which 'died' when it hit the dead moose. The car was a complete write off. Aside from some seatbelt rash the lady and her son were not injured. Some of those BC mountain moose get pretty darn big.
I have observed Moose Both in Alaska & New England.
