    My first ever Watford game.. I was 7. 50 years as a fan next month and coincidentally we play Blackburn at Vicarage Road the next day.

    In the days when the top division was'nt the only games shown

    • @grahamd5418
      @grahamd5418 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was very rare for a third level game to be shown in those days. Today every game in every division is shown in some form.

      @@grahamd5418 no, the BBC & ITV were both contracted to show a certain amount from Divs 2, 3 & 4, only a handful with promotion battles. Now it's overkill with every match & when you eat too much it just puts you off, not that I watch today's efforts.

    Brian Moore's commentary,measured,no shouting,& nice to see a good chunk of a game.Can't sit through 'Match of the Day',too many 'experts'.

      Now you have about 10 minutes actual football highlights and 50 minutes of crap

    • @seltaeb9691
      @seltaeb9691 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No shouting! Brian was renowned for it especially in the late 60s early 70s, he would go bananas on any goal scored especially London teams. Come the 80s he calmed down a bit sadly.

      @@seltaeb9691 yes I suppose you're right,I think what I meant to say was he sounded natural,he had a naturalness about him, nowadays a lot of commentary sounds forced & over enthusiastic.It's strange how we often remember things differently,cheers

    Really enjoyed this as someone who is starved of in depth Rovers coverage down here in Australia. I thought that the light towards the end of the game was laughably bad. They could take knocks back then!

      48:44 Lol.....and the refereee has a few words before waiving play on. Today, that would be 12 red cards, a 8 year ban and a public execution of their first born.

    Rovers should have doubled their score, great win and great away support..........
    overall, seemed a low crowd, maybe Watford were struggling?

      It was mentioned Watford were 16th in the table at this time

      @@Keithbarber They suffered quite a few heavy defeats also at that time,,,which kept the fans away.

      @@lennylaa1686 out of interest Watford finished 19th that season on 41 points, with the old system of goal average keeping them out of the relegation zone
      Blackburn finished 3rd with 55 points

    We had a Joe Coral scoreboard at Elm Park. Local Combination Derby looks like a Valentine's night treat!

    Great days 🏐 But it just goes to show the standard of officiating was equally as poor back in those days too...how Watford got those 2 penalties in an era when most penalty-shouts were turned down.

  • @alankelly8562

    It seems to me that the goalkeepers were better then.

      Yes Pat Jennings is the best, but today's goalies have to save these huge ping pong balls that are so fast & bend in like the letter C. It's hard to say.
