    Could you even imagine a world if Elvis never existed ? He wasn't just an entertainer, he was a phenomenon

      Yes. Soon. I was just talking about this very subject with my partner the other day (considering incidentally). And my generation (58) although not born at the top of The Kings rise and height, seem to be the last ‘really’ n to him. Millennials and zoomers just do not seem to care (yes there exceptions but I mean in the general wholesale way). I think he will had faded for most within 20 years.

    What do we all have in common >>> Elvis fans and an appreciation of how this man could sing any type of songs and a great entertainer. No one has come close to this guy. I hope the New movie does him justice and opens up to a new audience of Elvis fans who then need to stat looking at his past movies and concerts to see just how good he was and what an influence he had on the entire world. He went from a skinny poor boy to a handsome mature man that most women wanted

    I was at Graceland the morning he died. I was a little girl and my dad was on a business trip to Memphis, so mom and I tagged along for the day. Mom was a huge fan and very time we went to Memphis, we had to stop at Graceland! That hot day, his cousin was working the gate and asked if we wanted to go up to the house…so of course, my mom said yes! We got into the back of his white truck and went up to the front door. He told us all kinds of things about the house and about Elvis. Two things stood out to my 8-year-old brain: the big, long car with shiny pipes out front and the fact that his cousin said Elvis sleeps until about 3 to 4 pm daily…I thought that sounded crazy for a grown person! We headed to some office building in midtown, mom and I heard the news from a secretary that he’d been taken to the hospital, then we were all glued to the radio. My mom and I sat in our car the rest of that afternoon listening to his music play on FM 100 and she cried.
    I now live in Memphis and everyone here has an Elvis story. I know a retired cop who was there and saw him dead on his bathroom floor. Poor Elvis needed people who weren’t yes men…rehab could have saved him. Different times.

    • @DFWJon
      @DFWJon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The thing is, those “yes men” were paid to be “yes men” and to NEVER tell him no. If Elvis wanted ANYTHING, you better bet that he had people in place that would, and/or could, get it for him, regardless of what it was!!! Lots of rich and famous people have other people around them that are willing to do any, and every, thing for them, including, but not limited to, getting stuff that isn’t good for them. Most of the time, their own bad habits, and choices, are the main reason for their untimely demise!!! It happens to the best of them. Case and point, Elvis Aaron Presley!!!

      I wouldn't say Chuck was "the greatest lyricist in history"
      1. After Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977, the African American newspaper, the Chicago Defender explained that: “When Elvis Presley breathed his last breath and the press hailed him as the ‘King of Rock,’ Ol’ Man River cried out, ‘Naw he ain’t! My friend Chuck Berry is the King of Rock. Presley was merely a Prince who profited from the royal talent of a sovereign ruler vested with tremendous creativity. Had Berry been white, he could have rightly taken [Presley’s] throne and worn his crown well.’”

I can’t tell you how English the rock mainstream was, even if we dullards didn’t know it. In our Camaros, ‘Hey, Eddie, listen to this!’ ALWAYS meant British.
