He is a knowledgeable person. He explained the current economic situation in an understandable manner. To be honest, I was a little disinterested in some guests who come primarily for self-promotion without providing useful stuff. We want more guests like him. We would love for part 2 with him when the time is right, whether it’s about the capital market, taxes, or the economic situation at that time.
This is the most comprehensive analysis I've heard sofar concerning the current monitory and fiscal policy that this country recently implemented. The only gripe I had is I would've like to listen his two cents on the Capital Market that Ethiopia is planning to introduce. Overall, you've done a good job in bringing us his expertise which I hope clears up many uncertainties for plenty of people out there. Thanks!
What part of the economy has improved to say this guy has done a good job. You're either clueless and easily manipulated by words rather than results. This people destroyed the economy he's just a puppet working for the elite not for the majority.
This discussion on Ethiopia's macroeconomic situation is the most engaging and impartial I've seen yet. One crucial aspect that hasn't received enough attention is how the political climate significantly hinders economic growth. A stable political environment is essential for economic progress. To attract foreign direct investment, a country must have a reliable legal system. Similarly, developing the tourism or manufacturing sectors requires a peaceful environment, often necessitating negotiations between the government and opposition groups. Ultimately, economic growth hinges on the government's commitment to democratization and establishing a system of checks and balances. Your guest is very knowledgeable and would benefit us if he had emphasized the detrimental impact of the current political system. We're still at a one man show government system. We want to see a more vibrant parliament that entertains a real debate! My two cents.
Outstanding analysis, Getachew Teklemariam! Your insights into the current economic situation are incredibly valuable and thought-provoking. I appreciate the depth of your research and the clarity with which you present complex topics. Thank you for sharing your expertise and helping us better understand these critical issues. Keep up the excellent work!
Explained so good that the government should simply publish the 1:20 podcast and distribute it to the public.both government and public can learn from this .
Only few people in the economic policy circle can explain the reform situation deeply, lucidly and without any bias or prejudice. The future of the economy is going to be extremely volatile in short term guided by the most inept leadership.
Very vivid and informative explanation of the current financial reform in Ethiopia. True both the government of Ethiopia and the financial sector have already used up their leverage to stay relevant for IMF/world bank/ or other lending institutions. This, as a result, I believe becomes the maker or breaker of the future of the country as a nation. Unfortunately, I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Interviewed this guy about 15 years ago for my school project while he was working at MoF. He knew what he was talking but was unpolite - probably he was not in a good mood.
The main point of this conversation lies at 31-32 mins. The government should have a continuous flow of foreign currency. Unless you have it, there is no way floating exchange will stabilize the country economy. The IMF loan currencies will dry soon and you'll go back to square one. 💯 Actually it will fold by many squares. 😄 This guy should lecture the puppet Ermias Amelga. He really explained every dimension of Ethiopia current economy reform measures.
@Hkim185 አቶ ደደቡ Unless you have a sufficient amount of money for your needs, you won't keep a penny. We don't have that money, and that is the reason we begged IMF to give us a droplet of tiny fund 😄 Ohh, you wana keep this money? Hang it on your living room wall and see how it multiplies. 😁 On a serious note, unless there is enough way to generate the foreign currency that satisfies the demand of the countr, it won't be a solution and it has a much worse effect that what we already seen. 😁 Our foreign currency demand much greater than our income/generate(dont include IMF begged loan,የልመና ብር ገቢ አይደለም,ለምን?ሁል ጊዜ አይገኝም) foreign currency. Less export and high import system. እንደምሳሌ፣ የመሰረታዊ ነገር ወጪህ ከደሞዝህ በላይ ነው።
Even if he is more inclined to Market fundamentalism , the way he tries to elaborate the possible economic and Market scenarios would have been accepted .He is one of the few prominent young economist in the Town . one thing what he didn’t mention boldly was , the weakness of the regulatory framework and capacity of the government is not good enough to accomplish this task, surly Ethiopia will be the failed state soon .
እጅግ ልቤን ያረካ ቃለመጠይቅ ነው ። simply thank you.
