  • Do you really know Romford Market? Did you know there used to be grass monkeys that children could hold? That the Queen visited and was presented with bed sheets? That there were even parrots you could pet? The Romford Recorder spoke to Tony Luscombe and Robert Benham about the history of Romford Market.

Ah, I remember it well! Born Romford 1937 moved from there in 1972 to live in Cornwall , where I have remained ever since! Do I miss it? Not really! I obviously have memories, but prefer living where I do now! Romford has got swallowed up by being too near London and has lost some of it's identity!

Only bureaucraticly, not geographically. You can't physically move a town or a county.

Many happy times , when Romford was in Essex and we lived in Collier Row . If the wind was in the right direction , you could smell the hops from the brewery . The Lodge Lane pig farm ....phew , say no more .

I lived on Morant Gardens 1985--2004. I remember the hog farm smell if it rained and the wind was right. I remember the smell of the brewery, one of my earliest memories.
