They do that kiteboarding at the sea where I live in East Sussex England UK. I love watching them whizz so fast across the surface of the sea from out far to all the way back in to shore and then they turn around and whizz all the way back out again. It's fab to watch must be thrilling to do. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I must say you're a pretty fast learner !! I'm a kitesurf instructor and it's not that easy to get people up and going on the first lesson !! Keep it up, you're at a very good point !!

This was a sweet video, I just got back from a trip in Laventana Mexico where I took lessons to Kite Board. So amazing, such an amazing experience, but ya, this is an expensive sport for sure ✌️
Welcome to the incredible sport that is kiteboarding! If that was your first day I'm impressed you got up on the board ! Well done.!. You have the right idea to go back to the school for another couple of hours to become more comfortable. After that there's only one way to get better and that is to put in the hours. Make it easy on yourself and keep an eye on the tides at Langebaan - on the turn theres much less pull and on the incoming (ebb) you dont lose ground as fast downwind - even if you can edge. To get upwind against the tide takes a lot of effort and you need to be super efficient on the board. Dont give it up after lessons though. For Langebaan get a 2nd hand 8m bow kite and a good size board (min 138x42) which (depending on the tide) you can use from 16-30 knots. You might destroy new equipment so it's best to start with something of lower value. If you shop around you should find a kite and board for 5-8k. Go speak to Antony at Cape Sport Center they have loads of 2nd hand equipment or else the Cabrinha shop in Big Bay is very helpful and well stocked. Will keep an eye out for you on the beach!
Thanks Andre, you seem like a kite guru :) I'm going back for another lesson just so I'm confident before attempting ANY ocean stuff, I'm not about that 'body dragging like shark bait in the water' life. After that, I'll do shopping around for some cheap 2nd hand gear - but I'll keep Sport Centre & Cabrinha in mind when I'm looking, thank for the heads up. I could buy 2 more surfboards for the price of one kite, haha!
As a non-surfer, I must insist that kiteboarding is the superior sport :-) As a surfer though, you might appreciate what the sport offers even more - once proficient. Statistically, only 20% of people who do a course go back for more and of those less than half move on to intermediate level. Nevertheless, we're in Langebaan most weekends during summer (I've trained my wife to be the perfect kite beach assistant) so feel free to drop a line if you need some local input. Happy kiteboarding!

I live close to a beach were people kiteboard everyday basically, and tbh it scares me. I don't know how they stay in control, I just imagine them flying off into the sea, it's crazy. Also, I swear ur accent gets me every time 😍

Thins comment is a bit late, but anyway... I went for two lessons and only started to get up on the board. I did not have my own equipment, and I knew if I did have my own equipment, I would keep on going and not just give up on the sport. I bought my equipment and started going on my own(which I would not recommend now that I know more) and got the hang of it! Still enjoy every minute I get on the water in CT during the summer.
Don't be fooled into thinking many people get up and ride on day 1, even after days, weeks, or some times months even! If you have the right conditions things can go a lot faster because everything is 'just right', like kite size, kite shape/style, board size, wind direction, wind speed, consistent ( non gusty wind), flat water vs waves. Also body drag with and without board, self rescues done in varying conditions, learning to launch and land safely. Great this woman can have a great first day, but for many if not most the journey will be very different. Don't get me wrong, fantastic for you if it pans out that way, but also don't give up because you think it's meant to be easier or you're not progressing fast enough. If your'e in a rush this is probably not the sport for you!
Definitely, coming from a surfing background, I thought I would pick it up a lot quicker but as with most sports, a lot of patience and persistence is required in order to progress. Langebaan is the ideal beginners spot though and hence one of the most popular spots in SA for both locals and internationals - so often a lot of the elements do come together there. Alan and his guys run one of the best kite schools in Langebaan. When your ready we can do a Shark Bay to Main beach down winder. I have kites you can use ;-) love an excuse to head to Langebaan
This was so fascinating to watch you learn something that you have never done before. To watch your progression and see the passion for it sparkle in your eyes when you talked about it at the end. I'm so intrigued in the concept of how we as humans learn things and to know that "standard" learning through education is only one tiny snippet of that idea/concept.

Wow. You managed so well and it looked super windy. How many lessons did you have? I like to take lessons but am afraid of fucking up the kite taming...great video.
The instructors are so good though, I had an earpiece as well so he was giving me instructions when I was in the water alone. I had 2 4-hour lessons :)
So stoked that you finally tried it!! Kiting is one of my favorite things to do! What I did was I made friends with the people I saw kiting, and they lent me their older gear to practice on before I went and bought anything. Definitely lessons are awesome but they can be expensive (although it looked like you made good use of them!), so I would try to make those kiting friends around where you live and you'll learn fast and cheap! Kiters are usually super eager to share the sport so I'm sure they wouldn't mind lending gear and some pointers in exchange for some nice pictures 😉 Good Luck!

Nice video. I think people should if they are physically able and have the funds, try different things. You don't have to become an expert or even do it again, but try it if you've been thinking about it. I've done indoor rock climbing, took golf lessons and I'm trying to learn to ride a motorcycle too. This summer I might try zip lining and take a kayak lesson ....and I cannot swim. :) I also need to continue my guitar learning thing. Life ....do what you will with it and enjoy.
Sounds awesome :) I would definitely learning to advise learning to swim though, haha. It's one of the best skills you can learn! Sounds like you're really embracing life though, keep at it!

"When you loose your board you have to body drag which is hard." I think normal body dragging is a lot easier than riding the board and you MUST learn bodydragging first for your own safety. Your experience shows why in a harmless way. Sorry for then fun killer, enjoy kiteboarding!!! 😊
Maybe Get a small trainer kite find a lot or bike path that runs a crossed the wind to use a long board a cheaper way to get used to kite and Board.. Yes Its expensive I miss it so much Years ago I started with a mountain board and foil kites then I got a 13m sling shot rev and a board I had No lessons and was catching on fast had basic Transitions down and was working on staying up wind.. the problem was I live in a inland Valley of CA, and was to broke to drive to the coast/beach enough to use my Gear there are some Lakes near my home but Kiting is not allowed so I ended selling all my Gear :( at least with the Money I was able to buy my GF a Mountain Bike so she could ride with me Glad I did she ended up loving the sport of Mountain biking more than I thought she would... as for Kite boarding it is a One Of a Kind sport the Funnest Thing Iv ever Done I Hope some day I can get back Into it...
Keep doing what you're doing Nicole! I'll have some lessons of my own this spring, to go to a 2 week trip to Tarifa in Spain to kitesurf this year (big kitesurf spot)! Looking forward to your next video.

Langebaan is great when the wind is up! I enjoyed lessons and a house with a pool a few years back. Kitelab was a great place for lessons!

It's still around :) We have tons of windsurfers in Cape Town.
