It's because of your canvas size, which is too small. make a new project with around 5000 pixels of width and height, do the filter again, then paste it into this project, and reduce the size.
Here's a possible solution to the rock texture to a black rectangle problem. I, too, had the problem of the rock texture changing to a black rectangle and could not get it to work. Luckily, I have access to multiple computers of various processing power. While I do have a fairly decent computer at home, where I was working on this, I have an even better computer at work that runs the exact same version of Photoshop. I took my file to work and the rock texture worked with absolutely no problems. So if you are having a problem generating the rock texture, it could be something as simple as the computer you are working on. That is probably why it is working for some people and not for others.

Best explained tutorials I have seen on youtube for these effects so far! you make it look super easy and detail it to be easy. I have only been using photoshop for a month and these videos have really helped. you're my lockdown saviour!
@@TombolON after you choose lighting effect , spot light will appear, choose infinity light in menu, then texture = Alpha1, you might not see change until u change height that is below that menu.

The lighting effect doesn't work because It works on the 3D base which is not supported in the newest versions of Photoshop

@@CaptainWulf You do that so it only affects the layer it is clipped to and not the rest that are below it.
this is super late but I've found that you do this by pressing alt/option and clicking between the layer you want to clip and the one below it.

Copy the values he has listed for Color Intensity, Colorize Exposure, Gloss, Metallic, Ambience, and most importantly Height to get the proper effect.

Finally, I see someone else using the CameraRAW Filter to do stuff that some peeps are using 50 layers. This guy knows his art.
