Great video. I remember many years ago when the conversation was “tube vs. solid state”. It helped us focus on our ears and feel. It’s interesting to realize that there is a generation that doesn’t know what an actual tube or solid state amp sounds like.

Missed this for gig practice. Where I didn’t play with an amp, just straight into the system haha. Looking forward to more of these streams.

I have 4 amp heads and 3 cabs. I hardly ever actually take any of them to gigs these days but I love them.

My main bass is made by Rio De Janeiro Luthier S. Martyn Bass Blaze RAS headless 6 string 30” scale 16.5mm spacing. I don’t gig anymore due to health issues however I still practice, study and compose. I’ve been obsessed with Skuli Sverrisson’s playing, John Patitucci, Evan Marien and Moto Fukushima. However I still have a P Bass, I still love these thing’s incredible simple and almost crude but the sound fits In absolutely any genre.

I've needed a bass amp head and cabinets on stage for some gigs, but I also like playing through a combo amp at home, or even direct late at night (so the wife can sleep lol).
I play with fingers and picks depending on what I'm playing and which bass I'm using. I also recommend having a good DI when necessary. As you said, everything is dependent on
    the specific situation.
My (usual) most versatile basses are Fender Precision and Jazz basses, but other basses are great to have as well, such as T-Birds, Stingrays, short scales, etc.

Great topic! enjoyed your thoughts. although I'm a drummer/studio owner, I've been buying bass rigs the past few years in an effort to inspire bass players. just picked up a HIWATT DR201 with a 4x10 & 1x15 cab and it sits next to my AMPEG SVT-810 incoming bass players always smile when they see them...seems to add an energy to the sessions.

    Hi,
I’m a beginner. Love the channel and the cool vibe and advice. Love the JML Mustang! I want one!!
I play a Sire P7 and love it. It inspires me to pick it up and practise. I totally understand why a seasoned player would say make your choice.
The reason I chose this guitar was the fit and finish at an affordable price point. And more inportantly a P pickup with a J neck that I find easier to play. I also like to blend a little J pickup brightness into the mix.
I love my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2 into a Barefaced super twin. Plenty of time and stacks of headroom.

I feel like the pj pickups have their own character. It's kind of between a jazz bass and a stingray. I also feel like committing to a bass is much easier when playing originals than playing covers where you're trying to faithfully recreate the sound of the bassist in the recording. If you can use the pickups of a jazz bass together or separately, why not do the same with a pj? I love the purity of a standard precision bass and the way it makes me play, but for some gigs I need some extra flavors. Those are my thoughts on it at least.
